Right up there as one of Vicki’s best creations imho!

copy of touch of a yellow sun ebookTouch Of A Yellow Sun by V.L. Locey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is right up there at the top of the tree alongside the epic creation that is Victor Kalinski as one of my favourite offerings from Vicki.

Marek is just the sort of growly ice hockey player Vicki writes so well and my heart broke a million times as we found out more and more about his background and the circumstances which led up to his transfer to a barely hanging on team.

Shay, on the other hand, was such a joyous character to read, his personality and tranquil disposition just oozed off the pages.

Together they made magic and seeing the journey as they each found something precious in the other person was delightful.

Even the angst in this one, serious as it is in the subjects it touches on, never felt oppressive.

This was just what I was looking for in a sports romance, enough spice to balance the sweet, enough action to make the quiet times stand up. Bonus points for an awesome Siamese cat too 🙂

Book three’s sneak peek also looks brilliant.

Noble Hops is a perfect sign off to this series

Noble Hops (Trouble Brewing, #3)Noble Hops by Layla Reyne

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I need more stars! Lordy but this book was good and it perfectly wrapped up the Trouble Brewing series with a comprehensively tight and fast-paced plot.

So many times while reading this my heart was in my mouth wondering just where it was going to go next and how our merry band of suits was going to take the bad guy down.

I won’t be spoilering anything, but suffice it to say, the pay off is well worth the efforts expended to reach it and Cam and Nic are as solid as the rock of Gibraltar when it comes to their love and commitment to each other.

There are some surprises on the way, I’d guessed one of them but not necessarily the same circumstances it arose in, but other than that, I was biting my metaphorical nails right to the end.

I’m hoping the next foray will be a sideways shuffle across to the Coast Guard where I’d like to see someone get the better of Eddie and humble him with love!

Best one yet – snarky and full of witty dialogue

Deke (Fake Boyfriend, #3)Deke by Eden Finley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Best one yet imho. Eden takes things to another level with the third entry in the Fake Boyfriend series and gives us a wonderfully snarky relationship between a sports journalist and a closeted ice hockey player.

I loved pretty much everything about this narrative, from the smart and nerdy Lennon to the sweetly vulnerable Ollie.

Either way, this story had me wrapped round its little finger from the off, when Ollie bumps into Lennon when he’s escaping his overprotective and insanely supportive family by hiding in the Men’s Loo and outs himself by accident.

Lennon’s a wonderful character, he’s funny, a bit scared from teenage experiences and a bit determined to not let Ollie ruin his career because they’re falling for each other. The scenes with Ollie’s family, who know him as Clark because he looks like Superman’s alter ego, were among the best in the book.

There’s appearances from our other favourite pairings, Maddox and Damon and Noah and Matt just to reassure the reader their happy ever afters are still firmly on track and we get some new pairings which have now been confirmed by Eden as the subjects of books four and five (and I personally cannot wait for both!)

This book was just a delight to read, a bit of angst, lots of amazing chemistry and some joyously emotional and physically connected smexy times and very little in the way of miscommunication plot drivers.

Everything felt organic, the romance between the two was well paced and felt utterly believable and I loved it all. Put it this way, I started reading it at 11pm and went to bed at 3am when I’d finished it 🙂
