An interesting blend of tropes makes this romance a hit

KickflipKickflip by Christina Lee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One of the few Christina Lee books I’ve not read, Kickflip is an interesting blend of new adult, Motorcycle Club and love after trauma.

I enjoyed pretty much all of it, it never got overly angsty, the stresses and traumas felt real and believable and I loved the UST which built up slowly between Cory and Jude.

The big dramatic moment fit the Motorcycle Club narrative and I didn’t find it beyond the realms of possibility.

Loved the secondary characters and the setting and I’m planning on heading into the rest of the series after I’m done with my ARC commitments.

Another Sam Burns world I’m completely in love with

47637443._SY475_Wolf Lost by Sam Burns

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s official, there isn’t a story Sam Burns can write that I won’t fall in love with.

I love it when someone can give me a different take on shifters and with Wolf Lost, I got just that.

When Sawyer escapes from his pack, the last thing he’s expecting to find is a potential bond mate and a new place to call home but when he and disabled army veteran Dez meet, that’s just what happens.

There wasn’t a bit I didn’t like about this new world that Sam’s built for her shifters. Wolf society is old fashioned, staid and secret. Wolves aren’t known in the wider world, they can be born or bitten, and there’s never been a pack with three alphas in it that Sawyer is aware of.

Dez and Sawyer are a great pair. They match each other’s temperament perfectly but don’t have that instant bond mates thing which can sometimes be an excuse for a relationship in some shifter worlds. They still take time to get comfortable with each other, they still snap and fight and have doubts, but ultimately they’re there when it matters the most.

I also really liked that Dez isn’t some uber perfect specimen, he has a damaged leg and problems with his right hand, he uses a cane and he can’t always be as physical as he’s used to being as an ex-Green Beret sniper.

Each of these alpha wolves has something which makes them different from the norm and I can’t wait to find out more about Asher and Gavin in their books. The scene with Ash teaching his two bitten best mates about wolf shifter sexual behaviour had me snort laughing.

I picked this book up this morning and read it in one go, I couldn’t put it down because I had to see how the threat to Sawyer from his old pack alpha was going to be addressed (brilliantly, if somewhat unexpected as it turns out!) and how the growing connection with Dez would pan out (also brilliantly as it happens 😁 )

A fair bit of humour, one growly alpha, one fairly chilled alpha and one alpha who obviously has a secret he’s not willing to let out yet, make the Kismet wolf pack a huge success for me.

I also really liked the pack dynamics of another set of shifters which we get introduced to in this book who are local to the new Kismet foursome and I’m hoping we find out more about the Shane wolves too.

When the world labels a man and judges them blindly, is it possible to ever find love?

Firefighter Eric is on the front line, battling the threat of nature’s destruction in the California grasslands alongside his CalFire team. Focused and calm, even in the direst of situations, he has a strong affection for his fire truck, loves his career, and has best friends he can rely on. All he needs now is love, but that seems to be impossible to find.

At his friend’s wedding, Eric falls in lust at first sight with the shy, slim and sexy Brady, even if Brady isn’t the type of guy he usually goes for. What Eric longs for is an equal in his bed, not a smaller guy who might want Eric to role-play big strong firefighter every time they have sex. He wants to find someone he can be vulnerable with, someone who will love him for his soft heart and quiet ways.

Brady’s life plans grind to a halt when his niece and nephew lose their parents in a tragic accident, and he becomes a dad overnight. His Developmental Coordination Disorder rules his life, but he fights both DCD and the fears that chase him every day, to give Maddie and Lucas a home. Agreeing to go to a friend’s wedding is a decision he regrets long before he even gets there.

But, he refuses to give in to his fear, even if he might do something that makes him a target for people’s comments and laughter. Meeting Eric, a huge man with a gentle voice and a flair for chivalry, he falls hard. Now, if only he can let himself get past his panic that Eric would never want someone like him, then maybe he could fall in love for real.

