There’s a lot of heart in this opposites attract story

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wanted to fall in love with this book because the premise of it intrigued me and, in the main, I got my wish.

Both Grey and Logan are compelling characters, each with unique quirks that made them interesting to read about and get invested in.

I very much liked the found family at the heart of Logan’s garage, all of who will be getting their own stories in a spin-off series coming next year.

Grey’s son Ben and his ex-wife and her new husband were also positive figures, no evil exes here, although Logan’s former partner Izzy, mother of his cute as a button daughter Cassidy, came close on occasion.

Where I’ve dropped a star is in the wider story about the investigation that Grey is looking into for his documentary.

It just felt a little flat for me but it may be that elements of it will continue in the spin-off, but I’m not sure how, given Nick (of book five) comes to the rescue at the end here.

I also didn’t buy fully into the speed of Grey and Logan’s falling in love. Did I believe they were attracted to each other and had the potential to fall, absolutely, I think I just wanted a bit more on page conversation after they’d admitted it could be more.

The ‘I love yous’ just felt a bit too fast given how little time they’d actually spent together.

Still, both of those are small concerns and neither takes away from the overall enjoyment of seeing two dads who couldn’t be more different, find the strength to make themselves vulnerable.

It was also cool to get a guest appearance from everyone’s favourite firefighter Eric, and get a name check of his best mate, our favourite cop Leo!
