One night can change everything…

Jesse Sykes has lived far longer than his youthful appearance suggests. Becoming a vampire after tragedy struck seemed the only option when his soul was shattered, after all he’s no stranger to having to hide what he is from the rest of the world. But eternal life isn’t without problems or heartache.

With a good job and great friends, Ian Moreton’s life would be almost perfect—if only he wasn’t in love with his best friend. His feelings are unrequited, and in an effort to move on, he takes a chance on a one-night stand with the handsome stranger he meets in a bar.

Jesse knows the risks of becoming attached to a human, but with neither of them looking for anything serious, where’s the harm? At least, that’s what Jesse thinks until his chemistry with Ian proves off the charts.

A second hook-up solidifies their connection…and brings Jesse to his senses. He scrambles to protect Ian from danger, but it’s already too late.

With Ian unwittingly drawn into a world he knows nothing about, events are set in motion that will change both of their lives forever, and it’s up to Jesse to steer them safely through it.

Annabelle masters vampires as well as she does shifters

eWoundedSoul_Annabelle
Wounded Soul
by Annabelle Jacobs

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Annabelle wrote one of my favourite shifter series, the Regent’s Park Pack, now it looks like she’s just written one of my favourite vampire stories too.

I love paranormal, it’s top of my tree alongside fantasy and Sci-Fi, so finding great books which make your heart pound and your stomach clench is a joy.

In this, the bad guy really is bad, there are real consequences for mixing the paranormal world with the human one and there’s the start of a love which literally changes lives.

Ian and Jessie were wonderful characters, but there’s also a great supporting cast that I’m desperate to know more about.

Two strong female characters who buck the stereotypical trend for a best friend, a world which doesn’t know that potential killers walk the streets anonymously.

Annabelle’s Bristol is a city of secrets and, while this book still feels mostly British, it has an edge to it which lets the reader experience the trepidation Ian and Cate feel when they get the confirmation that vampires do exist.

I loved everything about this book. I haven’t hated a bad guy quite as much for ages!

Lovely little undercover romance from Clare London

perf4.250x7.000.inddRomancing the Undercover Millionaire by Clare London

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I know some of my friends weren’t as keen on this one but I really enjoyed it. I haven’t read the other two in the series so perhaps that’s why, as I had nothing to compare against.

But I thought this was a super sweet undercover boss type romance between two people who were perfect for each other. Alex started off as a bit of spoiled directionless brat but I came to absolutely love him.

Once Alex was involved with the Somerton family, he turned into a completely different person, one who’d found his place and where he could bring real value outside of a monetary one. His slow assimilation into Tate’s life just worked perfectly for me.

Tate was a bit of a dilemma for me though, at times I really wasn’t keen on him at all, he seemed determined to self-sabotage the whole relationship and I got why he had fears because of his parents but even so!

I’m not sure the mystery/suspense element really worked as well as it could have done though, it was pretty obvious to me who the villain of the piece was fairly early on but I thought the takedown worked pretty well.

The family made this book for me, Gram, the twins, Amy and even Freddie the dog were just an absolute riot to read about.

There was a smashing Epilogue which Tate almost ruined and I felt quite sorry for poor Alex but I did honestly believe these two would get their Happy Ever After.

A change of pace with Mark’s sweet romance

38910362Guns n’ Boys: A Breath of Innocence by K.A. Merikan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Well, where to begin. I’m going to start with the end and the post credits scene and just say – wtf ladies! I don’t like the look of that and it seems like things are going to be heating up again soon.

Now, back to this actual story and oh my, I don’t think Mark and Griffin could have been any cuter if they tried. This really is a breath of innocence in the ever more murky world of Dom & Seth and the Mark we get here is almost like a new man.

He’s followed Charlotte back to the UK but finds something else way more important and real when he meets her brother. I loved the dynamics between these two.

Mark’s background and upbringing – and his experiences in the last book – have left him scarred but not bowed and he’s determined to make a fresh start with an honest job after his studies.

Griff’s 17 at the start, but his birthday follows quickly after the two meet, and he’s young and naive and sees the world through the veneer of a rich but somewhat lonely upbringing.

There’s the usual shocks galore but this one is missing the violence which is usually a hallmark of the series. That’s not to say there isn’t hurt aplenty and I wanted to hug them both many times (and punch Charlotte in the face a lot too!)

It was a different pace to the usual Guns n’ Boys but no less enjoyable an experience and I was rooting for them both as much as I do for Dom & Seth. And how beautiful is the cover?!
