Forgiving yourself is the first step toward finding true love.

Henry Atkins is determined to turn around his no-good, sorry life and prove to the residents of Clyde’s Corner that he’s not the town bad boy anymore. If going to church every Sunday with the Ladies Society is what it takes to polish his reputation, he’s all in. But when every secret fantasy in his head walks into the stables at Muddy River Ranch, the straight and narrow path he’s on takes a wild detour. It never felt so good to be so bad.

Micah has been one of the biggest porn stars in the world for five years, but he’s burned out. His body won’t cooperate to film even one more scene. A month’s vacation with his old friend Ben in Clyde’s Corner, Montana is just what his jaded heart needs. He wants rest, fresh air, and to not be recognized by a living soul. He sure as hell isn’t looking for a fling, and he wants nothing to do with Henry, the fanboy who works at Ben’s ranch.

The two men are both seeking a fresh start, an escape from the demons of their past. Fly fishing lessons on the river uncover the surprising number of things they have in common and forms a heartfelt bond that might save their weary souls. Only Micah’s past isn’t through with him yet.

Micah

Joshua started the line moving. Micah was working up his nerve to get on his horse when Ben rode up. “Hey. You wanna stay behind and help Henry clean up?”

Micah blinked. He noticed Henry was over at the grill, spreading the coals out. “Uh… sure.”

“Good stuff. Charlie’ll take Ranger and Clive back, so y’all can bring the truck along when you’re ready. Happy trails.” Ben winked at Micah and rode off, taking the rear position in the line of horses. Within minutes, they were out of sight, and it was just Micah and Henry.

They’d already packed the leftover food back into the coolers in the truck bed. Micah wiped down the tablecloths, folded them, and put them in the truck. They dumped the leftover ice and put the few leftover drinks in the truck too.

“What else do we need to do?” Micah asked, hands on his hips.

“Just take care of the fire.” Henry took a shovel out of the truck and went over to the campfire. It was still going pretty good.

“Wait. You’re gonna put it out?” Micah asked.

“Yup.”

They both looked at the fire.

“Kind of a shame,” Micah said. “Wanna hang out for a minute? Or do you need to get back?”

“Nah. Everyone’s probably left by now. We can stay for a spell if ya want.” Henry hadn’t looked at Micah much as they’d cleaned. Now his Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he swallowed, highlighted in the flickering firelight. Micah liked that Henry was a little nervous. A tingle of anticipation stirred in his belly. It was a good feeling, one he hadn’t had in a long time.

“Let’s stay,” he said quietly.

“Okay.” Henry tossed down the shovel and sat on the closest log to the fire. Micah sat down next to him.

“It’s nice out tonight,” Henry said hesitantly. “Did ya like the ride-and-dine?”

“It’s the best. Are the guests always so nice?”

Henry thought about that. “Pert much. Once in a while, you get a guy who gets a little drunk and rowdy. But nothin’ Joshua can’t handle.”

“Hmm.”

“Wanna beer?” Henry asked.

“Yeah. That sounds great, I was eyeing them earlier,” Micah admitted with a grin.

“Well, we’re off duty now.” Henry got up and fetched them both two cold bottles. When he came back, he sat closer than before.

The first swig struck Micah’s throat with an icy, bubbling hit that was pure pleasure. “Fuck. That hits the spot.”

“I’ve given up a lot of things, but beer? Never gonna happen,” Henry said.

They drank their beers, the night quiet around them except for the crack of an ember now and then. The fire died down until it held just enough glow that it wasn’t pitch-black out. But it was pretty dark.

There was something comforting and intimate about the dark. The air was soft and warm, curling around Micah like a caress. Henry’s presence was large and solid on his left. He couldn’t make out many details, though, which meant Henry couldn’t see him well either. At the thought, excitement sparked in Micah’s belly and a slow heat spread through his groin.

Shit. Why was that such a turn-on? Who cared? It was just nice to feel anonymous. To be just a body, just a man. A man who was young and healthy and hadn’t been attracted to someone like this in a long time.

The heat grew and spread. He was hard. He was horny.

He was no one at all.

“Henry,” he said, his voice a croak.

“Yeah?” Henry sounded breathless. Did he feel it too?

Micah reached out his hand and found Henry’s thigh. It was thick and warm under the denim. Micah laid his palm on it, brushed his fingertips along the inseam. Stopped.

His heart was pounding. Henry could shake him off if he wanted. Get up and walk away.

Henry shifted toward him. There was a hint of his eyes in the dark, a flicker of movement as he licked his lips.

“Wanna make out?” Micah asked, trying to sound casual.

