Geordie’s romance in all its unique glory made me a bit teary!

Leaning Into Forever (Leaning Into, #7)Leaning Into Forever by Lane Hayes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the moment he sashayed his way onto the page in the Leaning Into series, with his air of vulnerability and his dynamic personality and belting out showtunes, I’ve wanted Geordie’s story.

And now Lane has delivered me Geordie’s romance in all his unique glory, wrapped up in a most beautiful narrative which is so full of humour and hurt, grief and joy, passion and fear that it required two tissues to get through to the end!

I must admit, it can be daunting going into a book you’ve been waiting for, knowing that you need to find out if a beloved character is okay. But there was nothing to be worried about here because Levi is utterly perfect for Geordie.

So different from his lost love Mike, but with the same strength to recognise the hurt hiding behind the exuberant exterior Geordie presents to the world. Just as Mike wanted to take care of his younger lover, so too does Levi, although he himself is now the younger one.

He made me laugh so much as he brought Geordie out of his self-inflicted bubble of grief and loneliness with a pink Vespa and a mutual bonding over bad fonts.

It takes a while, but the steadfast assurances of the new restaurant owner, and his unwavering ability to just “be there” eventually wins the day. But not before I’d had a bit of a tear up when Geordie says his au revoir to Mike.

I have loved this series so much. Nick and Wes remain my favourite pair, but Birdie and his Levi are a very close second.

Synopsis

Nick Jorgensen is a quirky genius. He’s made a fortune in the competitive high tech field with his quick mind and attention to detail. He believes in hard work and trusting his gut.

And he believes in karma. It’s the only thing that makes sense. People are difficult, but numbers never lie. In the disastrous wake of a broken engagement to an investor’s daughter, Nick is more certain than ever he isn’t relationship material.

Wes Conrad owns a thriving winery in Napa Valley. The relaxed atmosphere is a welcome departure from his former career as a high-rolling businessman. Wes’s laid-back nature is laced with a fierceness that appeals to Nick. In spite of his best intention to steer clear of complications, Nick can’t fight his growing attraction to the sexy older man who seems to understand him.

Even the broken parts he doesn’t get himself. However, when Wes’s past collides with Nick’s present, both men will have to have to decide if they’re ready to lean into the ultimate fall.

Meet the Narrator

Nick J. Russo is an award winning narrator with a fan following for his work in fiction, specifically in the romance genre. His performances in two of Amy Lane’s books, Beneath the Stain and Christmas Kitsch, made him the recipient of Sinfully M/M Book Review’s Narrator of the Year – 2015.
When he’s not in the booth, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife, Jessica, and kids, (aka their beagle Frank and cat Stella), drumming in his cover band, exploring rural back roads with his wife on his motorcycle, or being enthralled in a tabletop role playing game with his friends.

BLURB

Ryan Haskell loves everything about the wine business. He’s fortunate to work at one of the most prestigious wineries in Napa Valley doing something he enjoys with the people who are like family to him. But he could do without the good-natured intern slash former jock with the wicked grin who always seems to be in the way. Ryan isn’t sure why the new guy is under his skin when everyone else loves him. Thankfully he’ll be gone after the holidays.

Danny Meyers can’t believe his luck when he lands an internship at Conrad Winery. It’s the perfect temporary gig to wrap up his graduate studies. He’s left his dreams of tennis stardom on the court to focus on a new career and a new life. However, he didn’t count on the spark of attraction he feels for his prickly co-worker. When their tentative friendship blossoms into something more than either man counted on, they may have to change direction and lean into a holiday wish.

Now, onto the interview!

Question One:

Lane, you clearly believe family and friends are important as evidenced by the way you create believable relationships between people in your books, what do think is key to writing a good “book relationship”, whether that be by blood or choice?

Great question. I’m fortunate to have positive relationships in my real life to base my book ones on. But no one experiences ever facet to a relationship so having keen powers of observation and a sense of empathy help too.

Question Two:

One of my favourite things to ask an author. If you’d written one of the novels considered to be a piece of “Classic Literature”, which one would it be, and why?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It’s the quintessential romance. Grudging attraction and a play on wits that ultimately leads them on a journey to discovering they’ve met their match. *sigh….

Question Three:

Following on from the above. Do you have a literary book character hero or heroine?
Elizabeth Bennett. 🙂

Question Four:

What makes Lane Hayes smile?

My husband and our children. My husband is one of the funniest and most “real” people I know. He makes me laugh every day. And our kids amaze me. There is something very special about watching three very different people grow into adults I admire and respect.

Question Five:

If you weren’t an author, did you have any other dream jobs you’d have liked to have given a try?

Being an author is my dream job! I’ve tried all sorts of other careers, from the mortgage business to interior decorating. Ultimately, my love of the books won! I figured I had to give it a shot. I wrote and published my first novel, Better Than Good, almost five years ago with Dreamspinner Press and I haven’t looked back. I love what I do!

Thank you so much for having me here today!
Happy Reading,
Lane Hayes xo
