Excerpt
Luka was confused when it came to Ryder. He’d never had a problem with Ryder per se. He just hadn’t understood how Felix could feel so connected to someone who was part of the same community that oppressed and hunted them. But now that he’d met him, he could tell Ryder wasn’t like other citizens.
That morning, when Ryder had walked into Felix’s apartment, it had taken everything inside him to not outwardly react to Ryder’s presence. The man was beautiful but in a rugged way. Felix was beautiful with his nearly elfin features and soft skin and smaller body. Ryder was pretty much the opposite, although his skin had been soft when he’d shaken the other man’s hand. And the little arcs of electricity that detonated against his flesh as they’d touched had been unsettling, to say the least.
He’d also had the strangest urges to reach out and offer Ryder physical comfort as they’d spent the morning planning. He’d hated seeing the other man struggle, and instead of feeling jealousy or envy when Felix had touched and caressed Ryder in an attempt to soothe him, he’d been glad Ryder had someone, and a little sad that he couldn’t do the same.
It was madness. He wasn’t a tactile person. He didn’t touch anyone unless he was completely comfortable with them and trusted them. Hell, he’d waited two years with Felix before moving from their first kiss to when they’d lost their virginities to each other. He trusted Felix with his life, had since he was a kid, but it had still taken time for him to be able to accept that Felix wanted his touch.
“It’s okay.” Felix gave Ryder’s arm a comforting squeeze. “We’re not going to let you down.”
“He’s right, man.” Zane nodded. “Rivers is going down today.”
“We’ve got this,” Luka added, his voice rough.
He really needed to get his head in the game and stop thinking about whatever the hell was going on with him when it came to Ryder. They had a job to do. Then all this would be over, and he could go back to his solitary life with his pack and Felix.
