A good solid opener to this urban fantasy paranormal polyamorous romance
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is a good opener to an intriguing urban fantasy world where Assassin’s Guilds take on commissions to kill people and magic is something to be feared and mistreated.
The idea of a Blood Oath was something I thought the author did very well though. The thought that, if Ryder didn’t fulfil the contract he’d been magicked into taking, he’d be the one to die instead proved to be a great tension builder throughout.
But, while I liked the premise behind this narrative, It did feel like it was dragged out a little bit with a little too much repetition as the team was all being gathered together to go after the contract.
However, once the action adventure element of the plot picked up, things improved massively and I liked the various different attempts to take out the target, which were clear to visualise and well written.
For an urban fantasy/paranormal, the romance elements are given a decent amount of page time as well and I liked the slow build up to the polyamory aspect of this series, with the separate introductions of Felix’s two lovers.
Overall a good solid beginning and I am definitely interested in reading the rest of the series.
