I love this series so much!

58565535._SY475_Fluke and the Faultline Fiasco by Sam Burns

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The third entry in this fabulous urban fantasy/paranormal romance sees Sage, Gideon, Fluke and the rest of the gang having to find out what’s happening with the convergence and dealing with a threat that could see Junction literally blown off the map.

Sam navigates through the complexities of the narrative with ease, one moment focusing on Sage’s growing confidence in his own arcane magic skills, at others giving quiet moments of family life with Iris.

There’s the same humour that has been present throughout, the steam level is understandably low as this focuses more on the paranormal/mystery and suspense elements of the storytelling than the romance.

Having said that, Sage and Gideon are as solid as ever, they have a few steamy moments which confirms that they’re still utterly committed to their relationship and each other and there is one particular scene which sees a very vulnerable Gideon that had me having all the feels!

Speaking of vulnerabilities, Freddy in this book almost broke my heart! He’s such a study in contrasts and here he really does prove himself in all ways up as a top bloke who is yearning to not only be useful but also to belong. I’m intrigued by where his story arc may go next!

I said in my review of book one The Fantastic Fluke that the series gives me a Scooby Doo mystery vibe and that remains strong in this particular instalment.

The bad guys were a surprise, not who I had been expecting at all, the suspense element works well, it’s an intriguing twist on what the other two books have used but still in the same we must destroy X Magic because ballpark.

More secrets about Great Uncle Jonathan are revealed and oh boy was he an absolute arse and, speaking of family, we get to find out a bit more about Gideon’s past and his connection with the local Dominus Anson.

Cannot wait for more!

The tension never slips in this second entry in The Fabulous Fluke series

56853067._SY475_Fluke and the Faithless Father by Sam Burns

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This second entry in Sam Burns’ urban fantasy paranormal romance is just as good as the first and it ramps up the tensions perfectly.

Sage is happily settling into life with his resurrected former ghostly boyfriend Gideon and his delightful foxy familiar Fluke when a new quaesitor comes to ask questions about the death of her colleague David.

As the reader knows, he was shot by Gideon after he tried to kill Sage for being an arcane mage and as he tries to avoid giving anything away, more shocking news comes to rock them to the core – his mother’s murderer has been released on parole.

With this complex and complicated plot, which I’m not going to touch on at all as I don’t wish to spoil anyone’s enjoyment of it unfolding, Sam gives the reader a run through a gamut of emotions!

There’s the awwwww of Sage and Gideon happily settling into domestic bliss, there’s anger at Sage’s utterly horrible father, whose ghost is still haunting the bookstore and being an absolute arse, and there’s trepidation as the dangers draw ever closer.

We also get to meet Sage’s intriguing, and somewhat roguish, cousin Freddy and it soon becomes clear he’s cut from an entirely different cloth than his snobbish and nasty father Roger, not that Gideon is impressed with his flirty nature 😁

As the threats build up from all side, Sage finds himself cut off from everything and at the hands of more of the dangerous Believers Cult, who think arcane magic is heresy and want to see it – and everyone practising it – eradicated.

Help comes from a surprising quarter and I am so desperate now to find out just what happened to make that come about and just what will happen next!

This series is rapidly shaping up to be one of my favourites in its genre and book three can’t come soon enough for me!

Blurb

Managing the bar at Joker’s Sin, a gay nightclub, is Max’s dream job. Where many seek fame or fortune, he’s living his best life, surrounded by family and friends. The only thing he doesn’t have is the guy to complete him.

Lane, AKA Sparkles, sees too much of the person he used to be when he looks at Max, and none of it is good. But the stubborn man won’t let up, and when Sparkles’s past threatens to unravel his whole life, it’s Max who steps in to save him.

Can these two opposites push past their differences to see just how right they are for each other? Will they get a chance before it all falls down around them? Or is their love one to die for?

While it is book two in the Joker’s Sin Series, it can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt

“Excuse me, can I have a strawberry martini?” I looked up from making a mojito and locked eyes with Sparkles himself. He generally went to other bartenders, but he knew if he asked me, I’d get his drink to him right away. He knew how much I wanted him, and I suspected he used that to his advantage.

“Sure thing, sweetheart. Let me get this one out, and I’ll get you yours.” I winked and was met with an eye roll.

After passing the mojito off to the customer, they handed me their number. I slipped the piece of paper into my back pocket and quickly went over to Sparkles. He stood, eyes wandering over the place while I made his drink. He wore an emerald-green shirt that shimmered when he moved. I couldn’t see his pants, but I had no doubt they matched. His fingers were painted black and he tapped them along the bar. His always hot-pink hair stood out like nothing else, and his face was done up to compliment it all. I had no idea how he did it, but he was a work of art.

“Here you go.”

He dropped a ten on the bar and said to keep it. “Hang on.” I couldn’t hear him huff when I stopped him, but I knew he did. “How is this outfit disco?” I gestured to his garb.

“This masterpiece is the epitome of disco. Look at these pants.” He lifted his leg so gracefully, it was as if he’d done it a million times. Large pieces of what I assumed were sequins were sewn onto the seams of the pants. They were some sort of fancy bell bottoms. “And this top? Are you even being serious right now?” He had a martini in one hand, the other on his hip. “I’m disco inferno up in this shit.”

Holding my hands up in surrender, I smiled and answered, “My apologies. I can clearly see you’re all about funky town.”
