BLURB

Leaving his enormous family behind, native New Yorker, Elijah, decides to move to Brighton Pier for a fresh start. Being part of a large LGBTQ community and landing his dream job at Inkubus, a local tattoo shop, is too big of a draw for him to turn down.

But just when he thinks his new life is going perfectly, he finds out his burgeoning relationship is nothing more than a friends-with-benefits arrangement to the man he was swiftly falling for. Suddenly, everything that felt so right to him feels all wrong, and he wonders if New York, with his family, is where he is meant to be after all.

Jake has worked hard for the life he’s made for himself in Brighton Pier. His life as a bachelor is pretty set in stone. Running his own business and spending time with his family and friends is enough for him, or so he’s convinced himself.

Though he’s met a man he cares for, he’s adamant about keeping his single life as is. He has his reasons for not wanting to commit to the beautiful man he’s irrevocably drawn to. He just hopes their friends-with-benefits arrangement will be enough to keep Eli in his life.

When tragedy strikes, and Jake’s world is turned upside down, his instincts lead him to lean on the one person who’s become someone special, despite his best efforts to try and push him away. Eli—unable to turn Jake away when a loss so great takes the strong man to his knees—steps selflessly into the void in Jake’s life, regardless of the toll it takes on him.

As both men struggle to deal with their own emotional turmoil, their lives veering off course, they grow inevitably closer as the days pass. But even so, they are still left wondering—can two people, drawn together by tragedy, turn a devastating situation into a fresh start? Or is it too late for a new beginning?

Excerpt

July flew by and August was reaching an end. But even after the talk he’d had with Jonah over two months ago, and the promises he’d made to himself that things were going to change, he was still letting this shit happen. Eli stretched his arm across the bed and patted the cool sheets. He had no clue what the point was when he already knew, without having to look, that he was alone. Still, when he finally pried his eyes open and saw the other side of the bed empty, disappointment cut through him like a knife.

He’d let it happen again.

And every time he woke up alone, he loathed himself a little more. What single, twenty-eight-year-old was sitting around, pining over one person? Fucking pathetic.

“Way to have some fucking willpower, asshole,” he grumbled as he swung his legs off the side of the bed and sat up. He stayed there for a minute with his head hung and eyes closed, taking a deep breath. The last thing he wanted to do was see Novak at the shop, but he had no choice. He had three clients lined up for the day that he couldn’t reschedule now. “Fuck,” he groaned as he stretched his arms above his head, feeling the ache in his muscles and resenting the reason they felt that way.

It didn’t take him long to shower, dress, and eat, but he took his time walking to the shop. His first client wasn’t until eleven, so there was no point in rushing. By the time he got there, someone was sitting in the waiting area, another guy was at the front counter filling out forms, and Kenz was walking someone back to her stall. Jake and Ryder were in the middle of a conversation, making plans to go out that night and get laid. Something inside Eli snapped because it was then that he realized…he was the last resort. All too often, Jake went out with Ryder, and then ended up at Eli’s door. I’m such a fucking idiot.

Jake’s eyes landed on him and they held each other’s stare for a minute. Eli’s muscles tensed, and he ground his teeth just to keep from exploding. Abruptly, he looked away, avoiding eye contact with anyone else as he walked down the hall to his station and began cleaning and setting up for his first appointment. A knock on the door frame had him looking up to meet a pair of chocolate brown eyes. He bit his tongue and looked back down without a word.

“Hey.” Jake shifted from foot to foot in the doorway, but Eli couldn’t find an ounce of fucks to give that the guy was uncomfortable. Jake took a couple steps inside the room, no doubt to avoid nosy eyes on him. “About last night—”

“Don’t.” Eli paused with the cellophane in his hand hovering over the armrest of the chair. He glanced up at Jake then back down and proceeded to wrap the arm in the plastic. “I already know what you’re gonna say. I don’t need to hear it again.”

“I’m not cut out for that shit, Eli. You know that.” The pleading in Jake’s deep voice was too much for Eli to handle.

“What I know is that we were headed for that shit, whether you’d like to admit it or not. I don’t know what the fuck happened.” He moved over to the other arm and wrapped it tightly. “Quite frankly, I no longer give a shit.”

Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…

Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.

Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.

Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away.

Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

Rare

Paramedic Pete Adams lived through the year from hell watching his lover, Ash, fall apart, and the precarious balance between work and home is becoming more strained. His heart is always home, with Ash, but the dark side to his job is weighing him down.

Roads Series Review round-up from Garrett Leigh

Slide (Roads, #1)Slide by Garrett Leigh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Righty! This was one of Garrett’s earliest books but, imho, you can’t tell. It’s intricately plotted and paced, it’s angsty, oh lordy is it angsty, but it never turns into too much depressing prose.

Ash has issues, rightly so given his life experiences, and he’s learnt how to just get on. But he’s not really living and Garrett does such a brilliant job with the narrative to show the reader – first by writing from Ash’s POV and then later by how Pete sees him – just how much he is struggling.

Pete, on the other hand, appears on the surface to be all put together, only the occasional bad job in his work as a paramedic making him less than his usual laid back and easy going self. I have to admit, I was surprised by Pete’s later reactions as the plot developed because I’d got so used to him being chill with his life.

The two of them together are gorgeous. The slow build up of trust is given time to develop before they become intimate, there’s no insta-love, insta-sex here.

Now, it’s no secret I am a huge Garrett Leigh fangirl and, for me, it’s because – no matter how bleak her character’s lives may become, or how much trauma they may have experienced in the past – she always shines a light of hope which resonates with me that everyone deserves to love and be loved no matter how dark their existence may have been.

I love her words, I love how she takes broken people and doesn’t make them whole again, no magic dick here, but gives them a support structure they can rely on to move forward.

This book is beautifully painful to read and I loved it. It isn’t a five star read for me simply because – at one point – I wanted to punch Pete so hard it took the edge off. But, then again, it’s realistic, life isn’t all sunshine and flowers and sometimes humans faulter!

Rare (Roads, #2)Rare by Garrett Leigh

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I need a breather after this one. Lordy but Garrett knows how to put her characters through the mill.

This book, it’s all about Pete and what he goes through, and it’s not easy reading but the narrative is perfection.

There’s a certain skill in writing about trauma, about tragedy, about mental trials and, for me anyway, Garrett Leigh does it with a finesse which is hard to beat. There’s no drama porn in her work, the tribulations the characters go through are firmly rooted in reality and the ways they deal with them mirror the same.

Throughout this book though, Ash, glorious Ash, is the shining light leading you through the story as he demonstrates what Pete has always known – that he is the strong one.

I loved every bit of this book and I can’t wait to now round off my Ash and Pete experience with Circle.

Liam

I was kicked out at sixteen for being transgender, but it turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. At twenty-one, I have a fantastic new family made up of my brother and a handful of wonderful friends, I own my own photography business, and I’m happier than I imagined possible. There’s just one thing missing… Okay, maybe two…

Wyatt

When I took the position volunteering as a therapist at Rainbow House, I knew I’d found my place in the world: helping teens who had been rejected by their families. What I didn’t expect was the friendship I formed with Liam or how it would grow over the years into a crush I just couldn’t shake.

I’m happy to see him finally opening himself up to dating with someone he trusts like Owen. But when he comes to me and asks if I can help his boyfriend, I feel like there’s more to the request than just a few therapy sessions. The more I get to know Owen, the more I like him, too.

Owen

I’m not sure why I believe so much in fate when she’s dealt me nothing but crappy hands—a stint in prison and enough childhood horrors to fuel all my adult nightmares. But I still hold on to the idea that everything happens for a reason. What I can’t figure out is why fate would plop me naked into Liam’s bed under the pretext of helping him with a photo series for a gallery showing.

Or why my stomach goes funny every time he smiles at me. Liam is too sweet to be exposed to my demons, but I don’t know how to protect him…Maybe that’s why fate gave us Wyatt.

***This is the seventh book in the Heathens Ink series. Each book in the series CAN be read as a stand-alone, but characters do re-occur so it’s more fun to read them all!

Holy fuck.

My eyes greedily memorize the way Owen’s soaked shirt clings to his muscles. The colorful skin of his arms glisten under the fluorescent lights of the coffee shop, and the scent of his sweat tickles my nose. I can’t say I’ve ever found anything particularly sexy about a sweaty man. Sex sweat is fine, but not something that revved my engine.

Consider me a convert, because it’s taking all my willpower to keep myself from flattening my body against Owen’s and drenching myself in his sweat, licking it off his neck, and rubbing against his slick body until sweat isn’t the only thing he’s drenched in.

