A simply beautiful tale of love

Of Sunlight and Stardust CoverOf Sunlight and Stardust by Christina Lee & Riley Hart

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

NOTE: This doesn’t contain spoilers directly but may influence your direction of reading so I shall hide it behind a tag and try to make it harder to read my words.

**SPOILER**

I didn’t want it to, I hoped with all hope that it wouldn’t, but truthfully there really wasn’t anywhere else it could have gone and still evoked the same reaction.

**END SPOILER**

The beauty of this book, from these two amazing writers who produce magic in their own right but whose collaborations take things into the stratosphere, was that even knowing where the narrative was likely to go, I devoured it.

Cole and Tanner are such incredible characters who burst from the pages, but Charlie and Tom, and their steadfast friend Paige, were just as brilliantly drawn.

**SPOILER**

My heart aches from reading this book, it’s a bittersweet pain which mixes in with the joy that, while times have changed in so many beneficial ways, we still have such a long way to go until events like those chronicled here become nothing more than a memory, a way to create tension in a fictional setting.

**END SPOILER**

Christina, Riley, once again as a pair you have created a tale of love which has depth and so many layers to it, and which is about so much more than just the people in it.

Synopsis

What if you had everything in the world you wanted…except the man you never knew you needed?

Shaw Jennings, the seductive, enigmatic owner of Body Electric Tattoo works hard and plays even harder. He’s built a life he’s proud of, and though that doesn’t include a significant other, he’s got plenty of sexy men to keep his bed warm at night. None of them have ever made Shaw sit up and take notice for long, though. But that all changes when a famous rock star walks through his door.

Trent Knox had the world in the palm of his hand as the lead singer of TBD, one of the biggest rock bands in history…until the day he walked away. A getaway to South Haven Island seems like the perfect place for Trent to find himself again and reignite his passion for music. But what he never expects is to find his muse in a six-five, tatted-up badass whose sinful smile he can’t get out of his mind.

The only problem? Trent’s a notorious womanizer, and Shaw isn’t interested in being someone’s experiment—muse or otherwise. But in a town as small as this one, Shaw is finding it more and more difficult to keep the persistent rocker at arm’s length.

As the tension between them builds, maybe it’s time to finally give in and get carried away with something a little bit like…desire.

Lucky Tyler Holloway has never felt particularly lucky. Frankly, he’s about as regular as can be. He works construction with his brothers, loves his small-town life, and shares a close bond with his family—especially his grandmother. Okay, so maybe he has a few secrets in his closet, like his bisexuality…and that other thing he doesn’t talk about… Maybe that’s why he’s always felt a little like an outsider.

Grayson St. Claire has it all: a dream job in LA, money, freedom. Saint has no attachments, which is just the way he likes it. Still, he’d be lying if he didn’t admit he missed his deceased parents who were the only family he had… Until he gets an e-mail from some guy named Tyler revealing the existence of a grandmother he’s never met, and prompting Saint to drop everything to drive across the country.

Saint and Tyler couldn’t be more different. Tyler hates the guy on sight, but there’s something about Tyler that gets under Saint’s skin. It’s not until they get to know one another that everything begins to change.

But the Holloways and St. Claire’s have secrets, and their pasts are tied together in tragic ways they don’t know about. The odds are stacked against them and between their distance and their differences, Lucky and Saint have to admit that love alone might not be enough.

EXCERPT

Fuck. He really hated Sienna right now. But the truth was, Tyler was attracted to Saint, and he sort of hated himself for it. Saint represented everything that annoyed the shit out of Tyler. He was arrogant and full of himself. He had money, and he wanted everyone to know it. He obviously had a grudge against or didn’t understand small-town life. They were too different, so the attraction didn’t make much sense. You don’t have to know or like someone to think they’re sexy. Ugh. Truth.

He shifted uncomfortably. “You’re crazy. I don’t even like the guy.”

“And?” Sienna asked. “Since when do we have to like someone to be attracted to them? I know you’re Mr. Nice Guy, but hate sex is some of the best sex you can have. Billy and I—”

“Can you not?” Tyler cut her off. “I don’t want to hear any more about your sex life with Billy, and there’s no chance I’d have sex with Saint—hate sex or not.” Jesus, were they really going to do this? “Plus…even if I wanted to have sex with him—which again, I don’t—I’m not into fucking someone I don’t like, especially the first time I’m with a man, and I’m sure he’s straight anyway.” Just like everyone assumed Tyler was straight…and he had himself until he’d admitted the attractions he’d felt.

He couldn’t believe he was having this conversation. He wanted to go back to before he’d admitted to Sienna he thought he might be bi. Well, he was pretty sure he was obviously bi. But it just felt…strange to have this conversation with her. To discuss his sexuality, which he was still working through himself, a sexuality he hadn’t yet explored outside of a kiss. How in the world did someone know if another man was gay or bi anyway? Hell, the man who kissed him had done it without any confirmation from Tyler. How had he known it wasn’t a quick way to get his ass beat—or worse?

