Matt Sullivan knows he met someone special the night he spots the sexy man on the dance floor. However, he doesn’t know his life is about to change forever. First of all, Matt is straight. Okay, maybe not, but he doesn’t think falling in love and spending the rest of his life with a hotheaded, unapologetically fabulous diva is an option.

Aaron Mendez is confident, smart, and very comfortable in his skin. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. And though he might have reservations about falling for someone newly out of the closet, no one has ever looked at Aaron the way Matt does.

Navigating a relationship has its challenges, but both Matt and Aaron are willing to deal with difficult parents, holiday blues, and learning curves. They know their happy ever after is worth fighting for and that true love is better than good.

*No/low angst, sexy fun! This collection of short stories follows the lives of Matt and Aaron from my first novel, Better Than Good. The end of one chapter is the beginning of a whole new story from ordinary everyday life to an engagement, a wedding, and more.

This collection is dedicated to Matt and Aaron fans and those who believe that the real love story happens after the first “I love you”.

Better Than Wedding

“What’s Saturday?”

“A no-work day. And we’re meeting with our wedding planner. I was worried his ideas would be too pricey, but Vic will be thrilled when I tell him you agreed to spare no expense on the reception.”

“That doesn’t sound like something I’d say,” I huffed, blowing on a spoonful of chili, then taking a bite. “Mmm. This is delicioso.

“Gracias. Well, someone who looks and sounds a lot like you just agreed to a unicorn ice sculpture at our reception,” he deadpanned.

I snorted. “Yeah, right. You can’t use anything I say in the last few seconds of a playoff game against me.”

“Does that mean no to two champagne fountains too?” He snickered at my stone-faced expression as he reached for his wine. “Fair enough, but you’d better start weighing in before I’m tempted to do something crazy. This isn’t just my wedding, it’s our wedding.”

I turned to fully face him. “I thought we were set. We have a date, a place, and a minister. We agreed on invitations, and we even talked about our honeymoon. What am I missing?”

“The details, Matty! All the details.” Aaron flashed an incredulous look at me and smacked his hand on the island. “Look, you’re busy at work, and I know the last things you think about are table decor and cake toppers, but I’m busy too and I can’t stop thinking about them. And then my head explodes with more choices like roses or lilies, chocolate ganache or buttercream, and don’t even get me started on the seating arrangements. It’s making me crazy!”

“I can see that.” I chuckled and set my spoon aside, snaking my arm around his waist when he glared at me. “Hey, I’m kidding. Tell me what you want me to do. How about if I choose the flowers?”

“Oh, no. Definitely not. I know you too well, Matty. You’d wait until the last minute, then either ask your secretary or my future monster-in-law to help and there’s no way in hell I’d—”

“Hey. No need to get nasty here.” I threaded my fingers through his and kissed the platinum band on his left ring finger.

“I’m sorry. I know I told you I’d handle things, but you’re kind of strict about the budget.”

“One of us has to be if we want to buy—”

“I know.” Aaron leaned against me and kissed my shoulder. “I think it’s a great idea, but the problem is that you don’t really understand how much things are. You need to be part of some of the major decisions, so you get the picture. I have a proposition to make.”

“Oh, boy. What did you do, and how much is it going to cost?” I asked, slipping his glass from his hand and taking a healthy swig.

“Ha. Ha. I didn’t do anything. Yet. But let’s be real—this whole thing is going to cost a fortune, but it’ll be worth it. I’ve already done the bulk of the research, and Vic is a great resource, but I still think we should have a weekly powwow so I can go over things with you before we meet the wedding planner. So we don’t waste time or veer off course…because yes, Vic really did ask how my fiancé felt about a caviar bar.”

“Oh, my God.” I set the glass down and gulped.

“Don’t worry, Papi. I told him it wasn’t your style. But gosh, I could easily get talked into a champagne fountain. It sounds romantic, doesn’t it?”

“No.”

