My new neighbor is a total tool

He hated me from the second he laid eyes on me, and I don’t have the first clue why…

But, if he wants to hate me, I’m happy to give him a few reasons: mowing the lawn at dawn on the weekend, leaving garbage cans in front of his driveway, renting a petting zoo for my backyard…making a list of ways to drive him crazy is half the fun.

He deserves it with the way he’s driving me crazy right back without even trying— walking around without a shirt on, sweaty rippling muscles on full display, well-worn denim jeans perfectly molded to his…well, you get the idea.

My point is, if he wants a war, I’ll give him one.

***

Nailed is an enemies to lovers, neighbors who can’t stand each other, omg the anger banging, drool worthy, low angst story, which happens to be the second in my Four Bears Construction Series. It CAN be read as a stand alone. There are NO shifters in this series, only the OTHER kind of bears.

Excerpt

I’m in the midst of a lovely dream involving a cherry seventy-nine Triumph Bonneville between my thighs, purring like a kitten as we tear down the winding back roads of the Midwest on a gorgeous summer afternoon, when the image is shattered by the deep, booming bark of my furry best friend.

I jerk awake, nearly falling out of bed, my hand flying out to catch myself on the nightstand before I can topple to the floor.

“Dammit, Rudy, knock it off,” I growl, my voice like gravel from the dryness of sleep. I kick at my sheets, tangled around my legs and rub my hands over my eyes while the damn mutt ignores me and continues on with his canine theatrics. “Rudy!”

He whines and trots into the bedroom, jumping up onto the foot of the bed and cocking his head at me, one ear flopping to the side while the other stands up straight like it always does, as if to ask why I wouldn’t want to wake up to his barking at six in the morning on a Saturday.

Now that he’s quiet though, it becomes obvious that the rumbling sound wasn’t only in my dream.

“Mother fucking god damn shithead,” I grumble, throwing my blankets back and tear out of bed with my jaw set and my hand already forming into a fist. Rudy gives an excited bark, jumping off the bed and trotting after me.

Two months. That dickhead has lived next door for two months and I swear to god he has made it his mission to find a new way to piss me off nearly every day. I stomp through the kitchen towards the backdoor, flinging it open and stepping out onto my back deck, not bothering with the fact that I’m not wearing anything besides my boxers.

Sure enough, he’s out there mowing his lawn like it’s a thing to do at such an ungodly hour. Last weekend he was using a buzz saw, the one before that it was a leaf blower. Never mind the fact that it’s goddamn July and all the motherfucking leaves are still on the cock sucking trees.

Okay, maybe I’m a little moody before my coffee, but it’s justified. I wouldn’t be surprised if I woke up next weekend to find him using a jackhammer to tear up his entire driveway just to piss me off.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I roar. Of course, he doesn’t hear me over the noise of his lawnmower. “Hey, Asshole!” I shout again, waving my arms in hope of catching his attention.

After a minute he looks in my direction, a cocky grin spreading over those full, irritating lips of his. The sound of the lawn mower cuts off and he waves at me.

“Howdy neighbor. How are you this morning?”

“I swear to all that is holy, if you don’t knock it off, I’m going to dig a hole in my backyard and bury you alive.”

About The Author

FB_IMG_1588209828063

K.M. Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together.

She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series.

When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.

Beth Poole’s got the wrong ticket to the right life…

English dog trainer Beth Poole is having trouble getting her life back together after beating a life-threatening illness and divorcing her husband. When her Aussie-soap-obsessed grandma sends her to Australia to recover, it seems a great opportunity for some rest and relaxation while she figures out what’s next.

But when Beth arrives in Australia things get off to a rocky start. To begin with, she’s on the wrong coast and there are deadly creatures everywhere. And if that weren’t enough, her neighbors are driving her crazy. She’s staying in the beautiful Margaret River wine region, right next door to a family-owned vineyard.

It should be perfect, but the boisterous Hardy clan just don’t seem able to leave her alone. The usually reserved Beth is soon reluctantly embroiled in their family disputes and romantic entanglements. And eldest son Clayton Hardy is proving surprisingly persistent.

The more Beth gets to know Clayton, the more she sees what she wants for her future. But as the end of summer approaches, her past comes back to haunt her and tests her newfound relationship with Clayton to the limit.

“Do you . . . do you want to come in for another bad coffee?” she asked abruptly, her voice uncharacteristically loud in the night silence.

“Ah. Beth. Normally yeah, but I have to get back to help clean up,” Clayton replied gruffly, appearing genuinely regretful. “I’d love to but—”

“It would be the euphemism sort,” Beth blurted, her voice still unnaturally loud. “Sex coffee. No, sex not coffee. Hopefully not bad.”

