Blurb

Arthur Fitch clawed his way out of the violence and poverty of the slums of London to become a valet to the aristocracy. His ambition to secure a higher position led him to a disastrous appointment with a cold, brutal man, and when things come to a head, Arthur is forced to flee into a snowstorm to find safety.

Joseph Wilkinson is the Winsford Green blacksmith. He has a good life, good friends, owns a thriving business, but at the end of the day when he goes home, loneliness consumes him. When he stumbles upon a small man determinedly trudging through the snowstorm, he invites him into his home to shelter.

Arthur Fitch is older, smart-mouthed, and as prickly as hell. But, as Joe peels back the layers, he discovers a warm, funny, vulnerable man whose tastes in the bedchamber leave Joe gasping and desperate for more.

Trouble is, having found the real Arthur Fitch, how can he convince him that life in a small town can be infinitely better than working for an Earl? That love really is possible for people like them? Particularly when Arthur’s past catches up with him in horrifying fashion.

Arthur Fitch drifted into awareness slowly. He was warm. Deliciously warm. He rubbed his face against the pillow, sighed, and the warm body behind him shifted with him. He smiled and hummed happily as he eased his way up through the layers of sleep. When he moved, he groaned. Every part of him seemed to ache. Including his head. He stretched out his legs and the body behind him moved again.

Arthur froze. Body? Body behind him? Body in bed with him…?

His eyes shot open, blinking rapidly. Where in God’s name was he? It was a completely unfamiliar room, unfamiliar bed, and … and … he swallowed and turned his head to the side. A completely unfamiliar man. Who, at that moment, opened outrageously blue eyes and looked at him.

Arthur let out a wild yell and leaped from the bed.

“Who the hell are you?” he demanded as he stumbled to his feet. His legs were like water. He grabbed his swimming head with one hand and clutched at the bed post with another as he almost overbalanced.

His blue-eyed bed companion sat up. Dear… sweet …. God. He was magnificent. Huge, muscled shoulders. Pronounced collar bones peeping through the open neck of his night shirt. Shaggy hair the colour of autumn, and an untamed beard.

And he was young.

The man threw back the covers and stood on the opposite side of the bed. “Don’t you remember?” His voice was deep, husky rumble.

“Remember what?” His own voice had become a shriek. “What did you do to me?”

The man took a step back, wariness edging into his blue gaze. Christ, they were so blue.

“I didn’t do anything. I rescued you from the snow.”

Arthur looked around with his mouth open. He was used to being surrounded by the finest things money could buy. Working with the most respected and envied men of the upper ten thousand. Why the hell was he in some poky, rustic, shabby … Did that man have an erection? He stared at the man’s groin. There was definitely some stirring visible. He looked at him and raised a quelling brow. The man flushed, put a hand over himself, and glared at him. Dark brows pulling down.

“You walked from the Abbey in the snow. I brought you in and warmed you up. That’s all. Don’t flatter yourself.”

“My good man, I …” Arthur began, at his most haughty, then hesitated. Memories crowded in. Snow. Cold. More snow and so cold he thought he might die. He held onto his head as it all came flooding back. The giant had indeed saved him from the snow and probably saved his life.

He cleared his throat.

On Christmas Eve, Dylan, the man of James Pell-Charnley’s dreams, is on the point of walking out. Then they hear the faint strains of a waltz in the library of the empty abbey. The music is said to be heard only by those truly in love, and it gives James the courage to tell Dylan the story.

In December 1841, Lord Hugo Pell-Charnley is in a terrible mess. The youngest son of the late Marquis, youngest brother of the incumbent, never felt to fit. When his life comes crashing down, and his life and his family are threatened, he is forced to face his elder brother and confess his deepest secret. When he arrives at Winsford Abbey he finds he must also confront the shame from his past in the form of Lyndon Cross. The boy he’d loved but betrayed in school.

As they clear the ghosts from the past, they dance in each other’s arms in the library to the soft strains of the waltz, but long buried secrets threaten to destroy their happiness.
Two hundred years later, can those dances long forgotten give James and Dylan the courage to hold on to love?

My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here.

The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head…he probably has a point!

Cowboys don’t cry.

West of the Pecos, if a man shows a vulnerable side, his last glimpse of this life might be at the end of a barrel.

Cowboy and drifter, Myron Poste shrouds his life in mystery, carefully following a strict code to stay alive. Fellow ranch hand Cade Buchanan is big, hairy, and strong—not the sort of man to trifle with.

One fateful night while driving a herd of Longhorns north to Santa Fe, Cade confronts Myron. With the swiftness of a West Texas wind, desire seizes control and a passionate affair begins. Pride has always held Myron back, but he can no longer deny his submissive nature when Cade gives him just what he craves—pure, lustful dominance.

When the drive ends, they must part ways. Will the memories of their untamed passion under the big Texas sky be powerful enough to reunite them?

Excerpt

“Is this what you really want?” Myron asked.

“Yes,” Cade insisted. “I want you to come live with me, build a home and a life with me. We could have a chance there, like you said. No one will bother us if we’re careful.”