Aaron snickered at my quick reply and gestured for me to eat. “See the problem? I promise I won’t make any rash decisions, but I need your input on some things if we’re going to make it to the altar without you wringing my neck when I’m ten thousand dollars over—”

“Ten thousand!” My jaw dropped as I widened my eyes comically.

“Calm down. I’m innocent. I’ve been so good it hurts,” he said with a sigh. “But if something is going to hurt, it should be in a good way. And preferably with an orgasm or two. Don’t you agree?” Aaron lowered his hand and rubbed his palm over my half-hard cock.

“Y-yeah.”

“We should have our husband-to-be chats once a week to discuss our plans.”

I lifted my hips slightly and cupped his neck to bring him closer. “Good idea.”

“But you’ll have to give me your undivided attention,” he purred as he pulled at the elastic bands of my shorts and boxer briefs. Then he slipped his fingers under the fabric and grabbed my dick. “I don’t want to compete with basketball, baseball, or anything else. It’ll be a special date. Just me and you.”

“Mmm. Yes.” I licked the corner of his mouth, pulled his pajamas and boxer briefs down, and kneaded his ass.

“We can be flexible about the day and time,” he said in a throaty tone, nipping my jaw as he stroked me from base to tip.

“What about location?” I asked, tracing his crack with my middle finger.

“Yes. Anywhere is fine.”

The only thing worse than Mingo not living out his Christmas rom-com fantasy is having his sworn enemy be the one to make all his holiday dreams come true.

I’d rather roast my chestnuts over an open fire than spend a single second around Marley. So when that grinch shows up at my apartment to hang out with my friends over Christmas break, I’m ready to deck his halls, if you know what I mean.

After he starts an argument with me, I take advantage of the mistletoe hanging above us to end it with an impulsive kiss to shut him up, once and for all. But I make one crucial miscalculation: Marley kisses to win, and I refuse to lose.

Now, I want to jingle his bells and make it a white Christmas. It must be a holiday miracle that I went from hating a guy to wishing he’d plow me like the snowy roads.

Can we call a truce long enough to make it a not-so-silent night?

Friend or Mistlefoe is a standalone holiday novel in the Sunnyside universe. This comedic enemies to lovers gay romance is full of holiday cheer and naughty Christmas banter. If you love cute sweetness, sexy fun, and no angst stories that will make you laugh and swoon, you’ll enjoy this festive HEA without cliffhangers.

Chapter 1: Mingo Nevins

Marley set his coffee aside but continued petting my cat. “Perhaps if you weren’t so self-righteous all the time, we would get along.”

“Oh, I’m the fucking problem?” I demanded with outrage.

“You never give an inch.”

“Because you would take a mile!” I huffed with irritation.

As always, he was unflappably cool. It was infuriating. “I don’t know what you’re so mad about. You started the animosity first.”

“No, it started with you being an insufferable know-it-all about everything.” I couldn’t stand it.

He shrugged. “What’s wrong with knowing a lot of things about a ton of stuff?”

“It has more to do with how you use your ‘superior intellect’ as a weapon to make everyone feel bad about themselves.” I had seen him use his knowledge to beat down so many people in our classes. He tried to put me in my place, but I did my best to never let him get the upper hand. It was tough when we almost always ended up with a few together each semester since we both studied the same period of Japanese history.

“If they feel bad about themselves because they were out-argued, that’s a them-problem. It’s not my fault that they’re intimidated by my brilliance because of their own inferiority complex.”

Whenever he said such arrogant things, it made my teeth grind. “Oh, please. You’re not that great. I can eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out a better argument than you could ever dream of coming up with.” I hated how it gratified me when he genuinely laughed at my comment while my friends howled with amusement.

“Ha, I’d like to see you try.”

“In the spirit of the seasons, I’d rather see Mingo try to eviscerate Marley with Christmas puns,” Alain said. He was always the first to goad us on because he was convinced we wanted to fuck out our aggression. “Because this is love at frost sight if I’ve ever seen it.”

