The Groovy Alpha Cover

Blurb

An omega raised as a wealthy human in the lap of luxury… A Harley riding alpha who rules a pack of pot-growing wolves in a commune… what was fate thinking?

Sky Blackwood is an omega wolf who’s only ever lived a fabulous, all-too-human existence in the wilds of… Beverly Hills. A place where your best friend will smile in your face while stabbing you in the back if there’s money or fame involved.

His Gramps told him all about fated mates and the old-school shifters who still live in packs, but those were just stories. Until they aren’t. Sold by his family, Sky’s saved from the auctioneer’s block by Devon—a sexy alpha wolf who looks like surfer Thor, drives an even sexier Harley, and smells like everything Sky never knew he wanted.

If fated mates are real, what if all those other stories about packlife are as well?

Sky feels like he’s on the best adventure ever as he learns to live like a shifter. With Devon’s help, he’s ready to settle into the peaceful commune life. Only problem? Even paradise can be a camouflage for something darker.

Having grown up among people who hid their evil behind friendly smiles and designer clothes, Sky soon realizes Devon needs help if they’re to survive the unseen threat. He’s not worried, he was taught to “handle people” from the cradle, a few hippies with criminal intentions shouldn’t be too difficult, right?

The pack’s problems are easy to fix, but his real issue… not so much. What exactly is expected of an omega and how is he supposed to actually do it? Fortunately, his mate’s brothers know a few omegas who are all too happy to help.

The West Coast Wolves is an mPreg series about five alphas. A small pack of bikers who spent years riding the highways and helping those in need until fate gave them each a pack to lead. This 78k full-length novel is Devon’s story. Prepare yourself for a dual pregnancy, an omega discovering his power, and more giggles than are appropriate during violent scenes. But then again, this is a Susi Hawke book, so what else can you expect?

Excerpt

Even if it smushed my hair, helmet head was worth every exhilarating second I spent riding on Devon’s motorcycle. Also, I didn’t hate having to wrap my arms around his waist or leaning against that broad back while we rode.

We didn’t go far, but then he’d told me we wouldn’t. Apparently he didn’t like to get on the highway without being dressed for it. Or as Devon put it, even wolves can get road rash. Personally, I was waiting to see him in his leathers.

I’d watched every season of Sons of Anarchy and hadn’t missed the fact that I was getting my own real-life Jax. Only without the drugs and arms dealing. Although… he did say something about running a pot farm.

It occurred to me I probably shouldn’t find that idea as hot as I did, at least not while I was shoved up so close he could feel my erection. Not that I had any control over it, sitting on a powerful, vibrating sex machine on two wheels would get anyone hard.

Also? His scent was doing funny things to me. He smelled like a true California boy, all ocean breezes with a rich, nutty undertone, kind of like the walnut groves upstate where my gramps had grown up.

Mostly, he smelled like… mine. Like I’d come home after a lifetime of being lost in the wilderness.

Shit, look at me getting all poetic. My friends would eat me alive over their brunch mimosas if they ever heard the sappy stuff running through my mind. I pushed those friends to the back of my mind. They were part of the human world. If I was starting this new adventure, becoming part of a pack, I should probably begin by embracing my wolf and putting my human life behind me.

At least… the human part that’d lived in the city. I was going to be a country wolf now, dammit. Hmm. That called for a new wardrobe, I’d have to ask Devon about proper farming attire. My thoughts were still swirling when Devon pulled into the parking lot of a chain hotel I recognized from TV commercials. God knew I’d never stayed in one, or expected to. Hopefully there weren’t bugs.

New life, new adventure, remember? Don’t get snobby, it isn’t becoming.

Besides, if my nearest and dearest in my wealthy world had sold me like a used car, why would I want to be like them? Nope, I was going to embrace my Gramps’s philosophy of life—keep an open mind, park my privilege, and embrace change. He swore happiness could be found in the smallest things, now I guess it was time for me to find out if that was true.

After we’d pulled off our helmets, Devon hooked a thumb toward the glass doors. “Holiday Inn okay with you? It was close, and it’s clean. Better than a lot of places I’ve stayed or would pick for myself, but I want you to be comfortable.”

Choosing adventure with my mate was clearly the correct choice. Would he always be so sweet? When an unexpected emotion threatened to clog my throat, I giggled instead, batting my eyelashes as I went for the flirty response.

“As long as you’re here, I’m down for anything. Past me might’ve cracked a joke, but the guy who just got rescued from being auctioned is too happy and too free to gripe about something that silly. Or like the old saying goes—don’t sweat the petty, pet the sweaty stuff.”

Devon snorted, taking my hand as we walked. “I like you, Sky. You’re a funny guy. Seriously though, I have a feeling you’ve never darkened the doors of a normal motel, tell me I’m wrong. Even in those cheap sweats, you stink of class and old money.”

“Okay, you got me. This isn’t my idea of a proper inn. For that, I’d have to take you to this adorable little chalet high in the Alps. The Swiss couple who own it run a tight but luxurious. But this isn’t the Mountain Inn, and it doesn’t need to be. Just give me a shower, a bed, and your arms—preferably in that order.”

“Now that I can do.”

About the Author

susihead-300x300-1

I’m a happily married mom of one snarky teenage boy, and three grown “kids of my heart.” As a reader and big romance fan myself, I love sharing the stories of the different people who live in my imagination.

