Emotionally charged romance is a gem

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book when it first started as it was a young adult romance with a very nostalgic feel even though it was only set in 2008.

There’s definitely Dirty Dancing vibes, deliberately referenced to evoke that feeling of a long summer holiday at a self-contained resort. There’re two perfectly loveable characters exploring the highs and lows of first love and coming out.

It’s heady with the possibilities of a lifetime. But I wasn’t really feeling it until a good third of the way in when all I’d a sudden I was as passionately involved as Dane and Khalid were.

The latter part of the narrative is where Vicki’s talent is truly on display though as this story takes an unusual turn which I won’t spoiler.

Suffice it to say, there wasn’t anyone cheering on the romance louder than me as I read about their lives.

I think this could be my favourite of Vicki’s non-sporting romances, it’s a little gem wrapped up in something just a bit different.

Also stupidly hot and emotionally charged.
