Blurb

A pregnant omega trapped in a desperate situation, an unattached alpha with a lot to prove, and an unexpected fall into love that could save them both.

Kerry Monkburn is contracted to a violent alpha in prison for brutal crimes. Now pregnant with the alpha’s child, he lives high in the mountains, far above the city that once lured him in with promises of a better life. Enduring bitterness and fear, Kerry flirts with putting an end to his life of darkness, but fate intervenes.

Janus Heelies has made mistakes in the past. In an effort to redeem himself, integrity has become the watchword for his future. Training as a nurse under the only doctor willing to take him on, Janus is resolute in his intentions: he will live cleanly in the mountains and avoid all inappropriate affairs. But he doesn’t anticipate the pull that Kerry exercises on his heart and mind.

As the question of Kerry’s future health and safety comes to an explosive head, only the intervention of fate will see these desperate men through to a happy ending.

This gay romance novel by Leta Blake is the third in the Heat of Love universe which began with Slow Heat. It’s 111,000 words, with a strong happy ending and a critically-acclaimed, non-shifter Omegaverse. It features alphas, betas, omegas, male pregnancy, mpreg, heat, and knotting. Content warning for a violent and oppressive society regarding reproductive rights.

An extraordinary twist to the shifter genre from Garrett

67283455_2401506443270930_1027755549032185856_oFated Hearts by Garrett Leigh

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Garrett Leigh turns her considerable talent to paranormal romance and brings forth an extraordinary alternative to the usual fare of creatures that go bump in the night.

Here her shifters are a different entity to werewolves, vampires exist in covens and the Shadow Clan is something else entirely and sits above all other non-humans providing a sort of balance between conflicting wolf packs.

And both sets of creatures have a unique blend of the traditional animal/human hybrid but with enhanced abilities and a gentle thread of magic which ties them to the physical world around them.

Zio and Deven are polar opposites but their attraction bounces off the page as they’re thrown headlong into a situation thwart with danger.

Part action, part paranormal romance, part mystery adventure, this opener has all the hallmarks of Garrett at her finest.

There is superb world-building, there are real and painful consequences for choices made, there is a deep and abiding love which fights to conquer all obstacles thrown in its path and there are threads laid down for the wider narrative to continue on.

It ends with a blend of extreme happiness, some trepidation about where series arcs will go next, some sorrow, a continuing battle between the species and loads of hope for a changing future.

I seriously cannot wait to see where it goes next.

This is just a wonderfully sweet novella from Eli

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

NOTE: Re-reading as Eli has republished it.

Well, this is still just a wonderfully sweet and touching novella that hits all the right notes and has one of the most original meet/cutes I’ve ever read in a book.

I still love Alex and Luke and the disability element of the narrative is still handled with ultimate sensitivity and respect.

Original Review

Arghhh too short! What a delightfully sweet novella with all the feels.

Just lovely from start to finish and little subtle touches of humour to stop it becoming mawkish.

Classic Ed, this has spicy and sweet in a perfect combination

Changed Hart (Harts Bay #2)Changed Hart by E. Davies

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is classic Ed Davies, it has an almost perfect mixture of sweet and spicy.

I’ve not gone for full marks in my rating only because, for me anyways, I found I was wishing Colt was just a little bit older so that I could fully embrace the whole sexual domination aspect.

That’s not to say that there is a need for an age limit to know what you want in the bedroom, or on the sofa 😉 and they definitely had loads of chemistry.

But Colt’s vulnerability in the rest of his life and his leftover anxieties and fears because of his history gave me pause when it came to this one element.

Ed certainly never made the narrative feel uncomfortable or silly, Rain and Colt just worked as a partnership as friends right from the off and I ultimately got with the programme as their relationship developed. YMMV.

The rest of the story was right up my alley though. I really like this new setting and the small town vibes and close-knit friendships.

I liked how Rain found his own inner strength to know he wanted to take a chance with Cole and I loved how the latter dealt with the big dramatic moment and found his own way of overcoming his vulnerabilities.

The split in two family arc is also fascinating for me and I can’t wait to see how that develops.

An elegant werewolf in Edinburgh…

  1. When Lindsay Somerville, the most elegant werewolf in Paris, learns that the man who held him in abject captivity for decades is on his way to France, intent on recapturing him, he knows he must leave the Continent for his own safety. Lindsay cannot take the risk of being recaptured—he may have been free for a century but he can still feel the ghost of his old chains under his fine clothes.

… on a mission…

While he’s in Edinburgh, Lindsay has been tasked with acquiring the “Naismith Papers”, the writings of a long-dead witchfinder. It should be a straightforward mission—all Lindsay has to do is charm an elderly book collector, Hector Cruikshank. But Cruikshank may not be all he seems, and there are others who want the papers.

… meets his match

As if that were not enough, while tracking down the Naismith Papers, Lindsay meets stubborn architect Drew Nicol. Although the attraction between them is intense, Nicol seems frustratingly determined to resist Lindsay’s advances. Somehow though, Lindsay can’t seem to accept Nicol’s rejection. Is he just moonstruck, or is Nicol bonded to him in ways he doesn’t yet understand?

Note: this is the first book of a duology – the story continues and will complete in the second book, Master Wolf.

An interesting blend of tropes makes this romance a hit

KickflipKickflip by Christina Lee

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One of the few Christina Lee books I’ve not read, Kickflip is an interesting blend of new adult, Motorcycle Club and love after trauma.

I enjoyed pretty much all of it, it never got overly angsty, the stresses and traumas felt real and believable and I loved the UST which built up slowly between Cory and Jude.

The big dramatic moment fit the Motorcycle Club narrative and I didn’t find it beyond the realms of possibility.

Loved the secondary characters and the setting and I’m planning on heading into the rest of the series after I’m done with my ARC commitments.
