Excerpt

From Catching Kalen by Maya Nicole & Britt Andrews

His eyebrow lifted mimicking the corner of his mouth. “Monroe. And you are?” He sat back against the stool, cool as a cucumber, but there was something about him that made my heart race.

Annnnd that was ridiculous. He’d said like… three things to me, but it was really about the way he carried himself, like he could decimate a man with his brain or some shit. Fuck, the tequila was kicking in.

“Kalen,” I replied as the bartender put our drinks down. Monroe slipped her a bill, telling her to keep the change. He picked up his glass of whiskey and motioned for me to do the same.

“Well, Kalen. What should we toast to tonight? New adventures? Good times?” An emotion I couldn’t place flashed across his face, and I swallowed, my throat suddenly tight.

“All of the above,” I rasped, pushing my glass against his before throwing it back, shutting my eyes as the liquid burned going down.

As I opened my eyes, I brought my glass down, and a little drop of liquor slid down my chin.

Monroe’s eyes tracked its path, and before I could lift my hand to wipe it away, his thumb swiped it off my warm skin.

I sat there frozen. What the hell was that? Blinking, I glanced around the bar, but nobody was paying any attention to the man who just wiped tequila off of my face with his thumb.

Since I was a glutton for punishment, I looked over at him. He was smirking at me. Smirking. All I could do was stare in fascination as he took the thumb that was still wet and popped it into his mouth.

Jesus Christ. My cock twitched in my jeans. I didn’t know what was happening, but I felt really hot and confused… and hot. I needed to get out of there.

This charity anthology really is a treat for the festive season

Gifts for the Season 400x600Gifts for the Season: Winter & Christmas MM Charity Anthology by R.J. Scott, Annabeth Albert, Joanna Chambers, Eli Easton, Suki FleetLane HayesAnnabelle Jacobs, Alex JaneAmber KellGarrett LeighV.L. LoceyClare London, Posy Roberts, Felice StevensA.E. Via

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an absolute delight this anthology is.

It’s rare to get an anthology or collection where you’re going to love all the stories, but this one just did that.

There wasn’t one I didn’t enjoy, even if some I hadn’t read the series they were linked to (like Amber Kell, Suki Fleet, or Alex Jane’s) meant I was missing a bit of additional info.

Posy Roberts’ is the only one which isn’t a complete tale, instead it acts as an intro for a series from her.

Quite a few of the authors went for wee peeks into the lives of some of their previous characters like Annabeth Albert, Felice Stevens, Lane Hayes, and Garrett Leigh.

And some wrote completely new short snippets of love which were fully wrapped up like the most perfect of Christmas presents like Annabelle Jacobs, V.L. Locey and RJ Scott.

I fell in love totally with the guys in Clare London’s offering, which was just wonderfully sweet with a delivery driver finding happiness at the end of a fire escape.

And a similar ‘delivery man falls in love with the parcel recipient’ theme was also chosen by Eli Easton for her current contemporary romance.

Joanna Chambers provides the only historical entry, a truly wonderful encounter between a maimed cavalry officer and the slightly younger son of his mother’s best friend set shortly after the final battle in the Peninsula War.

And A.E. Via gave me two lonely hearts making a perfect connection.

If you’ve not bought this collection yet, I would highly recommend it.

Not only do you get 15 beautifully written festive season romances, but every penny goes towards a most worthy cause, raising money for The Trevor Project.

Bravo to RJ Scott for organising the anthology and a massive thanks to all the authors who offered up these delightful examples of love in a multitude of ways.

#ARC kindly received from the authors in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Once upon a time, a bunch of authors wondered… What if a dating app that guaranteed you a love match broke down just in time for Valentine’s Day? What if you found yourself on a blind date with a random guy who might be your opposite in every single way? It could be a disaster. Or… When the code breaks down, fate just might take over.

Eleven of your favorite gay romance authors have joined forces to light up your Valentine’s Day with a collection of sweet, sexy, silly, and hot short stories, featuring a wacky cast of characters chosen from your reader suggestions! Morticians and magicians, superheroes and spies, lawyers and lobstermen, will all learn that love has nothing to do with algorithms… and sometimes you find it in the least-likely places.

And the best part? All proceeds from this collection will go to the authors’ favorite LGBTQ charities, to ensure that love in all its incarnations will be celebrated and protected every single day of the year!

It will only be available for 90 days, so Tuesday, May 8th will be the last time you can purchase this anthology.

Lucy Lennox | Title: The Uber Driver and The Phone Sex Operator

Can you tell us a little bit about your characters?

Azrael is a young dance instructor who also has a side job as a phone sex operator to make ends meet. His two jobs are a complete secret from his conservative politician father who thinks Az is in law school. Travis is temporarily taking his brother’s place as an Uber driver. Since the brother is deaf, Travis pretends to be deaf. He’s not. Hijinks ensue.

