Grab a cup of tea and settle in for this fab enemies to lovers redemption romance
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely loved this festive offering from VL.
There’s nothing I like better than a good redemption story, and it was delivered with enough bite to stop it becoming overly sweet or unrealistically easy.
Gideon had made Evan’s life unpleasant as they grew up together, then one day he was just gone.
Now, almost two decades later, Evan is Mayor of his small town and his nemesis is back to cast a stern eye in his weekly editorials as Editor-in-Chief.
What I liked most about this was how Evan’s memories of Gideon’s behaviour weren’t changed or lessened. He had been awful to him, but as more is revealed, it becomes ever more clear that it was the age old “attention grab” from someone struggling with a difficult life.
There’s one reveal which comes fairly early on which I would have liked to see become more of a thing but it’s possible that may happen in the short which is coming out in VL’s newsletter.
It’s clear from the off that Gideon’s feelings are still there, and at one point I was very much wanting to give him a big hug as he exposed his vulnerability.
There’s chemistry and sexual attraction galore and I loved the heady atmosphere of their intimacy once Evan admitted he was very much attracted to Gideon.
With its small town vibe, this series is a lovely interlude to while away a couple of hours with a cup of tea and a brownie 😁
It made my heart happy.
