Henley is off-limits for Levar. So why can’t he stay away?

Five years ago, Levar survived a terrorist attack. The bombing left its scars, but he’s picked up his life. He loves working for the vice president—who is openly bisexual—as his press secretary.

Levar can’t afford a pesky attraction that proves to be frustratingly stubborn. Worse, those highly combustible sparks are with the very last person he should be falling for: Henley Platt, a well-known reporter covering the White House.

Henley may not be Levar’s enemy, but he’s definitely not his friend. He can’t be, not when their jobs put them on opposite sides. Henley is absolutely off-limits, even when he shows his appreciation for the sexy lingerie Levar loves to wear.

When the terrorists strike again with a devastating blow to the White House, Levar and Henley lean on each other for support. The sparks become a raging fire that won’t be doused, but what happens if they’re found out?

Press is the first book in the White House Men series, a romantic suspense gay romance series set in the White House. Think The West Wing but gay, and with less politics. Each book has a new love story with a happily ever after, but the suspense plot will continue throughout the books, so the series needs to be read in order. Press has 100k words. TW for terrorism and violence.

“It never ceases to amaze me how tired you get from emotional effort. Sometimes even more than from physical exertion. I don’t get this exhausted from a thirty-minute spinning class, you know?” Henley said.

Levar took a quick look sideways. “You take spinning classes?”

Henley’s mouth pulled up in a grin. “The truthful answer is that I should have a hell of a lot more spinning classes than I manage, but about once a month, you’ll find me soaked in sweat in the spinning studio.”

“Attractive picture you’re painting there.”

“It’s really good for a tight ass,” Henley said, and Levar chuckled.

“If that was some backhanded way to get me to check out your ass, there’s no need. I’ve already seen it, checked it, and approved it.”

And they fell right back into this flirty banter that had quickly become their habit. What was it about Henley that made Levar forgo all his usual carefulness, his reserve at mixing work and pleasure? Henley got under his skin, somehow, and it amused and terrified Levar in equal measure.

Henley stopped walking, but Levar didn’t notice right away. When he did, he halted too, and Henley caught up with him. When Levar looked at him questioningly, Henley shrugged. “I had to return the favor, didn’t I?”

About The Author

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?

The short? You got it.

I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.

How was that?

A little more detail? Gotcha.

I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self-doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self-help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

A very solid opener to this new “West Wing” style series

55270009._SY475_Press by Nora Phoenix

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If I tell you that my number one TV show of all time is The West Wing, you can probably guess how excited I am for this series.

And Press is a great introduction to the crazy world that is working in the White House.

I have two minor concerns with this book though which I’m going to spoiler although they don’t reveal anything specific.

***SPOILER***

First is the choice of ‘bad guys’, which just felt to me personally a bit too “going with the stereotypical options” and reminds me of big Hollywood movies where the villain always has an English accent.

However, I am hopeful, given elements of the overall series plot which are revealed here, that it may turn out to not actually be as obviously the case. If so, then it will be a fantastically clever twist.

The second is a really tiny thing and more a me problem than the book itself and it concerns character names. When Henley calls Levar by a nickname, it instantly takes me to one of the slang words for a toilet here in the UK – not quite as sweet as the use would indicate because in my head, his name is pronounced La-va when I guess it should be sounded Lee-var  🤔

The other is Calix, Levar’s boss. His name just made me think of a kids scientific building system, which is again totally on me and I’m sure I’ll get over it.

***END***

So they were the only two things which popped me out of a narrative which is superbly paced, packed with great world building without a dumping of information and which has a realness to it which I’m really looking forward to seeing develop further.

Levar and Henley are a gorgeous pair. They’re scorching hot, the chemistry and connection between them flies off the page.

There’s also a fantastic set of secondary characters who are going to make up the rest of the series as I understand it and I’m very keen to see how Nora is going to pair them all up.

The main plot itself is intriguing, I love anything which hints of dodgy dealings in the corridors of power 😁

Very much itching to find out more as this series progresses.

Word-slinger. Purveyor of truth. Jaded heart.

By day, Felix Franklin is an investigative journalist. By night, he produces Sinister in Savannah, an investigative podcast, with his two best friends. Felix’s life revolves around three principles: fortune favors the bold, honesty is everything, and love is for schmucks.

The podcast is back to investigate allegations that a local businessman is dabbling in money laundering. On the surface, everything about Cameron Spencer, aka The Auto King, appears to be perfect. The trio of trouble quickly learns all that glitters is not gold. Seeking the truth will challenge Felix’s convictions and put his life in grave danger. The biggest threat to his well-being isn’t an unknown villain; it’s the reappearance of his first and only love.

Jude Arrow had it all: great looks, charming personality, and a lucrative career as Atlanta’s hottest news anchor. So, why had he recently relocated to Savannah? When the two reporters are forced to work together, Felix will get a chance to ask him. The answer will stun Felix until he remembers not to believe anything that comes out of the heartbreaker’s pretty mouth.

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin and just as conflicting as the battle of wills that ensues. Will the chip on Felix’s shoulder save him from trusting Mr. Wrong or ruin his chances with Mr. Perfect?

Sinister in Savannah series is a fictional podcast exploring the city’s most nefarious crimes with Southern-fried snark. The books explore friendship, love, loss, and the irrepressible human spirit. Mr. Perfect is book two of three. While each book is written about a different couple, the series should be read in order due to continuing storylines. Sinister in Savannah is an LGBT romantic suspense series with mature language and sexual content intended for adults eighteen and older.

Excerpt

Felix relaxed his grip and released Jude’s lapels. He took a step back, attempting to break the embrace, but Jude only tightened his fingers.

“Any harder and you’ll leave marks,” Felix warned in a teasing tone that contradicted the emotions riding him hard. There’s that damn phrase again.

Jude rubbed his nose along the sensitive flesh beneath Felix’s ear. “Good.”

Felix shivered and Jude chuckled.

“Less than four minutes,” Felix said.

Jude released Felix’s hips and headed for the same door Rocky had exited through. Felix waited a heartbeat before turning and following Jude. The corridor on the other side of the door was illuminated by cobalt blue diamond sconces on the wall and tape lighting in the same hue running along the edges of the floor. The club music piped through the hidden speakers was heavy on the bass. Excitement crackled and popped along his spine as Felix’s heart tried to match the tempo. They’d only made it a few feet before Jude stopped suddenly and shoved Felix against the wall.

“Why are you really here?” Jude asked.

Felix raised his chin and stared defiantly into Jude’s eyes. “The same reason you are.”

“Yeah?” Jude asked, pushing his knee between Felix’s legs until Jude’s thick thigh rested just under Felix’s taut balls. “You’re looking to fuck?”

“Someone who isn’t you,” Felix countered.
