This book is a brilliant addition to the Fog City series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is a brilliant addition to the Fog City series.

Its star pair also take a place on the Shelf of Hotness just the same as their respective brothers did in the first three entries.

Queen’s Ransom firmly puts the focus on the women at the heart of the Perri and Madigan families as they dance around the attraction between them.

I was fascinated by the sparks flying between Celia and Helena every time they met and here they finally explode 😁

The romance is a mix of frustrations and feelings, Helena takes a while to get her head in the game, although it’s pretty clear her heart’s already invested.

There’s only a couple of smexy times but they are definitely heated and full of passion.

Their second garage encounter in particular demonstrates perfectly the push and pull between the two women.

They work their way up to a steamy set of orgasms that starts with a heated kiss on a dolly, skirts the top of Whiskey Walker’s vintage car, and ends up with them wrung out in a panting heap in the office.

Helena’s fears about the dangers anyone who gets involved with her family might face were a driving force throughout.

And they came into a full on collision with Cee’s waste of space ex husband Dex.

Anyone who’s read the other books knows how dangerous Helena is, but Cee’s no weakling either.

So when someone shoots up her garage after she and Helena’s first kiss, she’s not willing to just sit back.

I really liked the suspense element of the plot. It worked for me within the narrative, it flowed well, mingling adrenaline rush moments with nerve tingling tension points.

I won’t go into depth, I don’t want to spoil the clever way Layla intertwines the two families together with a shared threat.

And while Chris and Hawes are getting closer to their wedding and are as strong as ever, Brax and Holt are struggling and my heart was breaking at their interactions.

Their book is going to round off the Fog City series and I absolutely cannot wait for that.

We also get a few Easter Egg name drops for Layla’s other San Francisco set romantic suspense series’ and it made me smile every time.

I don’t think it’s easy to throw a different pairing romance into an established MM series but it absolutely works here imho.

Allie delivers an epic conclusion to this fabulous paranormal history series

55475835._SY475_Wonderstruck by Allie Therin

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A stunning conclusion to what has been an outstanding paranormal historical romance series.

The pacing in this book is exceptional, taking the reader as it does on a tension-edged journey not only in America, but across the Atlantic to London and Paris.

The enemies are ever more threatening, and the powers they wield put all of our band of happy adventurers at risk.

Arthur and Rory are still dealing with the disparity of their social classes as well as the laws of the day, while the Baron’s henchmen seem to be surrounding the paranormals’ search to destroy the mind control relic.

As with the previous two books, there is zero on page steam outside of a couple of kisses and fade to black inferences of what they’re doing behind closed doors.

And it still disappoints me a little, especially given the additional magical connection which is now binding the two men together.

We are again told of their passion and willingness to put their lives at risk for the other, and we get to see them do that when it comes to physical danger, but we don’t see it when it applies to their physical intimacy and, for me, it’s a shame.

This concluding narrative still pulls together all the loose ends with skill, but I think it could have been even more powerfully emotional if we’d seen what they have to lose physically expressed on page.

But I have zero qualms about the plotting, it’s a brilliant and totally satisfying build up to the final battle.

The threats feel absolutely real, I wasn’t at all sure how they were going to pull themselves out of the predicament they end up in.

And I would never have guessed at the solution, although it is sneakily hinted at in the plotting earlier when I look back with hindsight, very cleverly executed.

A bit of a bittersweet experience, as I say goodbye to these wonderful characters and the world Allie has created, but also a firm knowledge that I look forward very much to seeing what comes next!

Word-slinger. Purveyor of truth. Jaded heart.

By day, Felix Franklin is an investigative journalist. By night, he produces Sinister in Savannah, an investigative podcast, with his two best friends. Felix’s life revolves around three principles: fortune favors the bold, honesty is everything, and love is for schmucks.

The podcast is back to investigate allegations that a local businessman is dabbling in money laundering. On the surface, everything about Cameron Spencer, aka The Auto King, appears to be perfect. The trio of trouble quickly learns all that glitters is not gold. Seeking the truth will challenge Felix’s convictions and put his life in grave danger. The biggest threat to his well-being isn’t an unknown villain; it’s the reappearance of his first and only love.

Jude Arrow had it all: great looks, charming personality, and a lucrative career as Atlanta’s hottest news anchor. So, why had he recently relocated to Savannah? When the two reporters are forced to work together, Felix will get a chance to ask him. The answer will stun Felix until he remembers not to believe anything that comes out of the heartbreaker’s pretty mouth.

Love and hate are two sides of the same coin and just as conflicting as the battle of wills that ensues. Will the chip on Felix’s shoulder save him from trusting Mr. Wrong or ruin his chances with Mr. Perfect?

Excerpt

Felix relaxed his grip and released Jude’s lapels. He took a step back, attempting to break the embrace, but Jude only tightened his fingers.

“Any harder and you’ll leave marks,” Felix warned in a teasing tone that contradicted the emotions riding him hard. There’s that damn phrase again.

Jude rubbed his nose along the sensitive flesh beneath Felix’s ear. “Good.”

Felix shivered and Jude chuckled.

“Less than four minutes,” Felix said.

Jude released Felix’s hips and headed for the same door Rocky had exited through. Felix waited a heartbeat before turning and following Jude. The corridor on the other side of the door was illuminated by cobalt blue diamond sconces on the wall and tape lighting in the same hue running along the edges of the floor. The club music piped through the hidden speakers was heavy on the bass. Excitement crackled and popped along his spine as Felix’s heart tried to match the tempo. They’d only made it a few feet before Jude stopped suddenly and shoved Felix against the wall.

“Why are you really here?” Jude asked.

Felix raised his chin and stared defiantly into Jude’s eyes. “The same reason you are.”

“Yeah?” Jude asked, pushing his knee between Felix’s legs until Jude’s thick thigh rested just under Felix’s taut balls. “You’re looking to fuck?”

“Someone who isn’t you,” Felix countered.
