A spy prince needs a man who sees through his disguise.

Prince Benedict is not what he seems. His image as a lazy playboy is carefully constructed to hide the truth. Trained since childhood to become Rosavia’s top spy, he spends his life in disguise—and danger—to protect his country. Nobody sees the loneliness in his heart.

Felix Wright is a genius with four degrees, no real-world experience, and a top-secret job… and he’s never even been kissed. A lifetime of being alienated for his most valuable assets has left him reluctant to trust the charming prince who thrusts him into fieldwork for the very first time.

When the Crown Jewels are stolen two weeks before the royal ball, it’s their job to save the country’s reputation. Benedict helps Felix believe in himself, while Felix slowly coaxes the real prince out of hiding.

But can they find the jewels and rescue the most priceless treasures of all: each other?

Exclusive from Max & the Inspirations behind her Prince

How did you become a part of this project/world?
I was part of the creation of Men of Hidden Creek, so when I was approached about starting a new shared universe about a small European country, the offer coincided with my availability, and so I leaped at the chance.

Where did your story’s inspiration come from?
I took a lot of my inspiration from the cover. He looks very serious, doesn’t he? I wanted to build on why such a young prince looks like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, and since I like to write what I know – intelligence agencies – the fact that this prince was actually one of Rosavia’s top spies just clicked into place.

Of course, as we all know, an agent is nothing without his tools, and so creating his equal and yet very opposite seemed so obvious to me. And so grew the story of a highly trained secret agent and the prodigal genius who designs and makes those tools for him, and the way they butt heads when they’re forced to work together.

I think this is the best book I’ve written so far. Benedict and Felix are special to me. I hope they will be to you, too.

How did you create your Prince?
Benedict very much came to life for me when I sat down to write the prologue. By then I had worked out his past, how he came to be a spy while also being a high-profile member of the royal family. I’d researched European royal families and their ties to their countries’ militaries, so making Benedict secretly a spy while the whole country believed he was actually part of Rosavia’s army made sense to me.

But his personality – what that enormous responsibility and the intensive training had done to make him the young man he is today – really settled in when I began to write. All the little details came together to build this intensely competent agent whose life is kept secret even from his own brothers, and the sense of duty and yet aching loneliness that created in him shone right from the start.

Truth seeker. Promise keeper. Guarded heart.

By day, Jonah St. John is a criminal analyst for the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. By night, he produces Sinister in Savannah, an investigative podcast, with his two best friends. Jonah’s life revolves around three principles: a man’s word is his oath, friendships are priceless gifts, and love is for other people.

When the Sinister in Savannah team delves into the thirty-eight-year-old murder of a drag queen, they quickly discover that the story doesn’t end with the alleged killer’s confession in 1995. Continuing the investigation could have fatal consequences for Jonah and everyone he holds dear, including his irresistible intern.

To love is to lose: a lesson Jonah has learned the hard way. For a decade, he has embraced solitude as his penance for a past mistake. Then came Avery Bradford, a man whose warmth and sunshine infuses Jonah’s battered soul and challenges his resistance. Over the past eight months, Jonah has soared closer and closer to Avery’s flame until the thing he’s feared the most becomes the one he can’t live without.

The chill of danger merges with the heat of desire, forming a deadly superstorm. Will Jonah seek shelter or ride the lightning?

Sinister in Savannah series is a fictional podcast exploring the city’s most nefarious crimes with Southern-fried snark. The books explore friendship, love, loss, and the irrepressible human spirit. Ride the Lightning is book one of three.

While each book is written about a different couple, the series should be read in order. Sinister in Savannah is an LGBT romantic suspense series with mature language and sexual content intended for adults eighteen and older.

Excerpt

“Who is Dirty Harry?” Dakota asked.

“It’s a movie franchise starring Clint Eastwood. Mr. Ling just performed some of the iconic lines from it.”

“Never heard of him,” SWG said.

“Scott Eastwood’s dad,” Jonah explained.

Awareness sparked in Dakota’s blue eyes. “Oh, I know him.”

“He looks just like his dad,” Jonah said.

“Where’s your gun and badge?” Dakota questioned.

“He’s not that kind of cop,” Mr. Ling said as he rejoined them. He tapped his temples, and Dakota looked even more confused . “Uses brain to catch bad guys instead of a gun.”

Jonah could happily go the rest of his life without holding a gun, let alone shooting one.