Fuck, I’m such a bad person. His date with Liam was last night and here I am imagining humping him like an unneutered dog.

“Out for an early run?” I guess, looking down at his running shoes.

“Yeah,” he answers without any further elaboration.

I’ve known all the guys from Heathens Ink for years now but Owen is the only one I’ve hardly talked to, and I’m not sure why. Maybe because he’s always come off as more standoffish than the other guys? That doesn’t usually stop me with people, but I don’t have any other explanation. It feels like an oversight I should rectify. If Liam’s going to be dating him, I should get to know him better.

My stomach clenches, hot with jealousy knowing I was too late. Not that I was even too late, that I never had a shot with Liam to begin with. How can it hurt this much to know I can’t have him, when I only just realized I wanted him?

“How was your date with Liam?” I ask conversationally as the line inches slowly forward. Owen looks surprised by my question. “Liam and I are close,” I explain.

“Oh, yeah, I guess I should’ve realized. I’ve seen you two together a lot. It was great, Liam is…” Owen trails off, seeming to try to think of an adjective to describe Liam. I could help him out with that— Smart, funny, adorably shy at times, flirty and playful others, sexy, perfect.

“Yeah, he is,” I agree with his unfinished sentence, knowing he must be thinking the same things I am based on the smile tilting the corners of his lips.

flash me teaser 3

Excerpt

“Yes, yes, yes,” he squeals as he lands in my lap.

I catch him, just barely keeping the chair from tipping over with both of us in it. He throws his arms around my neck and squeezes me tightly. I catch Owen’s eye over Liam’s shoulder and find him smiling nearly as big.

Liam pulls back from the hug and looks into my eyes. His smile is shyer now, and when his pink tongue darts out to lick his lips, my dick thickens against my thigh. My heart rate kicks into a gallop, and I tighten my grip on his hips.

“Can I kiss you?” he asks, his voice so sweet I’m sure I would agree to anything he could ever think to ask. I look over his shoulder at Owen again who nods encouragingly.

“Yes,” I agree.

I expect Liam to lean in slowly, maybe continue with the theme of shy and sweet. But my permission seems to flip a switch. He takes off my glasses and takes my face between his hands, pressing his lips hard against mine. I can taste the overly sweet wine on his lips as he teases and coaxes me to part my lips.

My entire body lights up as Liam’s hot tongue slips into the depths of my mouth, eagerly licking me, tasting me. I wrap my arms tight around his slim waist and press his body harder against mine, desperate to feel all of him.

I catch his whimpers in my mouth and swallow them, kissing him deeper, running my tongue along his and tempting him to give me more. I want everything Liam has to offer and then some. I want to know every inch of his body inside and out, and I want him to know mine.

My throbbing erection grinds against the firmness in the front of Liam’s jeans and sends a jolt of heat from head to toe. I want to lay him down right here on the patio and rut against him until we’re both breathless and sweaty. I want so much I’m sure I’ll go mad from it.

It’s only Owen’s quiet words that drag me back to reality. “Fuck, that’s hot.”

Fear and sadness mark Bryan’s life, can Gatlin show him that you have to trust before you can love?

Gatlin Pearce is creeping up on thirty-eight and is still single. It’s not that he wants to be alone, it’s just that he’s too damn old to be in clubs filled with glittery gay boys who can’t even tell him who the Rolling Stones are.

Better to just spend his evenings at Hard Score Ink – his tattoo and artwork shop – creating masterpieces on human flesh, listening to the Railers games, and nursing a cold beer.

His solitary life is about to end when Bryan Delaney, the new Railers backup goalie, shows up at his shop looking for new artwork for his helmet. There’s some sort of sad story in those beautiful eyes of Bryan’s, and Gatlin finds himself more than a little infatuated with the tender new goalie.

Bryan Delaney leaves home at fifteen to live with a billet family. He just wishes that he could have escaped his alcoholic father and strictly devout mother earlier. Drafted to the Arizona Raptors he finds a new family, and his first love affair even if that relationship is marked with violence.

Being traded to the Railers is a shock to the system but the team isn’t like any other he’s ever played on and they truly seem to care about him. It’s only when he meets artist Gatlin, with their shared love of music and hockey, that he realizes how hard it is to escape the past.
