Alex

I’m the starting quarterback for the Portland Pirates, and I have a thing for my son’s teacher. Except I didn’t know the cute blonde on the beach with the giant dog was, in fact, my kid’s teacher until two months later at Open House.

Christian took my breath away during the second week of my two-week vacation at the beach and introduced me to things I never knew could feel so good and be so right. I think he just might be the one who inspires me to tell the world that this NFL quarterback is bisexual and in love with a man.

That is until I blew the best thing to happen to me since my kids were born. All I know is I have to get him back. I had to find a way to keep him.

Christian

I never imagined I would meet the love of my life while being bowled over on the beach by the overeager Newfoundland I was dog-sitting. But that’s exactly how I ended up on my back in the sand, wrapped in his arms and pressed into the sand by the six-foot-five dark-haired Adonis on the beach. Did I mention he had two beautiful children?

Our week together was worthy of a sexy modern-day fairytale full of promises about the future until he sent me the text that broke my heart. And how was I supposed to get over him when his adorable six-year-old son was in my class?

Find out how Alex and Christian ache to overcome some daunting complications to reunite in The Quarterback Keeper, Book One of The Package Deal Series.

Excerpt

What the hell had just happened? One minute, I was playing fetch with my dog; the next, I had my arms wrapped around the most beautiful man I’d ever seen, trying to protect him from the onslaught of their excitement.

Christian was cocooned in my arms, and the familiar tingling had returned at the mere touch of his skin. My mouth was only inches from his, and his eyes were blue pools of… pain? What the fuck?

“Oh, god,” I rasped, “are you okay?”

I untangled myself from him by gently rolling us onto our sides. Much to my utter horror, my lonely dick decided this was a good moment to become an iron shaft and press itself into his stomach. Mortified was not a strong enough word to describe how I felt about the situation.

“Uhh, I don’t know. My wrist is really hurting,” he replied, tears welling in his eyes. Even as he bit down on his lips to stop them from falling.

“Oh god, I’m so sorry. I tried to catch you from falling when the horses came running through,” I said, trying to use humor to make him forget about my driftwood poking him in the stomach. Damn, he smelled good. Would he taste as good?

Focus Alex! The man is hurt, for fuck sake.

“Don’t make me laugh,” he chuckled, but his brow was scrunched up. Clearly, he was still obviously in pain as he sat up once I had removed myself from pancaking him.

“Can I see it? I’ve had an injury or two like that in the past.” Christian pulled his arm from his chest and slowly lowered it into my waiting hands. The familiar tingling returned as I carefully studied it as if I were an orthopedic surgeon. Of course, I wasn’t, so I had no idea what was wrong with him.

“I don’t think it’s broken, but with bones in the wrist, you never know for sure without an x-ray,” I said gently, running my thumbs over the uninjured part of his skin.

“It hurts like hell.” He winced. “I’ll be okay. Just need some ice on it.”

“I think you should see a doctor. I’ll take you to the Urgent Care in town,” I said as I stood and waited to help him from the sand. I looked over to find both dogs lying in the sand, watching us like a tennis match. At least I wouldn’t have to corral them.

“It’s okay, Alex. I just need some ice on it and maybe some ibuprofen. I’ll be fine,” he tried to reassure me. I almost let it go until I saw him flinch and pull his knees to his stomach when what had to be a bolt of pain radiated up his arm.

Yeah, there was no way I was letting him go without getting checked out.

About the Authors

Rheland Richmond Logo

For as long as she can remember Rheland’s had her nose stuck in a book, getting lost in the world of someone else’s creation (She still does). Her love for writing came from her love for reading. She could never have one without the other.

Writing has always been a hobby and a cathartic experience for her. There are many stories lost to the never to be completed or published pile but needed to be written at the time.

She’s just a girl that loved stories so much she wrote hers.

Rheland would love to hear from her readers and learn more about Y’all. So if you get a chance… please get in touch.

Emerson Beckett Logo

Who is Emerson Beckett? That’s a good question.

I’m a retired educator who loves all things romance and an avid reader and consumer of well-written M/M romance books.

