Cameron Wants To Be A Hero Cover

Blurb

Lake: Did you get his number this time?
Cameron: Yes. But I’m not sure I should use it so soon.
Lake: What’s soon? Didn’t you last see him yesterday?
Cameron: I thought you’re meant to wait three days? Otherwise it looks desperate.
Lake: You are desperate.
Cameron: Thanks.
Lake: From everything you’ve told me, sounds like this could be something.
Cameron: You think?
Lake: Message him. Keep it sexy.

When it comes to romance books, Cameron Morland can always read between the lines. When it comes to real romance, he may need a dictionary.

Or Jane.

It’s Northanger Abbey, complete with a neo-gothic mansion and charming misunderstandings. But contemporary. And gay.

Holy hell, could Cameron flush any harder?

Twinkling eyes studied him. “‘While hiding from my own party, I was ambushed by a despicable English intruder, who snooped through my things and made the most scandalous move to waltz with me.’”

“Not what I’d say. Wrong, finally. How relieving.”

“Want to know what I hope you’ll write?”

“Go on, then.”

“I danced with a friendly man and indulged in titillating conversation. His quick wit and bountiful humor agree with me—I hope I bump into him again. Maybe chat more over coffee.”

“Maybe I would. But my journal is only for script ideas. For letting my imagination run wild.”

“I’m wrong again.” He stopped waltzing and palmed his forehead in mock disappointment. “A sub-par sleuth after all.”

Cameron’s chuckle was interrupted by a hair-wrecked, lip-reddened Lake barging into the office in stocking feet.

“Cameron, there you are. You wouldn’t have any spare socks, would you? Knightly accidentally tipped his red wine, and my feet caught the worst of it.”

They’d been balancing wine as they’d devoured each other’s faces? No surprise something spilled. “Why didn’t you have your boots on? No, wait—don’t answer that,” Cameron blurted as Lake began to color.

Henry donned a sympathetic wince as Lake displayed the stain. “On such nice Happy Socks. What a shame.”

Lake’s eyes flickered curiously from Henry to Cameron. “You like Happy Socks?”

Henry shoved up the leg of his jeans, revealing green socks printed with cute gargoyles. “All my socks are Happy ones. My sister bought me two pairs a few years ago and I’ve never looked back.”

Lake stared at Henry like he was his hero. “A man of good taste.”

“Thanks to my sister.”

“Have you checked out Cameron’s?”

Henry bit back a laugh. His glittering gaze slid over Cameron. “I’ve not yet had the honor.”

To his mortification, Lake reached out and unzipped his boot.

Henry eyed his sock thoughtfully. “Rainbow hearts. Socks can tell you a lot about a person, too.”

“Oh, my God,” Cameron said. “You guys are so—” He bit back ‘weird.’

“It makes gift-giving easy,” Lake added. “Everybody needs socks.”

Cameron sighed, perched on the couch, and removed his rainbow hearts. “Here, Lake. They’re yours.”

“But then you’ll have none.”

Henry joyfully removed his own shoes and peeled off his socks. “I come to your rescue.”

Cameron blinked at the offered gargoyle socks. “Now you have none.”

Henry grinned and leaned toward him, adopting a secretive whisper. “Now I have a reason to meet you again.”

READ MY REVIEW

Blurb

With the help of their ball-busting daughter, some questionable morals, and an important job to get done, Casey and Boone will steal you away to the grit and glitz of Las Vegas in this fast-paced romance.

I’m not supposed to do this job without Boone.

We may not share genes, but it’s been us against the world since his mom took me in as a toddler. The rowdy O’Sullivan boys who raised all the hell that Vegas could handle. Not that all my memories are wild and make my heart race. After all, I realized I was in love with the bastard at some point, so there’s been plenty of pathetic yearning and jealousy too.

Even so, it’s been him and me. Brothers, partners in crime, and, for the past six years, co-parents to an amazing little girl. But that’s another story. Right now, I gotta focus on the job our cousin gave us, and I need Boone by my side.

The problem is we haven’t really been on speaking terms for four years now.

This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books stand on their own, unless otherwise stated, and the reader can jump in wherever they want.

