Garrett delivers another special Christmas romance

63067051._SY475_Christmas On Firefly Hill by Garrett Leigh

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There is something special about a Garrett Leigh Christmas novella.

I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly makes them unique, but she always brings a touch of the realities of life to her books which make the feels so much more special.

Here we get a wonderful romance which has such a strong magical sense to it (not the sparkly dust fairy type but the kind of otherworldly connection one) that gives an almost hazy glow to the narrative which pretty much centres on life on Firefire Hill.

At the top of the hill is the rundown workshop where Remy drags his battered body and his dying Transit van full of the dregs of his life. At the bottom is the tiny cottage where fireman Logan lives, a part-time single dad to his twin sons Billy and Sam.

Their first meeting was a brief, but quite powerful encounter, at a summer festival when Logan was moonlighting as a fire marshall and Remy was one of the attractions.

Their eyes met during a fire dance and the sparks weren’t just flying from Remy’s poi (A pair of roughly arm-length chains with handles attached to one end, and bundle of wicking material on the other.)

Almost magnetically drawn to each other, they share an anonymous kiss under the moonlight before Logan is called away to deal with something else. Months pass and we catch up with Remy as he’s struggling following a pretty bad accident at another festival.

What follows is just a beautiful, soul-deep exploration of what makes two people fall in love. They each find something in the other that makes their life better. No changes are made to accommodate this, simply an expansion of friendship into trust, sexual attraction into love, loneliness into a family.

I loved everything about this book, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading, especially when I realised that Logan is Locke’s twin brother. You can find Locke in Garrett’s beyond epic Forgive Me Father book three of her Rebel Kings MC series.

I’ve already put in my request for Locke’s story 🤣

So if you like your romances with a touch of grit, with a sense of danger that’s always there because of Logan’s job, but with hope, happiness and a pair of boys who’ll steal away your heart, then don’t miss out on this one.

Q: What happens when a summer romance ends? A: The Book of Elis.

Two childhood friends reunite on vacation. Elis is a vain attention-seeker, yet Ieuan can’t help falling for him. Knowing the clock is ticking, Ieuan records their romance in his diary.

But Elis is full of surprises. Is there more to him than it seems? And, with Elis and Ieuan living on opposite sides of the world, can there ever be anything deeper between them?

I decided to write this last night after everyone had gone to bed. Elis had sneaked into my room so we could mess around in the dark. For the first time, he kissed me. In four days our holiday will be over, so I don’t have long left. I have to get it all down while it’s still happening; before I forget what it was like.

Ieuan couldn’t be less impressed by the self-obsessed Elis, who brags about his life in Australia and who seems desperate for the attention of a girl back home. But, stuck together in a Spanish villa, they are drawn into a steamy and surprisingly tender romance.

Once the holiday is over, Elis must go back to Brisbane and Ieuan to a rainy village north of Cardiff. Though they remain in touch, Ieuan’s expectations of Elis are low. He is unreliable and immature—soon he’ll tire of the novelty of their relationship and the distance keeping them apart.

Or so he thinks. Because Elis is full of surprises, and Ieuan has to decide how much of his heart he dares to trust him with.

Sunday, 14th July (evening)

We just got back. I am sitting on the bed in my old room at home and everything is quiet and flat. Dad is bumping around in the loft putting the cases away, Mum is downstairs ordering us a Chinese. I’m supposed to be unpacking or something, but really I came up here to write. I decided on the plane that I should keep this whatever-it-is going—diary, journal? I don’t know, both sound wrong to me. Reading it back now, I suppose it’s the usual story—a boy, a crush, etc. Was all this to be expected? Once we’d started messing around, I mean. We had a good time, so it must have been inevitable that I’d end up missing him now he’s no longer here.

Right?

Unless there really is something about Elis that I can’t get anywhere else… But I sort of don’t want that to be true. Elis is a few hundred miles away and getting further away all the time. I have to keep reminding myself that he lives in Brisbane, which is nine thousand miles from here, and that the cost of seeing each other again is so far out of my budget that he might as well live on the moon. I should close this doc I’m typing in and give it up as a bad job.

But the text he sent from the airport shows our story is not finished yet. So here I am, still writing it all down.

Don’t forget, he’d said. Send me one back. The photo that came with his message looks so good I can hardly describe it. I smiled all the way to the check-in desk—can a dick pic be romantic? It’s not just a dirty picture, you see—it’s proof of something we couldn’t quite say. He’d taken it in the main bathroom of the villa we’d all shared, my family and his, while he was getting ready to leave. The tiles on the wall behind him gave it away. And his faded red shorts—I wonder if he’s still wearing them now?

In the picture he’s sort of leaning back, sucking his stomach in, and there are three fingers resting lightly on his dick as if he’s paused mid-stroke. His hips are pressing forward towards the camera, towards me. His underwear is pulled down, trapped under his balls, and the button-fly of his shorts is falling open. I remember those shorts well, and I remember, too, the feeling of his cock hot in my throat. He fucking loved that—I don’t think anyone had sucked him that deep before. I did a lot of things that no one else had done to him before—no wonder he’s sending me pictures of his dick.

Can two very different men turn an intense holiday romance into lasting love?

Jude

I shoot my mouth off and hide behind my smile as I try—and fail—to fill the void inside. Nothing has felt right since I was medically discharged from the army. Can there be more to life than a dead-end job and meaningless hook-ups?

Kasper

I didn’t expect to win a Cuffd Destinations holiday, let alone meet a sexy guy who’s fun to be around. Jude doesn’t think he’s a Daddy, but I’m going to prove him wrong. Who knows what we might discover along the way?

***

Crazy Little Thing Cold Love is part of the Destination Daddies Season Two multi-author series. It features an emotionally scarred army veteran, a bubbly boy who sees the world in a unique way, summer snow, lots of steam, and a happy ending. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are so many destinations and Daddies to discover, why not grab them all?

Trigger warning for mentions of PTSD, flashbacks, and nightmares. It is a standalone story, but Jude appeared in His Boy to Cherish as a side character

I found a spare stool at the bar and ordered a drink. It took me about thirty seconds to notice I was sitting next to a muscly guy with blond hair and bright blue eyes. He had his back to the wall while nursing a tumbler of scotch on the rocks as he surveyed the room. He was Hollywood’s definition of gorgeous. Not that it would matter if he didn’t have a personality to match his roguish good looks and body builder-scale muscles. I hadn’t talked to him yet, which meant another twizzle stick was about to be mine.

“Hi,” I said, gesturing towards his lanyard. “I’m mint leaves, and you are…?”

“Light rum.”

Flashes of hot pink ignited at the edges of my vision, dominating the other colours already dancing there. The colour of his voice was beautiful, which was a good start.

“Really? That means that together, we’re a mojito.”

The man laughed. “I think we’re missing a few ingredients.” Vibrant pink swirled and undulated with the rhythm of his words.

“Maybe a mojito in potential?”

He laughed louder while I motioned to the barman.

“Light rum and mint leaves,” I told him.

He nodded, checked off our combination on a list, and gave us a twizzle stick. Twenty-four. I had more than hot-pink guy.

“How come you’re not mixing?” I asked.

“I’m talking to you, aren’t I?”

It was my turn to laugh. “Now you are, but you were alone when I came over.”

“I needed a breather.”

“Yeah, me too.” I turned around to face away from the bar and leant against it. I’m Kasper, by the way.” I held my hand out.

“Jude.”
