Everything old is new again in love and murder.

Work together, live together, and play together is the name of the game for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key. But one of those things changes when Chief Mendoza taps Sawyer to lead the newly formed cold case unit. His first task: solve the Magnolia Murders that spanned three decades and suddenly stopped in 2000.

Chaos ensues when a fourth Magnolia Queen contender is murdered during a preliminary round. With the pageant’s one hundredth anniversary looming, the pressure is on to produce results. Royce and Sawyer, along with their new partners, have to team up to solve the Magnolia Murders—old and new.

As the investigation continues, a surprise visitor and an unexpected phone call force the men to face painful things from their pasts. The future Royce and Sawyer dream of is within their grasp, but first, they’ll need to uproot the seeds of discontent they’ve buried deep.

The Magnolia Murders is the first book in the Matrimony and Mayhem trilogy, the second story arc for Royce Locke and Sawyer Key.

** New readers should start with the Zero Hour trilogy before reading Matrimony and Mayhem. **

The Magnolia Murders is a continuation of Royce and Sawyer’s happily ever after as they move into the next phase of their lives—professionally and personally. Though some storylines span the trilogy, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. Heat, humor, heart, and homicide abound. You have been warned. 18+

Royce straightened and stepped fully into his office, shutting the door behind him. Something devilish and dirty glinted in his eyes, and he crossed the room and planted his fine ass on the corner of Sawyer’s desk. “Hi. Did you miss me?”

“Terribly.” And it was true. He was excited about the prospect of leading the CCU, but he would miss having Royce as his partner.

Royce raked his eyes over Sawyer’s attire before scanning the room. “You’ve been home to change, and you set up your new office? And here I thought you might want my help.”

Sawyer scoffed. “You want to help christen my office, which is hardly the same as unpacking the boxes and organizing my desk.”

“Busted.”

“You’re in luck, though,” Sawyer said. “I haven’t had time to write up the case report for Dingbat.”

Royce wagged his finger and tsked. “Look who’s using childish nicknames now.”

“Oh shit,” Sawyer replied. “You’re rubbing off on me.”

Royce’s grin was dark and delicious. “Every chance I get, baby.” He raked his hot gaze over Sawyer. “You’re wearing the pretentious cashmere thingy for your press conference. Nice.”

Sawyer looked down at the storm-gray sweater vest he wore over a pale gray shirt and his lucky lavender tie. He lifted his head and met Royce’s smiling eyes. “Thanks. My boyfriend bought it for me for Valentine’s Day last year.”

“Nope,” Royce said, shaking his head to emphasize how adamant he was. “I bought it just because.”

Sawyer bit his bottom lip to keep him from laughing, but his restraint lasted only a few seconds. Royce rolled his eyes when Sawyer’s mirth bubbled out of him. Sawyer cleared his throat and wiped his eyes, but Royce’s deep scowl nearly sent him into a second fit.

“Asshole.”

“Dickhead.” Sawyer replied. “Can I just point out that your ‘just because’ gift was given to me after a candlelit dinner on February thirteenth?”

“Why do I suddenly feel like I’m on the witness stand?” Royce asked.

“Answer the question, Sergeant Locke. Do you honestly expect the jury to believe the timing of your gift was a coincidence?”

Royce crossed his arms over his chest. “Objection.”

Sawyer desperately wanted to kiss his pouty lips. “The witness can’t object.”

“I’m also representing myself at the trial.”

“So that makes you the defendant. Interesting. What crimes were you charged with? Eating cheese from a squirty can?”

Royce dropped his arms and leaned forward. “I am accused of killing off any chance another man has with you. No one will ever worship your body and heart the way I do. Now and forever.” His voice was thick and husky, lighting the fuse of lust in Sawyer’s core. “And, yes, counselor, I am guilty. I bought my boyfriend the super soft sweater thingy ‘just because’ it’s the same color as my eyes, and I like to mark him in every way possible. Until today, our relationship had to be a secret at work.”

Locke & Key are back and it’s a triumphant return!

The Magnolia Murders CoverThe Magnolia Murders by Aimee Nicole Walker

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It’s always a risk going back to a beloved pairing but Aimee Nicole absolutely nails this return to the world of Royce Locke & Sawyer Key.

Fear not, there’s no messing about with their happy, other than the usual dilemmas about the next steps to take and worries about whether they’re good enough for the other.

The narrative which surrounds their relationship is a beautiful one, filled with the love that oozes between the two men and with declarations of pride and happiness.

But what I adore the most about this Savannah based series, is just how much work Aimee puts into making the mysteries top quality. You could take out the romance elements of the Locke & Key stories and still have a 5* murder mystery read.

Of course, it wouldn’t have the delicious relationship at its heart which makes these books so special. On top of that, we also get a secondary thread with Royce trying to reconnect to his sister and her kids which is played alongside the investigation.

What I really loved about Magnolia Murders is that we get two cases. Sawyer is promoted and put in charge of a Cold Case Team, looking into the deaths of three beauty queen pageant winners spanning back 38 years.

While Royce is offered a new job running a team working with teenagers interested in joining law enforcement, he’s still working fresh murders and there’s been a new Magnolia murder.

