Briar Prescott’s debut novel is an utter joy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Briar Prescott’s debut novel is an utter joy, simply delightful and with a real warmth to it.
On the face of it, it’s a new adult college romance between a jock and a nerd, but there’s so much more depth.
Andy was adorable, but never made to be foolish or worthy of pity. He knows he’s awkward, but he’s also not wallowing in the mire.
He’s forthright, highly intelligent and determined to make changes.
Law on the other hand, bucks nearly all the jock stereotyping. He’s struggling with family expectations, still coming to terms with the end of his ice hockey career and desperately trying to do the right thing to justify his coach’s support in giving him a position on the staff.
I loved how Briar slowly worked these two from mutually beneficial acquaintances and into a solid friendship without any unnecessary angst or dramedy.
The conclusion to the major plot line also surprised me in a great way and I loved the Epilogue.
My whole experience with this book was utterly charming.