My journey to becoming an author started with an idea I had one night while I sat reading on my sofa. That idea became an email that ultimately resulted in me editing for three wonderfully talented M/M romance authors. The third referral led to an opportunity to co-write with one of the most genuine and kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. (She’s my co-author for Quarterback Keeper.)

I’m a wife and a mother of three beautiful adults, one of which is trans and responsible for my love of this genre. All three have since left us with an empty nest that is now full of pets.

Spencer isn’t actually an arse at all and I love him all the more for it

the red zone coverThe Red Zone by Beth Bolden

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve spoilered the beta read background to my review thoughts for those who aren’t bothered.

***SPOILER BUT NOT REALLY***

When Beth sent me the beta read Word Doc for this book I started reading it thinking I’d just get a few chapters in and then come back to it later.

Yeah, that didn’t happen. I read it all in one go and my only comment back to her was:

Bloody perfection!

Honestly, I have no comments. Okay, there’s a couple on the Doc but they’re more along the lines of OMG I love this, Me Too Spencer, and I want more 😀

So you can imagine how I feel about this book.

***ENDS***

We first met Spencer in Chase and Tate’s Food Truck Warriors book Hit the Brakes when he wasn’t particularly nice at all.

Here, we find out why he’s got a reputation as an absolute arse both on and off the field.

As the NFL’s first out player, he’s spent nine years at a team filled with homophobia and bigotry trying to be the most masculine defensive player on the field without any support in the locker room.

When I started this book, I honestly did not expect to love Spencer the way I did. I knew there would be more to his story because Beth writes characters who live in the imagination as fully fleshed out people with flaws.

But the pain this guy has had to live with, not only in his isolation at what should be a second family for him – the changing room of his professional team – but also in suppressing every part of his personality which doesn’t fit into his outwardly projected self, killed me.

Alec though, I knew I loved Alec from the off because he’s been there in the background of so many of Beth’s footie and foodie stories as the out agent for a number of big name sports personalities.

When you find out just how long these two have been dancing around each other, and how long they’ve been in love without ever acting on it, I swear your heart will break just like mine did.

Through the clever use of limited flashbacks, we get to see every time Spencer and Alec met and how they came so close but let their fears or outside pressure stop them from connecting.

The opening Prologue of this book is a harsh look at the pressures of professional sport and while a few players are out, they’re still pretty much unicorns in arenas which are filled with unaccepting minorities who are very vocal about their disdain.

The love between Spencer and Alec is a beautiful thing, seeing how the two work together to not only get Spencer away from the toxicity of his pro team, but also in how Alec gets him to open up and actually explore and discover who he is as a gay man, will bring tears unless you’ve got a heart of stone.

It’s no secret that Colin O’Connor and his love Nick from Beth’s The Rainbow Clause are my absolute favourite couple of hers, but I have to tell you, Spencer and Alec pushed them all the way here.

This book is a wonderful addition to the Riptide catalogue.

Oh, and don’t miss out on the Bonus Scene (via Book Funnel sign up for Beth’s newsletter) because it will simultaneously make your eyes leaky and set fire to your undies as Spencer and Alec show why their utterly perfect for each other in the bedroom 🔥🔥🔥🤪❤🔥🔥🔥

Another absolute belter in this new Colorado-set series from Lucy

56326586Right as Raine by Lucy Lennox

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ooh, this new series from Lucy is shaping up to be an absolute belter.

This is really sweet, has all the feels and a pair who will always put the other one’s feelings at the heart of their relationship.

I loved the free short story starring folk rock musician Gentry and OT Winter, but this one was even better.

What I really liked about this one was the clear friendship and connection between Tiller and Mickey irrespective of their attraction to each other.

There was love and respect there before they gave up fighting their feelings and became lovers.

They also, mostly, talked through their issues and, the one time they didn’t, it made complete sense why not.

It wasn’t just a dramatic moment for the sake of it. I also loved being back in Aster Valley and catching up with the town’s people, and I’m seriously looking forward to the next book!