The clever way the cases unwind is brilliantly done, and there’ll be no spoilers here, suffice it to say, I was enthralled throughout as the twists and turns wrap around both the cold cases and the latest killing.

With the stakes getting higher, Royce and Sawyer work every angle to try and bring resolution to families who’ve been dealing with the loss of their daughters for decades while also bringing the heat to their own relationship.

The way they love each other is palpable, they’re both nurturing but also capable of stoking the fires of passion high and this book is explosively hot!

I’m so happy Aimee went back to this world, I’d happily read a bajillion more stories with this bunch of characters. I will say, you do need to read the Zero Hour Trilogy before these if you want to get the full depth of Royce & Sawyer’s love affair.

The Magnolia Murders also lays down some new story threads which I suspect are going to be running through the next two books as well and all I can say is bring it on!

Hale Anderson

The Air Weaver.

He was the freaking Air Weaver. Not exactly what he expected when he got kidnapped by the pestilents, but Hale’s good rolling with the punches.

He can take a little time away from his pursuit of a doctorate in astrophysics to save the world.

Except that the final spell is poised to kill all the Weavers and their last hope lies with him finding his soul mate.

Hale doesn’t want a soul mate. He just wants Harrison.

Harrison William Davenport III

As the Keeper of the Heart of the Earth, Harrison must bring the final key to the Weavers if they’re to stop the pestilents.

He’s trained for this task his entire life. And he’s prepared to die just like his father did with the last generation of the Weavers.

But what if saving the world isn’t enough anymore?

What if the only thing that matters is saving Hale?

Storm Warrior is the final book in The Weavers Circle series. It includes fast-paced action, a dangerous cross-country roadtrip, dirty fun in tents, flying, bi-awakening sexy times, animal shenanigans, nerdy talk about the stars, jealousy, three crazy old ladies, magic, and a fight to save the world!

Bullets whizzed through the air closer to him with two shots digging into a column not far from his head. He whipped the gun around to spot where two pestilents were running toward him with guns drawn. Hale gasped and backpedaled. He squeezed the trigger, but nothing happened. Shit. The safety.

He fumbled with the little switch, but it was the pounding of feet racing his way from the other end of the porch that caught his attention. A tall man in a suit with raven-black hair and a stern expression was racing to him. Wow. Gorgeous. He was simply gorgeous.

So gorgeous in fact, that it took Hale an extra second to realize the man had a gun in each hand.

Fuck! He was only starting to swing the gun toward the man when he fired off several shots right past Hale. The Air Weaver spun to see the bullets hit their marks in three pestilents, killing them instantly.

The stranger saved him. What the—

“What are you doing out here if you don’t know how to protect yourself?” the gorgeous man shouted.

Hale took a breath to say something, but he wasn’t quite sure what. His brain wasn’t working, and his tongue was all tied up. He was overwhelmed. He generally wasn’t the type of person who got overwhelmed, but that described him in the middle of the bloody chaos.

Which was probably why it was so easy for the man to holster one of the guns, grab his wrist, and pull him back into the house.

Hale stumbled after him, trying to get his brain to process the events happening. The man turned toward the left but only glanced in the dining room before sneering at something and moving to the right. He made the same face when he peered into the library.

“Too many damn windows.” Twisting to face Hale, he jerked his arm as if trying to get his attention, but the stranger had all of Hale’s available brain capacity at this point. “What room doesn’t have a lot of doors or windows?”

Well, there was the downstairs half bath that had no windows, but there was no way he was getting shoved into that room, with or without the sexy man.

“The-the armory has no windows and only two doors,” he stammered at first, but finished, proud that he’d clearly remembered the room.

The stranger blinked, seeming surprised to hear the house had an honest-to-goddess armory, but he recovered fast enough. “Good. Take me there.”

Hale hesitated and sniffed the air. “You’re not a pestilent.”

The man gasped, looking appropriately horrified. “Of course not!” Well, that was a plus for him. Not only was he human, but he also knew what a pestilent was.

“Then who the hell are you?” Hale had already met all the Weavers, mates, and goddesses. He couldn’t even begin to guess who this handsome yet scary person was.

“A friend of the Weavers. The goddesses sent for me. Now, the armory? Where is it?”

Oh! That was much better. The guys had never mentioned the goddesses sending in more help, but they certainly needed it.

Hale took the lead, hurrying down the hall toward the armory. There was one main entrance to the room and a set of narrow French doors that connected to the front porch. That made the space much easier to protect.

The man’s quick dark eyes darted across the long table filled with weapons. He released Hale only when he had his back shoved against a bookcase in the far corner that gave him a good view of both doors. The man then moved to the French doors and peered out between the thin white curtains.

“Which of them are you?” the man inquired.

“Hale. Hale Anderson. I just arrived. I’m the Air Weaver.”

The stranger’s head slowly turned toward Hale. His eyes were wide, and his face had become incredibly pale. The bloodbath outside had not disturbed him, but something about what Hale had said had clearly shaken him.

“It’s true,” he whispered. “The Weavers Circle is finally complete.”
