Blurb

Archie’s posh parents want him to meet a nice girl–how can he tell them he’s fallen for a bad boy instead?

Closeted, innocent and lonely, Archie Arandale longs for someone special in his life. A Christmas party organised by his wealth management company is the last place he expects to meet the man of his dreams.

With his leather jacket, tattoos, and piercings, Cal Turner turns heads the moment he walks through the door. He definitely isn’t looking for a boyfriend, but Archie’s hesitant charm captures his attention, and sneaking off during the party to have a little fun can only make a dull evening more interesting.

After their reckless and thrilling encounter, Archie is keen for more experience and Cal is happy to oblige. The need for secrecy means this can only be a casual fling, yet as they spend time together in the run up to Christmas, their feelings become more intense than either of them had bargained for. How can Archie find the courage to tell his family about Cal, when Cal’s the exact opposite of the ‘nice girl’ they’ve been hoping for?

Contains: A closeted virgin, a tattooed biker, class differences, a dramatic coming out, a very inappropriate Christmas gift, and a happy ending (of course).

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. He self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press.

A Boyfriend for Christmas

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

There are so many bits of this book I want to quote but I won’t spoil the absolutely brilliant moments when they appear in the narrative.

For me, this is one of Jay’s funniest, and hottest, reads and I couldn’t put it down.

On first look, it might sound like your typical opposites attract romance but it’s so much more than that.

Cal is totally my type, dark, tattooed and a biker in leathers. But Archie caught me hook, line and sinker, just like he did Cal.

There are some true gems in this book, from Cal’s best mate Danny to the lovely Fiona, who Archie’s mother is throwing at him when our two heroes first meet.

The pacing is unhurried, the chemistry off the charts and the tensions arise naturally from within the plot.

Definitely one of my favourites from Jay.

Mud, sweat, and reluctant romance. Can Aiden and Matt sort out their feelings before race day?

When Aiden agrees to run the Mad Mucker—a twelve-mile muddy slog over an obstacle course—he’s expecting it to be a bit of a laugh. The training will be tough, but Aiden could use the motivation to regain some fitness.

Matt is the sexy cousin of one of Aiden’s coworkers and a last-minute addition to the team. When he agrees to train with Aiden, Aiden suddenly finds the prospect of regular workouts a lot more appealing.

Soon attraction flares, and they embark on an intense physical relationship. Matt doesn’t want to fall in love with a man, and Aiden doesn’t want to fall in love at all, but despite their insistence on no strings, they grow closer.

As the day of the race approaches, time is running out for them to work out how they feel about each other.

My second read reminded me how much I liked this British romance

NothingVenturedNothing Ventured by Jay Northcote

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Re-reading as it is being re-released with a new cover.

Second reading: I’d forgotten how much I liked this very British romance from Jay.

Centred around a team of work colleagues taking part in the insanity of the Mad Mucker, it had all the hallmarks of this author – a Bristol setting, a sense of humour, two characters with real human frailties and strengths.

I loved that Aiden wasn’t perfect, although Matt was approaching that with his personal trainer lifestyle.

I loved that they started out as teammates, then friends before moving into a friends with benefits status and developing ‘feelings’.

The outcome was one which felt totally worked for and I totally believed in their HEA.
