Well that was an epic instalment in this fab paranormal series

TangledWarriors_Digital_500Tangled Warriors by Jocelynn Drake & Rinda Elliott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When the Fire Weaver Lucien Cummings first appeared it was obvious from the start he would be everything his element proclaims.

He’s prickly, he’s quick to temper, he’s gorgeous and he knows it and he’s certainly not willing to put up with the arrival of the Water Weaver Calder Saito.

Of course, Lucien isn’t willing to examine quite why Calder’s presence aggravates him so much but the rest of the Weavers – Grey in particular – are more than aware that it’s a spark of attraction flowing between the two.

When they run into Gio Russo in a bar it becomes blindingly clear to all that the reason for all the emotions flying between them is because they’re soul mates. They just needed their other one 😁

With Tangled Warriors Jocelynn and Rinda really lay down the heat. Lordy be, Fire and Water produce ALL THE STEAM! The three of them are so amazingly connected, it’s not just the sex, although that’s explosive, but they instantly click.

Gio buffers the antagonistic elements between the two Weavers but he’s not just there as a fill-in. He’s absolutely vital to their happiness and it becomes very obvious that he’s landed in a situation he doesn’t know what to do with because he’s been burnt by a poly relationship before.

There’s a lot of humour in this entry, even though the stakes are getting higher and higher as the pestilents have kidnapped the Air Weaver and the goddesses can’t track his location.

It’s probably got the most smexy times as well, but it fits into the narrative smoothly as the three men’s interactions provide the set up for a couple of encounters with the pestilents that really gets the adrenaline pumping.

Gio’s family are an absolute riot, I loved them so much, and as the series long story arc draws nearer its end, things really do kick up a gear. It’s all actions go for the final quarter of this book as the plot drives the Weavers and their mates into an all-out epic rescue of young Hale.

So now we’re down to just one book to come, I can’t wait for Hale’s story, he’s much younger than the other guys and seems to be quite lost. But he has a bit of a cheeky nature and I’m intrigued to find out who his unconventional mate is going to be!

Oh and to finally take down John and the rest of his alien pestilence invaders 😁

Excerpt

Their horses licked each other playfully.

Darcy’s voice rumbled. “We should get back before it pours.”

Bennet wholeheartedly agreed.

They didn’t make it.

The sky opened and they rode, laughing, through the downpour.

Shoeless and dripping on Darcy’s welcome mat, they peeled off layer after soaked layer and threw them into one big, horse-scented puddle on the floor. They were down to boxer briefs now. The thin material did nothing to conceal the swelling under it.

Laughter dissolved as awareness thickened around them. They’d seen one another half-naked before but this was different. This time, Bennet was aware how much they both liked what they saw. This time, Bennet knew Darcy wanted to touch him. Explore him. This time, Bennet was tempted.

Darcy swallowed. “You’re covered in goosebumps. You should, ah, warm yourself in the shower.”

A spell under cold water might have been more helpful; Bennet set the shower to lukewarm and made quick work of soaping himself, drying off with equal efficiency.

His hair dripped onto his shoulders as he stepped—once more wearing only his underwear—out of the bathroom.

Darcy approached, carrying a pile of clothes. He had slung on a dry T-shirt and dark shorts. It was so remarkably casual that Bennet stared at him as though he continued to wear nothing.

“Here. Something dry.”

Bennet blinked. The same jeans and blouse he’d borrowed last time. He fingered the material.

“You like bright colors,” Darcy said uncertainly. “Did I get it wrong?” He gestured to Bennet’s eyes. “I thought this one would look good. That you’d like it.”

It wasn’t exactly his style, but . . . He pictured Darcy rummaging through his children’s things, searching for something Bennet would like and feel comfortable in.

Right from the beginning, Darcy had tried.

He shook his head. “You got it right.” I’m sorry I didn’t appreciate your choice enough last time. “Thank you.”

Darcy nodded. “I, ah. Shower.”

Another wonderful entry in this new series from Sam and Fawkes.

57824061._SY475_Harvest Moon by Sam Burns & W.M. Fawkes

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This time the over-arcing plot moves along at a rapid pace, leading to something I hadn’t seen coming, but now it’s there, makes total sense (cryptic eh!)

For our romance, we get Claudia’s cousin Alexis’ story and he was a real sweetie. Very similar in temperament to his cousin, he’s another go-getter omega, even if he’s been waiting five years for Ridge to finish college and come home.

Now, one thing I will say here, I felt both characters read as older than their 23 years but, as they’re werewolves, I just put it down to them a species being generally more capable of dealing with the vagaries of life!

Through circumstances which made perfect narrative sense, both young men end up with the Grove pack and that’s where the main plot develops its – on the surface – surprising twist.

Ridge may come across as a slow thinker, but he’s actually pretty smart, especially when it comes to farming and how integral the provenance of the food shifters eat is to their way of life.

There’s a not-so-subtle message here in this book to the mass consumerism lifestyle which a lot of people have been kicking back against in recent years and one which I very much agree with. Local and unprocessed is far better than mass produced and shipped from across the world!

The romance is a mix of frustration and sweetness, as both men suffer from LackOfCommunicaton-itis which thankfully it isn’t allowed to linger for too long, and because of Ridge’s demisexuality.

However, once they have the talk, it’s straight to the barn for some extra special get to know you intimately time, very hot.

The rest of the Grove Pack pop in from time to time and there’s a few longer visits with Colt and Linden, as well as Claud and Birch, obviously.

This book also holds another surprise, which I very much appreciated, and we get a sneak into book three, which will be all about second chances and grovelling I suspect 😁