Excerpt

My phone rang in my pocket, and I was surprised to see my cousin’s number. We hadn’t talked in a while. “Darius, how the fuck are you?” I smiled. We didn’t share genes either; he was Boone’s biological cousin, but we came from families that picked up strays left and right. I’d once been a stray, just like Ace.

“I’m good, kid. All good,” he answered. “How’s Vegas?”

“Hot.” I eyed a guy walking past. “What can I do for you, cuz?”

“I have a job for you and Boone,” he told me. “Willow’s gonna send you all the information you need.” That would be his tech-savvy little sister. “Pretty straightforward—recon work, virtually no pay.”

I grinned. “My favorite kind. How’d you know?”

He chuckled. “When push comes to shove, it’s more of a favor, but there will be plenty of opportunities for you and Boone to collect a reward from our target.”

Color me intrigued. I knew Darius used to be a private military contractor, but he must’ve taken a break from retirement if he was calling me about a job.

“You can count me in,” I said. I trusted him, and I was always on the lookout for my next job. “Boone’s another matter. We haven’t been on speaking terms for the past four years.”

“Why the fuck not?” Darius demanded. “Shit was good when we saw each other last year.”

No—far from it. “We’re good at pretending when we have to, I guess.” I hated thinking about it. I hated being reminded of it. “I don’t wanna get into the details,” I said. “Long-ass story.”

“So we’ll save it for another time,” Darius said. “But you better patch shit up with him, kid, because I need you both on this. You’ll hear from Willow tonight.”

About The Author

cara

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.

Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Michelangelo Napolitano is a sweet bear of a guy, known in Dupont Circle as the singing mailman. He’s cute, funny, bold, impulsive, and light on his feet—one of which is often in his mouth.

There’s more Circle magic in this romantic comedy of blind dates, new love, and a whole lot of HEART.

Excerpt

George stood, holding the adjoining barstool for support. Wobbly, he went into the kitchen. Zac was there. He looked up from plating salads.

“Are you OK?” he asked.

“Great. There’s a reviewer here… from The Post.

“Oh. Well, that’s some news.”

“Yeah,” said George. “Jack and May made me drink some ouzo.”

“Yikes.” Zac’s eyes went wide. “That’s the real deal, George—imported. Much higher octane than the American stuff.”

“I know,” George said proudly, punctuated with a hiccup. “I can feel it.”

The door jingled from out front.

George threw his hands up. “And they just keep on coming.”

“Let me get you some water.”

Zac found a paper cup and made for the sink.

“George,” came a familiar accent from behind them. It was Mikey, peeking his head in the kitchen.

“Mikey!” George said, loudly. He turned with a little bow. “Welcome. Welcome to David’s”

Mikey entered with roses. “I wanted to congratulate you on the opening.”

George went to him, embracing him in an overzealous bear hug, smashing the bouquet between them. He lost his balance, falling backward. Mikey reached, dropping the flowers and George caught his hands, pulling him with him. They both went crashing into the kitchen island.

“Whoopsie-daisy!” said Mikey, chuckling. He bent down, retrieving the rose bundle, placing it on the island’s silver surface. George pulled him close.

“Mikey, my sweet, Italian brother. Thank you for the beautiful flowers. You’re such a gentleman.”

“It’s the least I could do, George. I just want you to know I’m here for you.”

George kissed him, their lips colliding sloppily. Mikey tried to withdraw and George squeezed him tighter, his hands moving up and cupping the back of his head, smashing their faces together, relishing the friction of his beard, the plush velvet of his sweet lips. Mikey caved into George’s embrace, pressing, pinning him up against the stainless steel counter. His tongue came out to play and George welcomed it with a chuckle.

When they separated, it was Mikey who looked drunk.

“Whoa,” he said. “Wasn’t expecting that. You taste like candy, George.”

“It’s the ouzo,” Zac said, returning with the cup of water. He handed it to George. “He’s nervous. May gave him a shot of ouzo.”

“Two,” George said, holding up matching fingers. “Big ones.”

“Opa!” Mikey said with a grin.

“Opa! Did I tell you that I have a low tolerance for alcohol, Zac?”

“No, but I can see that.” He returned to the salads.

Mikey whispered, “I’ll have to remember that next time I want to take advantage of you.”

“You already took advantage of me,” George said. “But that’s OK. I kinda liked it.”