Clayton’s eyes widened. “Come again?”

“Sex?” The word was a sort of squeak. “There’s, ah, there’s something I want to talk to you about first, but after that . . . if you still want to, definitely sex.” The painful heat of embarrassment burned a fiery trail from her toes to the roots of her hair. It burned even hotter when Clayton didn’t reply. Silence filled the car while he stared at her in the dark.

“Or we could just have bad coffee?” she amended weakly.

Clayton cleared his throat loudly. “No. No. Sex would be great.”

“Oh. Really? Alright. Good.” She quickly opened her door before Clayton could do it for her and scrambled out of the Jeep. She didn’t want to be that close to him yet. Not until they’d talked about things. Without looking back she scampered around the cottage and frantically searched in her handbag for her key, only managing to get the door open and the lights on when two large warm hands firmly grasped her hips from behind.

He’s Mr. Right Now, but for how long?

And after an innocent mix-up leads to the former Hollywood hottie playing the role of Russ’s date, Russ thinks scoring Esteban as his fake boyfriend is a huge win. The newly discharged marine is healing inside and out and could use some holiday cheer.

For his part, Esteban is intrigued by his big, bad neighbor. He likes how his matchmaking cat brings out an unexpected caring side of Russ. Desire flares as the reasons to continue their ruse pile up for both men.

And pretending feels so good. From chocolaty kisses to late night cuddles, their burgeoning friendship is getting cozier and cozier. But as the end date for their little deception looms, all the real feelings they’ve tried to ignore come tumbling in. “Russ!” A very tall, very pregnant woman engulfed the big guy in a hug. But right as Esteban was about to slip away, she locked her gaze on him. “Oh! And this must be the new guy! We’re so delighted to meet you.”

“Yes, we’re so happy for Russ,” an older, elegant woman with cropped hair added.

Russ looked utterly miserable standing behind the women, expression stricken, like Esteban’s nephews after hearing one too many siguanaba monster stories.

Hell. Russ apparently hadn’t told them about the breakup. And now he had to come clean, which would undoubtedly cast a shadow over the gathering and make Russ’s predicament the center of attention. That had to be the last thing Russ wanted.

Esteban’s stomach churned unhappily in sympathy. If Esteban had figured out one thing about Russ in their time in the kitchen, it was that he was way more comfortable talking about others than himself. He wished there was some way to spare Russ the humiliation.

Wait. They don’t even know his name. Wasn’t that what Russ had said about his ex?

Esteban tried to catch Russ’s eyes. Should I pretend? Want me to?

He’d never had a blockbuster role, but Esteban wasn’t some scenery chewer either. He could still act, spare a nice guy a little awkwardness, and maybe ease his holiday burden. That earlier moment when Russ had talked about leaving the marines still lingered in Esteban’s brain. He understood all too well that change was hard. And Russ had surely been through enough of it.

Esteban’s unspoken question seemed to hang between them for an eternity. Russ’s nose wrinkled as his mouth twisted. Then he gave an almost imperceptible nod.

“Russ, aren’t you going to introduce us to your boyfriend?” the tall woman, who had to be Judy, prompted while her husband juggled both a pie and the toddler.

“This is…uh…” Russ looked like he’d rather be auditioning for a hemorrhoid cream ad rather than deal with his family. He was back to the dejected guy he’d been when Esteban had met up with him at the dumpster. And that just wouldn’t do.

“Esteban. Or you can just call me the boyfriend. I’m easy.” With a wink, he stuck out a hand for Judy. He could do this, could act the part, and remove that air of failure from Russ’s otherwise impressive self.

Russ’s jaw had fallen open wide enough to land a 747. “Yeah…”

Roll with it, Esteban tried to tell him with a quick smile his direction.

“And you’re charming. Rusty, you didn’t tell me he was charming.”

“I didn’t know.” The grateful wonder in Russ’s tone was enough to convince Esteban that this was worth a few hours of pro-bono acting.

“What do you mean you didn’t know? You big goof.” Judy lightly docked her brother’s shoulder. She then shook Esteban’s hand, and introduced, her husband, Bob, and his mother, Connie, and the toddler, Benny.

“Here, let me take the pie,” Esteban offered. “Russ, you can help with their coats?”

“Yeah.” Russ continued to sound delightfully befuddled. As Esteban passed with the pie, Russ lowered his voice and asked, “What did you get yourself into?”

“Nothing I can’t handle.” And as he took the pie to the kitchen, he could only hope he wasn’t lying.