Was writing this story easy for you to do? Or was it a little bit outside of your normal writing zone?

It was VERY difficult for me for some reason. I wrote many, many iterations of this story, but they kept leaning toward dark and serious. If there was one thing I knew, it was that a phone sex operator and Uber driver together was the recipe for fun, not darkness.

The characters you had to choose from were reader’s submissions, correct? Were there any other characters you considered writing about before you chose this couple?

Tons. But I have a terrible memory. So… nope!

What were some of the reader submissions that stood out to you, and why?

Um… ahem. Can’t remember. For sure the Uber driver and phone sex operator…

How did you come to be involved in the Heart2Heart Anthology?

Leslie was the brain child of this project and she is my Beloved Beta Reader and trusty assistant. She invited me to participate.

Since the anthology is only available for a limited time, (90 days) do you have any plans for your story after that?

I will offer it to readers either on Amazon or through my website.

Have you ever been involved in a group project like this before? What were some of the challenges you had to face?

No. But everyone has been wonderful and Leslie has done a tremendous job.

What do you think of the line-up of authors? How does it feel to be in such great company?

It’s a great group of authors! I think there will be a little something in this collection for everyone.

Is this something you’d like to be a part of again in the future?

Absolutely. The set-up was super fun, and I can’t wait to see what we come up with next.

Other than your own, do you have a favorite story (or two) in the anthology?

I haven’t had a chance to read them all yet! Ask me again in a week.

You’re donating the entire proceeds to charity – can you tell us more about where the money is going?

I adore The Trevor Project as it is specifically geared toward protecting LGBTQ youth. My book Delivering Dante discusses conversion therapy and the dangers LGBTQ youth face when they come out to an unsupportive community.

Thankfully programs like The Trevor Project are specifically working to reduce youth suicide by offering support to young people who don’t have it in their own communities.

The anthology also benefits the Bisexual Resource Center which helps create a community of inclusion as well as raising public awareness of bisexuality.

Finally, the anthology benefits one-n-ten which is also geared toward helping youth with education and employment, health and wellness, homelessness and housing, and social support and leadership. We are thrilled to help all three of these organizations in their missions.

Have you ever been set up on a blind date? If yes, how did it turn out?

No, never.

Have you ever set someone else up on a blind date? If yes, how did it turn out?

 Nope

If Heart2Heart were to match you with someone, who do you think you’d get paired with?

Someone who loved to party and go out all the time. The kind of person who’d want to ring in the New Year at Times Square. Yikes!

Is there anything else that you think would be fun to talk about?

Politics. I hear that’s always a good topic of conversation to get a party started. No?

EXCERPT

The kiss was full of teasing exploration. My hands stayed on his face as his landed on my chest and clutched at my clothes. Az’s skin was smooth as though he’d just shaved, and I ran my fingers down his slender throat and across to his shoulders. Little hums and sighs escaped him as I began to press into his mouth with my tongue.

I moved my kisses to his neck and down into his collar. Az’s fingers looped into my jeans and pulled our hips closer together until I felt how hard he was against my own stiff length. The feel of him, the sweet taste of him, the faded smell of soap on his skin and the moans coming from his throat were enough to drive me out of my damned mind.

“Good?” I mumbled against his collarbone as I ran my hands under his shirt to his back. His skin was warm and soft, the muscles shifting under the pads of my fingers.

“Mm-hm,” he said, not moving from the spot where he stood.

I pulled back and looked at him with a grin. He was kiss-drunk and glassy-eyed. Red lips shined plumply from my nibbles and his chest heaved with rapid breaths. “Can I come in, Azrael?”

His gaze fluttered to the still-open door behind me. “Uh-huh.”

I bit the tip of my tongue to keep from smiling wildly. I felt euphoric. Kissing him and putting my hands on his body were already ten times better than I’d imagined.

And I’d imagined.

I’d abused my body all night long with thoughts of a naked Azrael writhing underneath me as I pressed into his virginal body. Every time I’d thought about it, my cock had filled to painful, pulsing need until I’d taken matters into my own hands. I’d finally had to force myself to stop for fear I’d hurt my dick and be unable to perform if and when Azrael actually contacted me.

After nudging the door closed with my foot, I kicked off my shoes and began moving us toward the bed, all without taking my arms from around his waist. We resumed kissing for the few steps it took us to get there before I felt him stop as the back of his legs hit the bed.

I ran my hands down his back to his muscular dancer’s ass and squeezed.

“Fuck, you have a nice ass,” I murmured against his temple before I pulled back to look at him. “Can I take off your clothes, Az?”
