My rating: 4 of 5 stars
And Xander makes it three from three in this utterly delightful series centred around one of my favourite things – food!
Here’s where the prickly and quite often arsey sous chef finally gets the one person who will truly love him, faults and all.
We’ve seen Xander crushing on Miles, but a Xander truly in love is a joy. He’s excitable, fearful and so vulnerable that my heart almost broke right alongside his during the book more dramatic moments.
Damon took a bit more time. I initially felt so much love for him after all he’d been through, but he did get a little bit maudlin and self-martyred on occasion.
Thankfully, while pushing the plot angst almost to the last minute, Beth never over-eggs the pudding. The dramatic elements slot perfectly into place to lead the reader’s journey through to its ultimate ending.
I loved the Epilogue big time, it made me smile. Now, please Beth, are we finally getting Kian and the Bastard next?!