“Love at frost sight?” I scoffed at the ridiculous notion. “I’d rather deck his halls!”

It startled me when Marley reached over with a crooked finger and tilted my chin up to meet his gaze. “Funny, it sounds more like you want to jingle my bells and make this a white Christmas,” he said in a dark rumble that turned my insides to molten lava. Despite the ambiguity surrounding his sexuality, he certainly looked interested in seducing me. Damn it, I was too much of a sucker for clever wordplay for him to be that skilled at my favorite type of banter. Why did he always have to be the best at everything? It wasn’t fair. “Is that what you want, Mingo?”

More than anything, what I wanted to do was shut him up for good. As he looked deep into my eyes while caressing under my chin like he had done to my cat, something vital broke inside my brain. It was the only excuse for why I reached out, grabbed a fistful of his soft cardigan, and yanked him in for a demanding kiss under the mistletoe hanging above us. After all, there was more than one way to win an argument. And I was determined to come out on top for once, even if it meant playing a little dirty.

Chapter 1: Alessandro

“You think I couldn’t land a hot guy?” Lachlan asked in an offended tone.

“Oh, you could have any man you wanted.” Baxley’s comment made my envy spark like a live wire. “But if you plan to date the male equivalent of your normal girlfriends, do us all a favor by never switching teams.”

Callahan burst into laughter, but I didn’t have it in my heart to join in. Instead, I took one last shot. I swam over to Lachlan and ran my hand up his shin and over his knee to rest where his white trunks started. My touch made him shiver despite the warm summer day. “You’d be much better off taking me up on my offer to take care of you.”

“For once in your life, please make a good decision, Lachlan,” Baxley teased him. “Let Alessandro show you why you shouldn’t spend another moment wishing what’s-her-name comes back.”

To my surprise, Lachlan seemed to be considering my proposition. I could see myself reflected in his mirror-finished sunglasses as he looked at me. “What’s in it for you?”

Making all of my dreams come true. However, there wasn’t a chance in hell I was about to admit that out loud. Instead, I chose a more playful retort. “A guaranteed good time for both of us.”

“Yeah, but you don’t actually want to suck my dick…do you?”

“Holy shit, he’s thinking about it!” Callahan exclaimed through laughter.

“Clearly, we’ve underestimated how desperate his dick is to find a willing hole.” Baxley snorted, earning him another kick of water in his direction.

Unable to resist, I slid my hand up the inside of Lachlan’s swimming trunks to refocus his attention on me. He startled as his thigh tensed under my touch. I gave him my best attempt at a seductive look. “All you have to do is say, ‘Please,’ and I’ll show you pleasures you’ve never imagined.”

“Yeah, right.” He scoffed, but I heard the uncertainty underlying his tone. “You’re just joking like you always do.”

“No, he’s definitely serious,” Callahan disagreed with a laugh. “You should take him up on it after all these years. Maybe you’ll learn something about yourself.”

Since Callahan was the only other straight one amongst us, Lachlan asked his opinion. “Would you let Alessandro suck your dick?”

It surprised me he didn’t need to think about his answer. “Mouths don’t have gender, so sure, why not?”

Lachlan’s jaw dropped in shock. “Seriously?”

“What’s the big deal? He doesn’t have to be in love with me to suck my dick. It’d just be a friend helping a friend. I’d probably even jerk him off afterward as a thank-you.”

Baxley swam up behind Callahan and embraced him. “If you’re open to other offers, Alessandro isn’t the only one here who’s interested in cocks.”

“I’m almost horny enough to say fuck it, let’s do a circle jerk, so don’t push it, Bax,” Callahan joked as he swam out of his friend’s grasp. “I know I’ve been single for too long when you’re somewhat tempting.”

Baxley’s blue eyes lit up with delight. He had been interested in Callahan from the first moment I introduced them two years ago, but our straight friend seemed oblivious to that fact.

Returning my attention to Lachlan, I stroked his thigh, sending a shudder through him. “So, what do you say?”