Sienna reached over and patted his thigh. “Oh, my dear, sweet friend. You are so innocent sometimes. He was totally checking you out.”

“He was?” slipped out before Tyler could hold it back. “I mean, I don’t care if he was. I’m not interested. This isn’t a game to me, Si.”

She sighed, and he could see the guilt in her eyes. “You think I don’t know that? I want you to have every experience, though.” She moved the bowl from between them and leaned against his side. Tyler wrapped his arm around her, Sienna’s head in the crook. “I’m sorry. I know I’m a little much sometimes. I definitely don’t want to push away the one person who always stays. I don’t know what I’d ever do without you.”

“Hey.” He tilted her head toward him. “I’m not the only one who stays, and I’d never leave you. I hope you’re not talking about Billy either. You walked away from him, and you should have. That’s nothing on you.”

“I know. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.” She snuggled into him again, and he thought, not for the first time, how much easier life would be if he were in love with Sienna. Not just because she was a woman. There were other single women in town, and if he were interested, he could date them.

He had dated some of them, but he and Sienna had always gotten each other on a different level. They understood each other and cared about each other. They had fun together, but anything other than friendship wasn’t there between them. Not on Tyler’s side, nor hers.

“I don’t ever want anything to hold you back. You’re the best person I know. Why shouldn’t you have every experience possible? Why shouldn’t you know what it’s like to be with a man? And he’s sort of the perfect person because he’s leaving and he wants to jump your bones. I could see it.”

Riley Hart delivers another truly beautiful interracial romance

Something About YouSomething About You by Riley Hart

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is just a truly beautiful interracial romance. There’s little in the way of angst, it’s gentle and perfect for a read when you just want to see love happening between two people who weren’t expecting it.

It’s not ordinary though, Riley’s storytelling is too good for it to ever be that. There’s a secret love element, there’s an absolutely fabulous secret kink element that in not going to spoil but which is incredibly sexy and quite a turn on.

There’s an accepting family and a best friend who gives the best advice and there’s two men who are wonderful together when, on the face of it, they have nothing which should draw them together.

It’s not quite a frenemies to lovers romance but there is an element of that as Lucky and Saint get off on the wrong foot at the start. But both men slowly reach out and the friendship turns into something deep and lasting.

I loved pretty much everything about this book. There’s a couple of awesome Easter Egg appearances from some of Riley’s other book couples and I loved that. I might have squealed just a but when I realised who was in the diner and who the group of LA friends were 🙂

This is a book to be enjoyed as it really is just a gorgeous example of two people falling in love.

Rhoades

Loneliness. The pain doesn’t simply go away with time. It’s been years, and they tell me I need to move on. But I can’t.

Blame and regret are my constant companions. Until I see him in the spotlight and everything changes. Night after night, I watch him dance. Thinking about him.

What he’d feel like.

What he’d taste like.

And now that I know, I want him even more.

And maybe…just maybe, he might want me too.

But not yet.

Not before he knows he’s more than a pretty face. Not before he knows what he means to me. I need him by my side.

The two of us.

Together.

Austin

Why can’t I forget him? His hands touching me. His mouth on mine. Kissing me. Rendering me mindless.

Breathless.

Every night I lay awake burning for him. Dreaming. Thinking. Needing him.

No—I don’t. I don’t need anyone.

I lie.

I want him.

I want more. I am more. He’s seen that, and now here I stand with my dream on the horizon. All I need to do is take that first step. Trust him.

Trust myself.

Rhoades Teaser

EXCERPT

Fuck. I could kill Marcus. But I couldn’t refuse, and he knew it. Rhoades held me, but not too close, and after some initial hesitancy, I allowed myself to feel the music.

Rhoades’s breath touched my cheek, and I smelled the heat of the scotch he drank. It was like the night we kissed all over again, and I swayed, desire clawing at my insides. Why did being in close proximity to this man make me light-headed and restless?

“How are you?”

“Fine,” I managed to speak. The club had taken on a sensuous glow, and the people beside us faded to black. All I could see was Rhoades.

“So you work in a dance studio? I should’ve guessed by your dancing at Man Up that you had formal training. You move beautifully.”

“I’ve worked there for a while. We teach kids four-to-nine years old. I love it.”

“And is that what you’d like to do? Teach dance? I know you can’t want to dance at Man Up for long.”

“All these questions.” I shifted nervously. I wasn’t about to reveal my dream to him. He’d no doubt find it foolish—maybe even as stupid as my father had. “I thought we were just going to dance.”

