My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’m going to state from the off that I think this is the best shifter story Annabelle’s written and, as I’ve pretty much five-starred all her shifter novels, that’s saying something.
However, I will say this book falls more on the paranormal than the romance – at this point in the series – although I have no doubt the passion which connects between Cole and Logan will end up being just as steamy and emotionally satisfying as everything from this writer.
The malevolent tensions overhanging the plot of this book are felt from the off, this is not a fluffy shifter world. This is a UK where the once persecuted became the perpetrators of even greater injustices and where those with the wolf compatability gene are forced to join a pack and take the bite.
I loved everything, absolutely everything, about this book, including some surprising geographical stops on the way which reminded me of a holiday I once took in the particular part of England and anything like that always gives me an even deeper connection to a book.
There is such great world-building, and so different to Annabelle’s Regents Park Series. This London and these shifters are nothing like Alpha Cam Harly’s pack. There is a sense of foreboding the minute the McKillan name is mentioned.
A bit road trip, a bit thriller, a bit romance, a bit suspense, all the elements combine perfectly into a plot which drives the reader through the dangerous world we’re being introduced to and some of the people trying to make things just a little bit better.
Book two can’t come soon enough for me!
