Unexpected | Liza Gaines
A Public Relations Novel #2
Release Date: August 11, 2020
Just as Mac and I have found a sort of routine in our unorthodox relationship, our world is rocked with shocking news—I’m pregnant. Not exactly ideal timing, given how busy the firm is on this high-stakes Presidential campaign, not to mention Mac’s tenuous new connection with our son.
As we deal with all these complications, I’m learning how to compromise with Mac so he can be a bigger part of our children’s lives—and despite my efforts, I’m falling in love with him. But when I discover Mac’s been keeping huge secrets of his own, I begin to realize how precarious our relationship really is…and now I have to protect my heart at all cost.
One blurry photo of a blue plus sign is all it takes to throw my life in turmoil. I’m already struggling with doubt about fatherhood, consumed with fears that I’ll turn out just like my old man. I’m determined not to let my newfound family down, though.
But when campaign scandals start hitting too close to home, I’m suddenly faced with important decisions about my future with my family, my career, and Gwen.
UNEXPECTED is a contemporary romance that follows on from UNDISCLOSED. Amidst the strenuous challenges of a competitive political campaign and Mac’s never-ending family drama, Mac and Gwen’s world is once again upended by the surprise of an unplanned pregnancy…
“Fucking hell, Gwen, I…” His deep, rumbly voice is broken by his labored breathing, but even so, it’s so rough with emotion it’s palpable. A real, tactile thing I can feel as surely as I can his touch, and my oversensitive skin blooms with goosebumps.
“What?” I ask, tugging on the hairs at his nape. Whatever he’d been about to say, I want to hear it.
Mac shakes his head, pressing his face into my hair, his lips tickling my ear. “Just don’t ever run away again, Gwen. Please don’t run.”
His vulnerability takes me by surprise, my already racing heart slipping into overdrive. Torn between offering him reassurance and begging for forgiveness for the way I obviously hurt him, I don’t know what to say. The words and thoughts are all jumbled together, twisted up with the volatile sensations of my looming orgasm, and I can’t sort through them to assemble a coherent thought. So instead I say his name and hope that in that one word, he can hear all the things I want to say and can’t.