A tale well told with loads of feels

the good green earth ebookThe Good Green Earth by V.L. Locey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Each time I open a book from Vicki Locey I know I’m going to get a tale told well with depth and loads of feels, usually with a side order of ice hockey.

This one did all that but it also did more.

For one, it made me hate a character with the fire of a burning sun and all with just a few throwaway lines and a bit of explanation.

But by all that’s holy, I wanted to do painful damage to Nate’s brother Chris.

Secondly, it gave me a complex and emotionally scared young man who I wanted to cover in bubble wrap and save from all the hurt he’d had to deal with in such a short lifetime.

Thirdly it gave me a perfect person to make that safe place for Nate. Bran had his own issues and traumas to deal with, but his older pain has been processed, giving him the experience to know how to support his younger lover.

Fourthly, it examines the damaging culture of alcohol which has been tied up in sport for so long. It looks at how drinking is almost a daily routine if you’re a sports star and how getting utterly hammered isn’t frowned on until something goes wrong.

The slow development of Nate and Bran’s relationship is supported by a bunch of ornery seniors, one awesomely supportive agent, a bunch of other interesting side characters and two entitled seagulls who bring light relief to what could have been an overly angsty narrative.

Release Blitz: Top Priority by Cara Dee

The Game Series #1

Top Priority ebook cover.jpg

Add To Goodreads:

In a perfect world, Lucas West would meet someone in one of the BDSM communities he was active in, someone who ached for a Daddy Dom as much as Lucas longed for a Little to care for. They would date, play, build something that was just for them, and share a future together.

In a perfect world, Colt Carter would get through his next deployment and then move closer to DC where he could create at least a semblance of a personal life. He wanted something outside of the Air Force, something kinky, something worth leaving everything behind for eventually. For years, he’d kept his inner Sadist and Daddy Dom locked up, only letting him out to play on rare occasions.

In a perfect world…

In reality, Lucas and Colt met each other.

Top Priority is the first novella in The Game Series, a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, two things are certain. This is not a perfect world, and life never turns out the way you planned.

Top Priority Teaser 1.jpg

“It’s a funny coincidence,” I said, picking up a rib. “We have a lot in common all while…”

“We’re entirely different?” he chuckled.

I smiled and dipped my chin.

Two Daddy Doms, two gay Daddy Doms, at a hole-in-the-wall bar in Richmond in the middle of a storm—what were the odds?

I wasn’t supposed to be so drawn to him. It would never work.

We learned some minor tidbits about each other while we ate. He was thirty-six and happy his folks had moved to Virginia. His rank in the Air Force was Captain, though his buddies called him Top, which apparently was painted on the side of his headgear when he flew.

“Do I want to know the meaning?” I wondered.

His smirk made a reappearance. “I always end up on top.”

I snorted and wiped my mouth with my napkin.

“I’m a brand, baby.” Goddamn, he was too much. “It’s become a thing during training. Puns comin’ outta every orifice—‘get on Top,’ if they’re chasin’ me, ‘look at him topping from the bottom.’ Chuckles all ‘round.” He paused. “Sometimes you gotta dive and fly low to confuse the bandit’s radar. That’s topping from the bottom. Well, among other things.”

I was familiar with among other things.

As overbearing as he was, I couldn’t help but want to get to know more about him. I wanted to see him fly. It had to be a heady experience.

If I were half as animated and passionate about my job, I’d be lucky.

“Another thing we have in common,” I said. “I top from the bottom outside of kink too.” Or within kink, if I dated a submissive boy who enjoyed topping as well. I was still exploring, to be honest. I’d only discovered BDSM three years ago.

Colt raised his brows. “Oh, really. That’s…innerestin’.”

Was it?

Was it? This was just dinner. It wasn’t going to turn into a one-night-stand. I’d left those behind. I was fairly certain.

Christ, why did I go there? This one was on me, to boot. I’d brought it up.