“Very well.” He said nothing more, and we danced, our bodies brushing. His effect on me was magnetic, his touch a force pulling me in close. I concentrated on his face: the small lines fanning out from his eyes, the dark brows like wings, his firm mouth. The taste of his lips lingered on my tongue, as bright and pure as if we were kissing now. I found it impossible to be near Rhoades and not crave his touch. Somehow I’d moved closer to him, and our cheeks touched.

“I wondered if I’d see you again after you didn’t show up this past week. I didn’t think you came to these types of clubs.”

“Do you think of me, then?” His hand slid up my back and splayed between my shoulder blades. I didn’t mind that possessive touch.…I wanted it.

“I…”

“I think of you.” His whispered voice filled my ear with a roar. “After I left you last week, I stayed away like you asked, but I couldn’t sleep at night. Do you want to know why?”

I found myself nodding. We’d stopped dancing, though he continued to hold me, and we swayed together, caught up in our own world.

“I don’t know. Isn’t that crazy? You know I’ve watched you at James’s club. From the first, you caught me with your confidence—you owned the stage—but I also saw something yearning in you. That it wasn’t enough. You want more.”

His hands rested on my hips, and we stood chest-to-chest. The music played on, its sensuous beat rolling through me. I could smell desire in the air.

“Yes.”

The tips of his fingers trailed over my cheek and jaw in a gesture so achingly intimate, I fought to keep standing. Finally he put his mouth on mine, and we kissed. No thrusting tongues and panting breaths. Only a gentle press of lips…and it shocked me that a man who radiated such strength could carry this tenderness inside him.

“Keep true to yourself. Follow your dreams. Only you can make them real.”

And with one last kiss, he walked away and disappeared into the crowd before I found time to take a breath. I thought about going after him but stopped myself. He was doing what I asked. Giving me the space I’d demanded. I

had already told him I wouldn’t fuck him in a club, and he remembered and respected that. Another man might’ve tried to persuade me with drinks or force. Rhoades wasn’t the man I thought.

Felice Stevens has always been a romantic at heart. While life is tough, she believes there is a happy ending for everyone. She started reading traditional historical romances as a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until she picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that her interest in romance novels was renewed.

But somewhere along the way, her reading shifted to stories of men falling in love. Once she picked up her first gay romance, she became so enamored of the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion there was no turning back.

Felice lives in New York City with her husband and two children. Her day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. Although she practices law, she daydreams of a time when she can sit by a beach and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be some angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.

Emotionally demanding and beautiful second chance love story

His Truth CoverHis Truth by Riley Hart

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh lordy this book. I think it’s possibly the most emotionally demanding second chance romance I’ve read. It takes your heart and squeezes it so tight you think you’ll never feel a beat again.

The trauma Roman locked away so he could move on with his life while just a teenager is as heavy as a load of bricks landing on your shoulders. That he managed to move beyond his father and brother’s actions and be a successful businessman is testament to his inner strength.

I fell for Roman so hard, but there wouldn’t have been a Roman to love so much if there hadn’t first been a Leo. Someone that could just be the rock standing strong against the wind, the safe harbour against the tide, the shelter Roman needed to break through the walls of his bubble.

My heart broke for the 16 year-olds, but it rejoiced for their 28 year-old selves when they reconnected and found a way past the poison which had infected their earlier love.

This is a gorgeous narrative, it’s sexy too, emotional and driven with passion and a need for the story to reach its happy ending, and it’s treated with respect. There’s no magic dick cure here, Roman doesn’t admit he’s gay without any cost to his psyche.

But Leo is there to walk beside him and its as gorgeous as the image on the cover.

Loved this new series opener from JM Dabney

Livingston (Trenton Security #1)Livingston by J.M. Dabney

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

You’ve gotta love a book with a good fisting scene in it, I’m fairly sure that’s a book reviewing rule right?

Well, lucky for me, I did love this book, even though I haven’t read anything else from this author. It had moments of drama that perhaps were a little over the top, but it completely worked within the narrative.

More review tomorrow.

And it’s tomorrow now so here’s the rest (as I was falling asleep yesterday).

I thought this book was fab, it’s not an overly complicated story and its done well. There’s lots of other characters in it who have their own books which I’ve not read but there’s enough info given for the reader to know what’s going on.

Liv is a wonderful character, traumatic experiences and visible scarring have left him deeply isolated with only his friends providing any human interaction.
Fielding is naive and too young and inexperienced for Liv but he wants him just the same and the beautiful actor is more than willing to surrender and submit to his Daddy.

I will say this won’t be for everyone, it’s quite heavy on the Daddy/boy kink and some light BDSM but it absolutely fits the dynamic of the two men.
I hope Little gets his HEA and I want to know more about Horace & Freddie and why they live out in the woods!
