Two of Noah’s Army buddies are dead.

Someone has taken shots at Noah.

And now Noah’s former lover, JB, is a target.

Noah, Rowe, and JB team up to track down a killer trying to take out all of Noah’s old Army team in hopes of covering up a dark secret.

But this trip to Washington, D.C. threatens to unravel the perfect life that Rowe and Noah have built over the past three years. JB’s arrival in their lives have Rowe and Noah wondering if they want the same thing for their happily ever after.

Rowe is sure of one thing—nobody threatens his man. And he sets out to show anyone with a hidden agenda what a bad decision that was.

Excerpt

Noah smiled to himself as he watched Rowe drive them home. His hands slid easily along the leather wheel. Soon those strong hands would be stroking down his body. The way the man kept looking at him during the wedding had him half-hard all evening. He knew it was the wedding—all the romance in the air.

A lingering worry had nipped at him earlier in the day that Ian’s wedding would bring back painful memories of Rowe’s own wedding, but he seemed fine and Noah couldn’t be more thankful.

So, he watched those hands. Being touched by Rowe was like nothing else in this world. The man worshiped his body with an all-in intensity that frankly awed Noah. And he knew that wouldn’t change, no matter how long they were together. He took in his dark-red hair, lit by moonlight, disheveled as usual, and his ripped shoulders and arms. The man filled out a suit well, but he couldn’t wait to peel him out of it.

“Keep staring at me like that, and I’ll be finding a secluded spot to pull over,” Rowe murmured, giving him a steamy look.

“That’d be fine with me. Did I tell you how hot you are today? You should wear suits more often.”

“Soon as we get home, I’ll show you my birthday suit.”

“That’s my favorite suit of all.” Noah grinned.

Rowe pulled to a stop at a red light and turned toward him, his green-eyed gaze hotter than the sun. “You clean up nice yourself. Come here.”

Noah leaned over to kiss him. Brakes squealed sharply. Noah jerked his lips away from Rowe’s before they could touch. A car had pulled up, perpendicular to theirs, in the middle of the intersection. A loud bang quickly followed and the ping of glass breaking. Startled, he looked at the windshield to find a small hole in it.

“Shit, get down!” Rowe grabbed him and shoved him into the seat, covering him with his body just as another shot broke through the windshield.

“Someone is fucking shooting at us!” Rowe stretched over him to reach the glove box where he kept his gun. He yanked it out but stayed down. “Are you hurt?”

Noah couldn’t believe the man covered him, but that was Rowe. “No, I’m fine. You?”

“I’m good.”

Tires squealed again and the roar of the car engine grew softer. A knock on the driver’s window had them both jerking upright. Rowe aimed the gun in that direction, ready to put two in whoever was stupid enough to be standing there. Noah rose, ready to jump out of their truck and attack.

The woman outside screamed and ducked away from the window. “I was just making sure you were all right!” she yelled, and Rowe immediately lowered his gun. “The person shooting drove off, but I got a good look at the car. I’m beside you at the stoplight. The driver just pulled right into the intersection and someone shot out of the front passenger window. Is everyone okay? I called 9-1-1.”

Noah looked out the windshield to find the first hole directly in front of him. He turned and found a matching bullet hole in the seat. It would have pierced his heart. Whoever shot at them had one hell of an aim. Or at least, they would have if Noah hadn’t leaned over to kiss Rowe at that moment. Holy fuck, that was close!

His stomach was in knots as he met his boyfriend’s gaze. “What the hell?”

Rowe rolled down his window, apologizing to the woman for scaring her. “What kind of car was it?”

“A black Volkswagen hatchback.”

“Did you see anyone in the car? Could you tell if either person was a man or woman?”

“The passenger looked like a man. I’m sorry, I didn’t get a good look at the person’s face.”

Sirens sounded in the distance, getting steadily closer. Rowe put his gun back into the glovebox and they both got out of the truck to look at the damage. Two police cars arrived with a roar of engines. The first cop opened his door and stood with his gun at the ready.

“The shooter drove away,” the woman yelled. She was certainly helpful and brave to have gotten out of her car at all. Her red Honda was still parked at the light beside them with several more cars stalled there as well. None of those people had gotten out of their vehicles, but now they did as the police gathered.

