My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Gorgeous illustrations perfectly capture the very sweet nature of the novel which lies within the pages.
This really is a lovely fantasy where there is only a small amount of angst which is mostly over before the real narrative begins.
While there is an element of insta love in the way Maxim falls for Jaime, it didn’t really bother me as this is a world of magic where griffons fly free in the skies and a prince is free to give his heart to an apprentice healer with a great gift.
I loved the setting, the richly drawn world and the rest of the secondary characters, particularly the old King and Maxim’s siblings, as well as Cook and the healers who help Jaime navigate his way into a new life.
Looking forward to more in this series which is to be set in the same world but a different country.