“Hell ya.” Henry’s voice was so deep he didn’t sound like Henry anymore.

It’s a hat-trick of happy for me with Kelly Jensen’s romances

41710260.jpgRenewing Forever by Kelly Jensen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“…sex with someone you wanted this much could only ever remake the world.”

Kelly Jensen scores a hat trick with Renewing Forever, this makes three out of three for books I’ve read and fallen in love with.

This one is a gorgeous second chance romance, a later in life love restored, just like the old lodge house, and proof that it’s never too late to take a step on the road to forgiveness and understanding.

Both Frank and Tom are complex characters and there is no single issue of fault. Both made mistakes when they were just teenagers and both have spent 30 years living with the consequences and the regret.

There’s a feeling of not quite melancholy, but almost an element of time stood still and is now slowly coming to life again.

We find out more about Frank than his outward appearance of Simon’s jovial journalist best friend. We meet Tom, who I alternatively wanted to put away somewhere safe and conversely push out to experience the full scope of the world outside his doorstep.

There’s angst in this, but it’s the realistic drama of finding yourself back with The One who you never stopped loving but who had cut you to the bone and not knowing quite where to start the moving on process.

It’s a wonderful slow burn between two mature characters approaching their half century of life and I adored it. Now, who is going to be giving Brian his Forever in book three?!

At the café Milo Miracle co-owns with his twin sister, coffee and pastries are served up along with his unique blend of sass and snark. Milo knows that small-town life often means that every day is the same as the one before, and excitement can only be found in the gossip that travels faster than the speed of light. When the dark-haired Adonis who broke his heart returns home after a twelve-year absence, Milo unhappily finds himself at the center of Blissville’s favorite pastime.

Andy Mason was practically a kid when he left home to pursue big-league ambitions, but the man who returns to Blissville is humbled by shattered dreams and secrets he’s not ready to share with Milo. Andy’s no stranger to grit and determination, and he’ll need both to win back Milo’s cynical heart.

Strong wills clash with stubborn hearts, triggering combustible passion once Andy starts renovations at the café. Milo would like to keep Andy’s hands busy doing something other than construction. Andy would like to suggest what Milo can do with his wicked tongue besides trade barbs with him.

Neither man is willing to budge until they get a little shove from an outside force. Will Andy and Milo learn that trust is a two-way street, or will this time around end as disastrous as the first?

This time around is a witty, sexy, and endearing love story about two men who learn how to balance push and pull, both in and out of the bedroom.

It is the fourth book in the Road to Blissville series but can be read as a standalone book. This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adults eighteen and over.

EXCERPT

When Andy reached the top of the steps, he found a light switch on the wall. Only one socket had a bulb in it, so it wasn’t bright enough for Andy to see anything besides trunks and trunks of stuff stacked everywhere.

I turned my head slightly to the left and saw the outline of a woman’s silhouette out of the corner of my eyes. “Ghost!” I yelled, then dove behind Andy.

“Where?” Andy asked, turning in circles and swinging his flashlight to illuminate every corner of the dark, dusty space. “That?” he asked.

I peeked around his broad back and ducked my head under his armpit to see. In the center of the flashlight beam was one of those old-fashioned wire mannequins they used to hang dresses on. In fact, the mannequin sported a flowing, white dress that looked like something a woman wore in the eighteen hundreds. Of course, the white color of the gown in contrast to the dark space gave it a ghostly appearance.

“Seriously, Milo? I nearly pissed myself over a mannequin.”

“You almost jizzed yourself earlier.”

“Don’t pretend I didn’t feel your hard-on pressing up against mine, Milo.”

“True, but that wasn’t what I was referring to.”

“Then what the fuck are you talking about?” Andy asked, sounding angry all over again.

“Simon!”

“You want to talk about Simon, Milo? We’ll talk about Simon.”

“Fine, I’m going first. Since when does your uncle want to fix you up with your cousin? What kind of fuckery is this?”

“Paul isn’t my biological uncle,” Andy said. “He and my dad are best friends. Uncle was an honorary title I gave him when I was a kid.”

“Oh.” Yeah, that took the wind right out of my sails. “Are you going to take Simon on a date?”

“Should I, Milo? Is he good in bed?”

I gasped dramatically, of course. “Are you slut shaming me?”

“Are you acting slutty?”

“And if I was?” I demanded to know.

Silence. “You make me fucking crazy, Milo.”

“That makes two of us.” I realized what I said. “Wait. I meant that you make me crazy too. So crazy that I can’t even think. You rob me of my ability to snark.”

“You act as if that’s a talent,” Andy scoffed.
