A mixed bag for this pony play BDSM romance

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So, like with book one, there were bits I really liked and times when I was very frustrated with this book.

Owen is an utter charmer, he’s delightful, secure in knowing the kind of Domination he wants and perfectly willing to stretch his comfort boundaries.

Kamal is more of an enigma and was one of my biggest frustration points. We don’t get his POV, only Owen’s, and I wasn’t given enough information to get any kind of reading on him at all, other than surface level.

He’s a ponyboy trainer, he likes to Dominate, he’s Muslim (but again that seemed only as a nod to him being an unusual ethnicity for a BDSM Dom because “religion”) rather than having any actual bearing on the plot narrative.

The ending, like book one, felt rushed and overly sudden.

There is so much made during the whole book about how the trainers can’t get into a sexual relationship with the ponyboys – although they can physically bring them to orgasm during training etc – but then when that obstacle is resolved by the end of the book, we still don’t get a scene of them having sex together.

That seriously irritated me. It was made such a big deal out of that Kamal is fighting his attraction to Owen and he’s making him almost break the rule and he wants to f*ck and then we don’t get it at all. Big fail for me, sorry.

I did think there was a bit of contradiction about how the ranch was founded versus what was said in book one. That may be a case of the anonymous ranch owner (mentioned in book one) just handing it over to Andrew and Kamal to establish. The way it read here was that the ranch was theirs.

However, there were also some great bits. The ponyplay, as in book one, is exceptionally well done, as was the brief switch into puppy play. The sense of place is also done well, the ranch and its setting is very easy to visualise, as are the other ponyboys on site with Owen.

The ponyboy scenes are all intense, more so with Owen and Kamal as they do go deep into humiliation and objectification play, and I really loved the threesome with one of Kamal’s old friends who visits the ranch.

So, overall, a good read, but I slightly preferred the set-up of book one as I felt that narrative was more rounded out.

Cara Dee always leaves me “breathless” with her skill

Breathless ebookBreathless by Cara Dee

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve said it before, and will no doubt say it loads more times, but Cara Dee writes utterly superb kink.

Here she’s pushing all the boundaries in a Sado/masochistic triad which really holds no punches (pun absolutely intended) back in describing just how deep into the kink some people need to go to feel free.

Shay is a beautifully complex character, he’s bound tight in grief and survivor’s guilt, and while there’re echoes of similarly with Cole, Lucas and Kit, this triad is next level sadistic.

River and Reese absolutely fascinated me, I wanted to know everything about them, how they’d known they were sadists, why River’s kink was mental while Reese’s mixed Daddy care with brutality.

Together they were powerfully erotic, but also emotionally healing for Shay.

This book demonstrates beyond just the words how some people need BDSM to free themselves from the trials of life, anxieties, worries and misplaced emotions which can be damaging if left to fester.

I loved reading these three totally changing their lives to accommodate new feelings and new desires.

This series is shaping up to be an absolute classic.

Release Blitz: Breathless by Cara Dee

Breathless | Cara Dee

The Game #3

Release Date: September 15th, 2020

Universal Link:

“Will you beat me without knowing the reason?”

That’s the question I ask when I go to clubs to seek out Sadists.

Most men say no immediately. They see the flags my question raises and walk away. They’re the good guys. They’re the guys who adhere to safe, sane, and consensual. They wanna be aware of the risks and cause no harm.

But I’m not looking for a good guy.

I’m looking for punishment.

The strobe lights hit me as I reach their table. The heavy, industrial music is deafening, and my head is swimming with images of grief, fire, and accusation. I hear the piercing tone of a machine letting me know that I have to tell my two kid brothers that our sister’s heart will never beat again.

Maybe these two twin Sadists will help me. The only thing bigger than River and Reese Tenley is their reputation. They better not let me down.

I ask my question. I ask if they’ll beat me without knowing why I want it.

They give me a stone-cold onceover, and I don’t know if it’s River or Reese who responds. He has a menacing-looking tattoo on his neck.

“Sure. It’s your funeral.”

“Tell us what pain you’re looking for.”

Oh, I could do that. I could definitely do that.

I sat down across from them and took out my lollipop, gesturing it between them. “Who’s River, and who’s Reese?”

Neck Tattoo was clearly the talker. “I’m Reese.”

Reese, all right. Christ, they were hot. Hotter up close.

“Do you recognize me?” I had to ask. No matter how “exclusive” they liked to call their own group of kinksters, they still had nearly 150 members.

Reese’s mouth twitched slightly. “We know who you are, Shay.”

Well, okay, then. I wasn’t gonna assume.

“I like severe impact and extreme degradation,” I said.

The other guy, River, seemed to find that amusing for some reason. It showed in his eyes, and he exchanged a glance with his brother.

No words, just a quick look.

Reese smirked faintly and eyed me. “If we had a nickel for every time we’ve heard a masochist say they want anything extreme… Most people don’t know severe pain.”

I wasn’t most people, and I wasn’t going to let myself be intimidated by their superior asshole behavior.

“Are you sure you’re not just looking for a bit of flogging?” Reese wondered.

“Are you sure you have a dick to go with that big-dick personality?” I asked in return.

He offered a full-fledged grin at that. Then he sat forward and rested his forearms on the table. “Tell you what. We’re not actually looking for a temporary plaything in the city. But if you’re interested in coming out to the house in Mclean so we can brutalize you the way we like, let us know.”

That word did something to me. It weighed heavier and carried a promise, because you didn’t throw it around for shits and giggles. They were serious.

I wanted to be brutalized for my failures.

About the Author

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