Rowe and Noah answered questions but because they’d ducked, they had less to offer by way of explanation than the woman who’d witnessed the whole thing.

“Was more than likely a drive-by,” one of the cops said as he made a few notes in his little notepad. “We’ve had a few of them recently. I’m glad nobody was hurt this time. The others weren’t so lucky.”

But Noah had a feeling it wasn’t some random drive-by.

Xin and the Agent is a perfect adventure romp romance

46642777._SY475_Black Sky Morning by Hanna Dare

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Xin and Jonathan Gray is a match made not quite in Heaven but in the inky black reaches of deepest space and it’s brilliant.

The rakish bounty hunter and the Commonwealth Agent couldn’t be more different if they tried but deep down, both are lost and looking to find meaning as they traverse the vast universes which make up this fantastic series.

Their paths have been converging since book one but here they finally clash in an epic tale of survival and intrigue on a long lost planet in the furthest corner of the galaxy.

I’ve loved each book in this series, with their mix of Farscape space adventures and Anne McCaffrey’s sentient ships, found family and men filled with honour fighting for lost causes and a new future.

For most of this book I had no clue where the narrative would take me and it was awesome as each twist was revealed.

I’m really hoping there’s going to be a final book to wrap it all up as I’m getting a feeling Agents Abrams and Digby might have secrets of their own too and I want to know if Ebba ever finds Novalie.

Aimee Nicole hits the target with another brilliant Road to Blissville romance

Prescription for love completePrescription for Love by Aimee Nicole Walker

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I don’t know how she does it but each time I think I’ve just read my favourite book from Aimee Nicole Walker, out she pops with another one!

This latest Road to Blissville novel is my kind of read, light on the angst but with just enough to keep a layer of tension going, heavy on the emotional connections and perfectly pitched with the necessary steam to burn up the sheets.

Josh’s old college boyfriend Trent aka Doctor Love, is the one under the spotlight here as we follow his second chance romance with firefighter/EMT Tucker and it really is a beautiful tale of romance, of finding your person, of being able to be yourself.

There’s the usual great group of secondary characters and I am totally in love with both Trent’s sister Mercedes and Tuck’s grammie Shirleen, who are both everything I want to see in a strong female.

On the other hand, Trent’s parents can take a long walk off a short cliff and that’s all I’m saying there!

Wonderful book in an outstanding series.

Neve Wilder made me want with this delicious romance

Want Me CoverWant Me by Neve Wilder

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sexual awakening stories are one of my favourite tropes and when that’s combined with Neve Wilder’s ability to fashion believable characters exploring sex in extraordinarily hot ways it can only be a winner.

As a newsletter subscriber, I’d received each part of this delicious college age new adult romance in serial format, but I’d been holding off reading them until all was done.

Well now not only is it done, it’s got an extra chapter and a fabulous epilogue to round it out and it’s glorious.

Nate and Eric are combustible, they’re all blazing passions and conflicted – on Nate’s part at first – emotions but their connection is clear to see.

I love this pair so hard, they’re shameless in how they make the other one feel but it’s not without complications.

I’m not going to spoil the whole plotline but the journey Nate goes through to realising he is in love with Eric is so well done.

Lily Morton almost kills me again with her fabulous snarky romances

Gideon (Finding Home, #3)Gideon by Lily Morton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I need more stars. I also need to learn not to drink tea at the same time as I read a Lily Morton book because this one nearly killed me five times in the first 20%.

Redemption stories are probably one of the highest forms of kryptonite for me (it comes in a variety not just the green one 😉 ) and with Gideon, Lily crafts one that works so well because, when we actually get to know Gideon, it’s not really a redemption so much as a realisation.

Gideon is a little boy lost, in his heart he’s still a seven-year-old being parcelled off to boarding school by two parents who were too busy for him, but not too busy when his younger brother Milo came long just three years later.

He’s found fame as a top Hollywood actor, but it’s come at the hands of a Machiavellian manager who I wanted to eviscerate slowly. I don’t think I’ve hated a character with as much venom as I did Frankie for quite a while (apart from Peter in Annabelle Jacobs’ Wounded Soul because he was just evil!

But Eli, oh he was such a gem of a character, I could hear his Welsh lit in the words he spoke, his kindness, his snark – because this wouldn’t be a Lily book without a snappy retort and lots of sarcasm – and the unfailing way he just got Gideon.