“You can’t know that.” Myron wanted to give in to this dream, but there were realities, and things he needed written in stone before he let his mind accept this, though he feared his heart already had. “What if someone finds out?”

“Then we head to north or father west if we have to. We’ll protect each other.”

The determination in Cade’s tone gave him pause. “You won’t cut and run on me?”

“I don’t think so,” Cade said honestly. “At least, I don’t wanna. But we can’t predict the future. You might cut and run on me.”

Myron grabbed his hand. “Never. I might’ve been planning to get an itch scratched, but I wasn’t going to give away a kiss.”

“You wasn’t?”

“No.” He glanced around before whispering, “Those are all yours.”

Cade’s gaze locked on Myron’s lips, his breathing as heavy as Myron’s groin. He stepped closer, and Myron clung to his squeezing hand. “All mine.”

Myron trembled from the intensity in his expression. “I want to believe you, but this is dangerous for my heart. After everything…”

“I won’t hurt you.”

Myron let out a weary sigh. “You already have and now… well?” He studied his boots, not releasing his hand, but disliking how torn up he felt inside. Laying his heart open was much harder than giving away his body. “You’ve made a habit of changing your mind on me. I can’t go through that again, not after you’ve promised me a dream. If you mean this, that you want to build a life with me, then you can’t go back on your word, Buchanan. I can’t go through this heartache again.”

Cade cupped his cheek, and Myron knew he would never tire of such tender touches. “I can’t deny I still got doubts and worries in my head. All I can do is promise to work on quieting them every day. ’Cause even though I’m afraid of what could happen, I want you in my life, Myron. I don’t ever wanna lose you again. My heart’s been achin’ too.”

Myron closed his eyes and melted into the moment, Cade’s touch the only thing keeping him upright. Before—when he doubted men could ever share more than lust—he’d told himself men loving each other had to be fiction. A fanciful notion. Now he realized he’d convinced himself of that because he never thought he’d get to savor the devotion and love of another man.

Yet now, against all odds, Cade wanted him, wanted to build a life together.

Cade stroked Myron’s freshly shaven face with his thumb until Myron opened his eyes. He was so close his eyes crossed a little looking at him. Cade offered an encouraging smile, caressing his jaw. “Maybe we should go up to the loft. Someone could come by.”

Myron nodded, the risk of discovery more powerful than his need to have all Cade’s intentions laid bare just then. “Yes, let’s.”

They extinguished the lantern, and then gathered his bedroll and climbed the ladder to the hayloft. He wondered if and hoped Cade was looking at his ass as he climbed up in front of him. When they reached the top, Cade smartly pulled the ladder up with them.

You’re a fool, Poste. He’s saying everything you want to hear, but he’ll run tomorrow.

In the secluded, straw-littered loft, the moonlight snuck in from a tiny window and illuminated Cade’s face. His gaze was open, honest like it had been on the riverbank when he’d gazed deep into Myron’s soul as he laid claim and mastery over his body.

Still unable to believe Cade had completely changed his mind, he licked and rolled his lips. His heart and body were ready to bet everything on this gamble, but his mind had to check his hand.

“Cade?” He hesitated, wringing his hands and looking over their surroundings. A few bales of hay created a nook where they could lay and indulge, but before he accepted this wild unbelievable plan, he had something he needed to say.

How can I say this?

Cade offered a smile. “If you have something you need to get off your chest, I’ll listen.”

He took a deep breath. Best to start at the beginning. “That night by the fire, made me realize how much I like… certain things. Actually, how much I might, um… need them.”

He cocked his head to the side. “What do you mean, Poste?”

The use of his surname brought a level of seriousness into the conversation, and the ardor cooled. Myron’s heart pounded. “This isn’t easy to say,” he began, slipping his hat off and rubbing the back of his neck. “But it’s mighty important, I think.”

“Since when do you have trouble telling me exactly what you want?” He stepped closer and cupped Myron’s face with both hands, the touch so tender. “You were very specific on that night.”

He closed his eyes and savored the feel of Cade’s calloused thumbs brushing across his cheek bones. He’d never been so plain and open with a man as he’d been with Cade, but he’d yet to clarify his deepest desires, exposing his truest self.

“I like you without a beard,” Cade said. Then he trailed a finger down the bridge of his nose. “So much.”

Myron trembled, remembering how much Cade liked his freckles too. “I like you with and without.” He placed his hands on Cade’s strong arms, willing some of that strength to imbibe him with courage. He trembled and his cock stirred as he soaked up Cade’s nearness. Myron’s mouth parted for a kiss….

Stay focused! He took a deep, steadying breath.

“Tell me what it is you want, Myron. I promise to give it to you, if I can.”

“Sometimes I feel like I need a firm hand,” he finally whispered, eyes still closed and face down, the confession easier without being under the scrutiny of those piercing blue eyes.

“A firm hand? What do you mean?”

“I think you know.” Myron kneaded his arms, and risked a glance up. “Least I hope you do. And, I think, that you like to take a firm hand.”

Cade’s eyes widened, seeming bigger and brighter without the beard.