To hell with it. I had no issues being blunt. “We’re not sleeping together,” I told him.

He smiled. “‘Course not.”

About The Author

I’m often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

A lovely bite-sized addition to the Confessions series

Confessions HENRI AMAZONHenri by Ella Frank

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am fascinated by Henri and hope we get even more insight into what makes him tick when Ella releases the companion book to this one Bailey in October.

This one is a curious mix of smoking hot scenes and lots of I shouldn’t do this angsting on the parts of both Henri and his cop (and I’d like a quid please for the number of times those two words appeared together in a sentence 😉 ) but it never became too much.

There’s some background to Henri and Priest’s early life when they were both trying to stay out of the way of their vicious fathers, there’s a fair bit of growly Priest too when he realises his ex is now involved with Bailey and there’s a guest appearance from Logan which I appreciated.

The main secondary plot concerns Henri trying to get on the straight and narrow and I’m very much on tenterhooks for seeing what’s going to happen when those two parts of his life crash as I’m sure is on the cards.

All in all, though short, this is a nice little appetiser to the rest of the Confessions series.

Heel Final.jpg

“I’ve never thought of calling a man Daddy before, but I can’t think of a word that fits Vale better. He’s my Daddy, and I’m his pup.”

Broken and bruised, there’s nothing I won’t do to protect Adrian. I picked him up and made him whole before, and I’ll do it again. Adrian is a sweet pup with a smile full of sunshine and a heart made for love. A sweet pup needs a gentle hand, and that’s exactly what I intend to give him.

There’s nothing quite like slipping an expensive pair of high heels onto Adrian’s feet and watching him light up. If he wants a fairytale, I’ll happily be his Prince Charming.

*Author’s Note: Heel is the second book in the Working Out the Kinks series but can be read as a stand-alone. This book contains a scene of domestic violence.

This book also contains an adorable man who loves to be a puppy, fabulous high heels, and the happily ever after Adrian deserves.

Heel teaser 2.jpg

“Be still, Sunshine,” Vale says commandingly, giving my body no choice but to obey, going limp in his arms. “You’re the most tempting, insanity-inducing man I’ve ever met,” he accuses affectionately, my mind short-circuiting when his lips brush against the base of my neck.

“Please,” I whimper again.

“Shh,” he soothes. “I want you to listen, because this is what we’re going to do.”

The calm domination in his tone settles the place deep inside me that craves direction and structure, to be taken care of by someone who knows better than I do.

“Yes,” I say breathlessly.

“Good boy. Now, first you’re going to give me your fingers to lick clean because I don’t think I can go another minute without a taste.” I groan in agreement, and he brushes another kiss against the back of my neck. “Then, we’re going to get out of bed, and I’m going to make breakfast. We’re going to talk about that kiss and where we go from here.”

Part of me wants to argue that talking is overrated, that I’d much rather have him bury himself inside me, and we can figure things out sweaty and screaming instead of talking over coffee. But the other part of me, the part that went all mushy and calm at the use of his Dom voice, is ready to give Vale anything he asks for if he’ll just tell me I’m his.

“Yes,” I answer, and he groans his approval, his cock jerking against my ass, clearly excited by my easy submission. I’ll say yes to anything to hear him make that sound again.

With great effort, I manage to let go of my cock. Vale’s grasp is still around my wrist, guiding my hand, making sure to slick my fingers with more precum before pulling it out of my underwear and to his mouth. I moan as his hot lips engulf my fingers, sucking them in and holding them in place as his tongue flicks over the tips, seeking out every drop of my arousal.

He grunts as he sucks my fingers clean, my eyes rolling back in my head as I imagine exactly how the same treatment would feel farther south.

“God, you taste even better than I imagined,” he praises in a raspy voice when he finally releases my fingers.

“You imagined what I’d taste like?”

“You have no idea, Sunshine.”

About The Author

KM Neuhold Logo__.jpg

K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together.

She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series.

When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