My stories are filled with humor, a few tears, and the underlying message to not give up hope, even in the darkest of times, because life can change on a dime when you least expect it.

This theme comes from a lifetime of lessons learned on my own hard journey through the pains of poverty, the loss of more loved ones than I’d care to count, and the struggles of living through chronic illnesses.

Life can be hard, but it can also be good! Through it all I’ve found that love, laughter, and family can make all the difference, and that’s what I try to bring to every tale I tell.

Sky and Devon’s pot farm adventures are a great read

58471097._SY475_The Groovy Alpha by Susi Hawke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this one a lot, it had humour as well as a sweet spark between Sky and Devon and the whole pot farm element really worked well.

I also appreciated there was a lot more of the West Coast Wolves as a pack in this one, even though they’re all off doing their own thing, we saw plenty of the other guys from the first three books.

The plot itself is solid, it centres around traitors inside the pack and how Sky’s omega power of being able to see someone’s eyes changing colour when they lie comes in very handy.

There’s not as many smexy times in this as you might expect with an mPreg omegaverse but it totally fits within the narrative and Sky and Devon are super sweet together.

I also very much appreciated Gramps, he was a lovely addition to the pack and it was great to see Tucker, the one WCW who doesn’t have a territory of his own, and his gang of bikers and now I can’t wait for his story to round out the series.

This has been an overall enjoyable omegaverse, one that’s probably a great intro for anyone who’s not read any of that type of trope before.

Beta-s-Vampire Cover

Blurb

Beta of the Penhul pack with a vampire? Over his dead body.

Lucian is bored. After a century of being a vampire nothing surprises him anymore. Life, such as his can be called one, has become predictable. Humans are predictable. Add in the fact he’d rather not feed from them, and a visit with a witch friend of his clan is a welcome distraction.

But when he meets Benedict, it’s anything but predictable, especially when he stumbles across the man transforming into a dog before his eyes. And never in an eternity did he think he would find himself wanting to drink the mutt’s blood.

As beta of the Penhul pack, Benedict knows pack comes first, like having to spend weeks away in the Lake District on pack business. But the last thing Benedict expects to find when he returns is his brother having found his fated mate, or worse, a vampire feeding from his witch. His homecoming definitely won’t go down as his finest moment, and he’s certainly not prepared for his reaction to the bloodsucker.

Can Benedict see past their differences and put aside his prejudices of vampires? Or will his choice of mate cost him his pack?

This MM romance from Beth Laycock features enemies to lovers, fated mates, a vampire with an aversion to feeding on humans, a sexy man that can shift into an adorable dog, and of course a HEA. The Beta’s Vampire is the second book in the Penhul pack series and should be read in order.

Excerpt

Because for a moment I’d forgotten he was a bloodsucker. He had been just a guy I was attracted to. Except he wasn’t, because I’d never shared my familiar side with anyone outside of my pack. Not even the few witches I’d fucked knew that I was a familiar.

Shit. I dropped the desk panel I’d been trying to attach to the back piece and clasped my hand.

Lucian darted back into the shop at the clatter, then stopped dead. He inhaled, loud and deep, his head dropping back as his nostrils flared. His gaze zeroed in on where I held my hand, and there was definite fang showing when he licked his lips. “What—?” he croaked before he froze, no longer breathing if his stilled chest was any indicator. “What happened?”

“I don’t know. The edge of the panel is rough and I dragged my hand over it by accident.” Despite holding my hand over the cut across my palm, I could feel the blood flowing from the gash. A drop fell onto my chinos, the dark red spot standing out starkly against the cream material. I felt a rush of air, and when I glanced up, Lucian was crouched in front of me, closer than I expected.

His entire focus was on my hand, head bent and his blond hair spilling over his forehead, hiding his face from me. “Lucian?”

He raised his head and swallowed thickly. Our gazes met before he closed his eyes as though he was in pain. “I have to go.”

“Why?”

His eyes flew open and he clenched his jaw. I stared at the muscle in his cheek as it ticced, fascinated by it.

Through gritted teeth, he said, “Why do you think?”

“But I’m a familiar. Can you feed on familiars?”

He closed his eyes again as though trying to control himself. “I don’t know, having never done it. But the scent of your blood…” As his words trailed off, he swallowed again before opening his eyes and meeting my gaze.

And I don’t know why, but I sat up on my knees, and when my inner dog whimpered, I pushed it. “The scent of my blood, what?”

He ran his tongue over one of his fangs and then rolled it as if he was tasting the air. “The scent of your blood is intoxicating. I’ve never wanted to taste someone so much.”

About the Author

Beth Laycock Logo

Beth Laycock’s books are influenced by her time living overseas as well as the gritty, urban landscape of the north of England where she grew up. She has been reading romance since she was old enough to tell herself that line every book lover does—just one more chapter.

As a teenager, she attempted to write her first novel, and many more since then are still gathering dust on her bookshelf. It wasn’t until she discovered the M/M genre that her muse showed up and refused to quit telling her stories about beautiful men finding love together. She hasn’t stopped scribbling them down since.

Beth’s muse usually shows up when she is in the shower, is allergic to cleaning, rarely lets her watch TV, and insists she drinks copious amounts of coffee so she can turn caffeine into words.

Beth’s books range from sweet to sexy, long to short, contemporary to paranormal, but a HEA is always guaranteed.