Myron bravely forged ahead. “What we’ve done so far… well? It’s been wonderful, and I liked it… very much. But sometimes I dream about being held down and… um… taken rough.” As he whispered the last word, his face flamed.

“You do,” Cade stated rather than asked.

“A-and… the way you struck me. I needed that too.”

Cade cocked his head to the side. “You needed it?”

“Yes, and I don’t rightly understand why myself,” he admitted, grateful for the dark. “But I do remember when I first discovered I might want… something like that.”

“Tell me?”

He mustered his courage and looked up, adoring how he had to crane his neck when they stood this close. “When I was young, I saw a boy punished once, spanked on his bare ass. He was so humiliated, but it roused my blood. That may have been when it all started,” he said hesitantly, and the openness in Cade’s expression urged him to press on. “Then just after the war, I saw a whore being spanked on a stage. At first, I was afraid for her.”

He shifted his hands to Cade’s chest, kneading lightly. “The man doing it was very big, and she was so helpless. She was bound so she couldn’t get away. Everyone was cheering, but she was crying. Our eyes met across the crowd, a-and she smiled at me. I suddenly realized she wanted to be treated that way.” He closed his eyes, seeing it all again, blood pounding. “Then this queer notion came over me that I wanted to be her, I wanted that man to put me over his lap and spank me, but harder. Maybe tie me down then fuck me…” His voice choked off and it surprised him when Cade’s chapped lips claimed his.

Cade drew back from the kiss, stroking his cheeks, down his neck to massage his shoulders. A great weight of shame lifted off Myron at the gentle touch, but not so much as when Cade whispered, “I understand. I do. Because I wanna be that man, just as much as you wanna be that whore.”

Excerpt

“Hmm. How do you begin?” I asked.

“Like I said, this is the lead-in scene. I’ll probably set it in front of the fireplace. Those windows provide great natural light, and if it’s cloudy tomorrow that’s even better.”

“Are they going to sit or stand?”

James jumped up abruptly and moved behind me with his hands spread like he was framing a scene. “Stand, definitely. I’ll want the chairs out of the way.”

I set my wineglass down then pushed the chairs and the small table aside for him. “How’s that?”

“Good. That should work. Would you mind being a stand-in for a second?” He motioned for me to step toward the fireplace. “Move to your right. A little more. That’s perfect. Damien is muscular like you. He’ll probably wear jeans and a T-shirt.”

“I can take my sweater off,” I suggested.

“That’s not necessary. I can—”

I slipped the garment over my head and tossed it over the back of the chair. “Does this help?”

James licked his lips and stared at my chest for a long moment without speaking. “Um…yes. Could you put your hand on the mantel?”

I struck a casual pose. “Like this?”

He closed the space between us and gently adjusted my elbow. “Yes.”

“Where will Mark be?” I asked softly.

His Adam’s apple slid theatrically in his throat as he inched closer. “Here.”

The scene was set. Two long-term lovers had agreed to something they hoped would strengthen their bond. They’d introduced a new set of rules with a twist.

I didn’t give a fuck about Damien and Mark, but James fascinated me. His quirky intensity appealed to me on a level I didn’t really understand. Or maybe it was the implied element of danger. A sexy stranger didn’t turn up on my doorstep in a storm every day. This felt bigger than us somehow. Like an opportunity we were supposed to take. And the hungry look in his eyes and the furtive glance at my crotch made it clear he felt this too.

“Then what happens?”

He cleared his throat before studying the page again. “I’ll take a few pics to show Damien, um…taking control.”

“How do you show that without words?”

“It’s in the look. I might ask Damien to raise his hand, like he’s beckoning Mark closer.”

“Like this?” I hooked my finger, pleased when James closed the distance until we stood toe to toe.

“Yes. I’ll probably take a few photos of him unbuttoning Mark’s shirt and…”

“Like this?” I held his gaze as I undid the first few buttons on his oxford shirt.

Okay, I’d officially crossed a line. This was where he’d tell me to fuck off and back the hell up. I didn’t think he would, though. He was wound so tight with need, he practically vibrated. The urge to pull him against me and stick my tongue down his throat was strong. But he had to give me the reins. I held my breath and waited for him to decide what came next.

James nodded. “Y-yes. But then he stops.”

I stopped. I raised my hands, noting his unsteady breath when he opened his mouth and closed it…twice.

“Good call. If it were me, I’d tell him to undress himself. Slowly,” I said in a huskier than normal voice.

“You would?”

“Yeah. It’s a balance of power. It’s given freely…with trust. He wants to please his lover and himself at the same time. Am I right?”

He licked his lips. “Yes. That’s it. He’ll tell him to take his clothes off. One piece at a time. He’ll demand it.”

I pulled the script from his hands, fixing him with a no-nonsense look before inclining my head meaningfully. “Unbutton your shirt, James.”

“Me? What are you—what are we doing?”

“What do you want to do?” I countered. “Be honest.”

“I…I…uh.”

“Okay. I’ll go first.” I dropped the script on the side table, then brushed my thumb over his stubbled chin. “I want you.”

“But you don’t know me.”

I flashed a pirate’s smile. “You’re right. That doesn’t change anything.”
