Felice delivers a perfect “revenge into love” romance
Revenge is Sweet by Felice Stevens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
There’s not much more I love than a reformed rake and here Felice delivers up a modern contemporary version which is an absolute delight.
Lyon and Miles have a somewhat rocky and not at all conventional start to their romance, but they’ve also known each other all their lives too.
Lyon has spent his life closing himself off to the possibility of hurt of disappointment because his parents have done a number on him with their selfish and irresponsible behaviour.
Miles has grown up in the shadow of his older brother Dan, Lyon’s best friend, who constantly reminds him of a horrible situation he ended up in while at college.
When Dan runs off with Lyon’s fiancée, their paths intersect once more and a plan is set in motion to gain revenge and give Dan a taste of his own reprehensible behaviour.
Of course, not all goes according to plan as Miles finds out there’s much more to Lyon than what he shows to the world and Lyon realises he likes the person he is when he’s with Miles.
This is a lively and well-paced narrative that also had some lovely Easter Eggs that I hadn’t been expecting which I won’t spoil but really appreciated how they connected this story to Felice’s New York universe.
The romance itself is a perfect blend between the spice and the heart-filled awakening of two people who bring out the best in each other.
Uncle Harry, Lyon’s brother Scott, Miles’ bookshop manager Gordon, and Lyon’s Bar Manager Victor (who has his own bonus short story to download at the end!) are all wonderful side characters.
Dan and Lindsey, Lyon’s ex, can both fall off the Brooklyn Bridge for me. Felice writes them both well without turning them into cartoon baddies but I wanted them to suffer horrible things!
Felice is a kinder person than me though and they do get to deal with the consequences of their actions even if it doesn’t involve falling off the bridge!
I’d love more in this new location from Felice, this book was thoroughly enjoyable.
