Excerpt
He was very into healthy food, but I understood why. I reached across the table and offered him my hand. He held it, and we spent a few minutes simply looking at each other. It was like we didn’t need a bunch of words to fill the space between us. Which was unusual and refreshing. Mostly because I was a words guy. I liked to define things, and if not label, then at least describe them. While Ryker was almost always overflowing with effervescence. He normally couldn’t keep his mouth shut from what I’d seen. But there he was—quiet. Simply taking it all in.
He rubbed his thumb over my knuckles. “What are we doing, Jason?”
“Having lunch.”
Ryker rolled his eyes. “I mean, you know. I’m not here because of the kid or because I know you’re in mourning, though I do feel for you.” He leaned in closer and lowered his voice. “My goddamned heart breaks for you.” Then he straightened up. “But I was into you before everything happened. I want you to remember that and, well, maybe know that I feel like this could be something more than a hot time. Maybe. If you want.”

Lynn Michaels lives and writes in Tampa, Florida where the sun is hot and the Sangria is cold. When she’s not writing she’s kayaking, hanging with her husband, or reading by the pool.
