Malcolm gets a redemption arc and I’m all for it
Hardwood by Sam Burns & W.M. Fawkes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Right, well, I didn’t think that I would ever feel sorry for Malcolm but there you go!
Sam and Fawkes managed to completely 180 my opinion of the incubus who’d been a thoroughly unpleasant chap in both of his half-brothers’ books with this tale of danger and daring do.
Kostas, now him I loved from the start. He’s a siren who’s turned his back on the more vicious side of his kind’s nature and is now working behind the bar of a dodgy nightclub when he comes across Malcolm.
Their brief encounter isn’t the best but when Kostas sees Malcolm in trouble a few hours later, his good nature means he can’t just let it go. What occurs then is one of those insta-love/blindsided by the fated mate-y narratives that had me smiling.
I’ve only not given it 5* because, like Declan’s story, it all seemed to end rather abruptly – although very happily!