“I’m a criminal intelligence analyst,” Jonah explained. “I have to take all the same training and certifications as the field agents, but my position doesn’t require me to carry a gun.”

“Brain is a weapon,” Mr. Ling said emphatically.

“So, you’re like a cyber cop?” Dakota asked.

Jonah wasn’t in the mood to correct the kid’s assumptions, so he said, “Something like that.”

Relationships aren’t rocket science. If they were, I might stand a chance of figuring one out.

Elijah

Saying I’ve had a crush on my best friend’s older brother, Pax, most of my life is like saying the big bang was just an explosion. It’s true, but I’m not sure that quite captures the essence of its true enormity.

I know he’s only hanging out with me because I’m new in town, and getting my PhD doesn’t leave me with much time to make friends. And even if it did, my strength is mathematics, not friend-making. What I don’t understand is why he kissed me…why he seems to want to keep kissing me. I don’t think my advanced physics knowledge is going to help me figure this one out. But I think for once I’m okay with not knowing, as long as Pax and I don’t know together.

Pax

He’s still the awkward Nerdlet I remember…he’s also probably the cutest, most tempting man I’ve laid eyes on. I know I should keep my hands off him, but this thing between us is like a force of nature. I want to be his first everything.

He says we’re nothing more than atoms crashing into each other. I’m no scientist, but I don’t think either of us are braced for the explosion.

Rocket Science is a stand-alone MM romance featuring an inexperienced nerd, a cocky player, and a satisfying HEA

Excerpt

Pax: How are you feeling this morning? I got the impression you aren’t normally much of a lush.

Elijah: Pretty sure I’m dying

Pax: That’s unfortunate. Try some aspirin and a glass of water, it may turn out to be a miracle cure 😉

Elijah: Ok, I’ll do that once I can move without wanting to puke again

Pax: Where do you live?

Elijah: Near campus, why?

Pax: Because I’m planning to stalk you, and it’ll be a lot easier if I get your address

My stomach gives a little flip at his teasing, my fingers hovering over the keys, my mind desperately trying to come up with something witty to say in return. I’m not delusional. I know my stupid little teenage crush isn’t going to come to anything, but it would be nice to have a friend out here in California. If I could somehow become the kind of person who knows the right things to say, who’s funny and confident, maybe Pax really would want to be my friend. But no matter how hard I wrack my aching brain, I can’t come up with anything funny to say in return, and the longer I wait the more awkward a reply will be. Instead, I just text him my address. Why he wants it, I can’t begin to guess.

It shows that the message was read, but he doesn’t respond, so after a few minutes I close my eyes and let myself fall back asleep.

The sound of my buzzer jolts me out of sleep sometime later. I search my sleep fuzzy brain, trying to remember if I ordered something from Amazon because I can’t imagine anyone other than UPS ringing my bell. Maybe someone else in the building forgot their key and randomly pressed my buzzer hoping I’d let them in. My head falls back onto my pillow, and I sigh tiredly, trying to decide if it’s worth it to get up to see who’s at the door. The buzzer sounds again, and I throw my blankets back and reluctantly get out of bed. I’m sure my hair is sticking up in every possible direction, and I’m not wearing anything aside from my t-shirt from last night and my boxers, but if it is UPS, I can just buzz them in and let them leave whatever it is I forgot that I ordered outside my apartment door until I can put some pants on.

I shuffle to the intercom and press the button.

“Who is it?” I ask.

“Delivery,” a falsetto voice answers, and I scrunch my brow.

“What kind of delivery?”

“You ordered acompanion.” The last word is said in a breathy, suggestive kind of way that has my face heating, even though there’s no one here to have heard it besides me.

“I, uh, I think you have the wrong apartment,” I stammer out.

“Isn’t this Elijah Cummings?” They ask, putting emphasis on my last name in a way that makes it sound untoward. Not like I didn’t get enough jokes about it in middle and high school, I don’t need a prostitute turning it into some sort of suggestive dirty talk.

“Yes, but I didn’tI’m notUm…” I don’t want to be rude, clearly this person’s wires got crossed. Maybe there’s another Elijah Cummings in the building, although even without sitting down to calculate the odds of that, I’d bet they’re astronomical.

“Einstein, I’m fucking with you,” Pax says, dropping the falsetto.

“Oh,” I say, my breath whooshing out with relief. I only have a few seconds of relief before I realize that Pax is at my apartment and I’m half naked.

About The Author

KM Neuhold Logo__.jpg

K.M. Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together.

She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series.

When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