He saw inside to the hurt boy and he nurtured the love that Gideon was desperate to share but didn’t know how. And let me tell you, when Eli takes Gideon to bed the first time that scene is everything!

This book explains so much about why and how Gideon became the closed off, surface selfish man he appears, but the truth is so very different.

There’re the usual awesome contributions from the rest of the Cornish cast and the way they rally round Gideon is really special to read, especially how he behaved like an arse the last time he was at Chi an Mor.

Grumpy Gideon falling in love might just be my favourite thing I’ve read from Lily (until she gives me that rare breeds farmer she keeps promising).

As a PS, I still find it hilarious Lily hadn’t realised that, when placed side by side, the Finding Home series titles spell out OMG 😉

My sister asked me if I could stand the sight my own reflection, if I’d caused enough damage yet, but I didn’t see myself when I looked into the mirror. I saw Kieran standing behind me, pressing a kiss to my shoulder while he undid my belt. I saw everything I wanted that I couldn’t have. Not unless I was prepared to hurt everyone around me.

Kieran was in a similar situation.

Were we monsters or men? Were they one and the same? Did we give a flying f—hell. We did care. Just not enough to stop, not enough to walk away, and I knew we constantly asked ourselves the same question because of it.

If we could go back to when we met on the train…if we could erase the deceit, erase our first hello…would we?

Excerpt

Kieran Marshall was a good bloke. A great fucking guy. One of the best out there. He poured another round of shots, and I chased one down with a swallow of beer.

Who needed to try cocaine to spice up their boring life when you could meet an Irish enigma from Boston?

“Fuck, that’s it,” I hissed as the burn slid down.

I groaned and dragged my hands over my face. This was the life. This was the escape I’d needed for months now. I felt so good.

It’d taken us half an hour to get a buzz, and in that time, we’d gotten a few random topics out of the way. I learned we were the same age, only he was a September kid while I was turning twenty-nine in a few weeks. He’d gone to college in Savannah and dropped out after two semesters. It was in Georgia he’d met his wife, who was apparently six years older than him, and she was from Seattle. In order to escape the city rents when they eventually headed west, they’d settled down in Camassia and never left, even as his company started doing really well.

It was a Kieran Marshall crash course. Hardly enough, but it was a good beginning.

“I have a question.” I coughed into my fist, and Kieran waved a hand in go-ahead before downing another shot. “You said you worked three jobs and quit college. Today, you have a great job. Your wife, you said, earned a master’s in anthropology, and now she’s at home.”

“Yeah.” He pushed two shot glasses my way, both brimming with whiskey. “She’s…” He exhaled a chuckle. “She’s something else. Her mind—she’s one of the smartest women I know, but…she walked away. She doesn’t wanna work.”

“Huh.” I took a swig of my beer, and by chance, I caught a glimpse of a snack menu over the bar. Hell. I wanted wings. My stomach snarled in approval, so I got the bartender’s attention. “Can I have one of those, uh…” I pointed vaguely at the menu and squinted. “With all the snacks, a mix plate. Extra wings, thanks.”

“Sure thing.” The woman turned to Kieran. “Anything for you?”

“That sounds good—” He stifled a belch. “I’ll have the same.”

Glancing over my shoulder, I deduced the happy hour crowd had morphed into the group of lucky suckers who could go out on a Wednesday just like that. The music was a little louder, and everyone was a little drunker. My kind of people.

“Anyway.” I faced Kieran again and blanched. “What were we talking about?”

He laughed and shook his head. “I have no fucking clue.” He figured that was a reason to slide another shot my way, even though I hadn’t finished the other two. I had to catch up. “How did you meet Allison?”

“College.” I threw back a shot and made a face. “She had a full ride at Northwestern when she started. I was already a sophomore.” We were the same age, but Allison had taken a year off to plant trees in…some country where there were already trees everywhere. Okay, that was harsh of me.

Kieran let out a low whistle. “Good school. What did you study?”

“Marketing,” I replied. “Allison was studying finance, but—well.”

Kieran’s mouth twisted, and I narrowed my eyes at the little movement. He had…a mouth. And a faint five-o’clock shadow. My own mouth ran dry.

About the Author

I’m often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever.

Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together.

I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
