The heat is definitely on with this scorching romance

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ella Frank writes totally engaging stories which draw the reader in and this book is no exception.

This story is told in dual POV and ends not quite on a cliffhanger but at a point in the relationship between Ryan and Jameson where decisions have been made that have led to some soul-searching and a fair bit of upset.

Not that it’s deliberate angst, it’s perfectly in keeping with the narrative and I had the utmost sympathy for Jameson at the situation he finds himself in. Thankfully, there’s no dramady here, he and Ryan don’t immediately miscommunicate or have a big tantrum.

There’s some wonderful dialogue and then the book ends on a hopeful note which I am sure will be picked up immediately in book two.

Up until this point, the slowly unfolding friendship and attraction between the two men had been steadily growing more and more solid, with some really sweet moments and some incredibly hot ones.

I loved the whole fated narrative that Ella was spinning where the universe seems to be conspiring to put these two complete opposites in each other’s orbit out of the blue.

This is definitely going to the top of my list of favourite Ella couples, there’s something absolutely delicious about the contrast between Ryan’s suited competence and Jameson’s rough around the edges firefighter.

As with most of her recent works, it’s also a two-parter (in a four part series, books three and four are about Olsen, the firefighter who was Kieran Bailey’s roommate and best friend).

I do get that there’re marketing reasons for splitting up books, a lot of readers don’t like overly long text – personally I love a chunky read that I can get deeply into – and this one is a good length at almost 270 pages. If the second book is as long, that’s going to hit around the 500 page mark which I know people do pass up.

But, for me, I’d much rather have both together so I can indulge in the wonderful romance being played out on the page 😁
