Brilliantly British sweet and sexy romance from Jay Northcote

Nothing Serious
by Jay Northcote

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The new version isn’t on Goodreads yet but it has a gorgeous new cover from Garrett Leigh and looks fabulous.

Anyways, as I need this review for the Blog Review Tour, here’s my re-review of the latest version (not that there’s any changes other than the cover).

This was Jay’s first novel but you’d never know that from the consummate skill in which he weaves this tale of a guy who comes out later in his life after splitting up with his girlfriend of nine years.

There’s very little angst, just a slow realisation that the friends with benefits gig that Mark has going on with Jamie, the guy he met when he came along to help out his brother’s removal firm taking all of Mark’s stuff to his new place, might just be a bit more serious.

The two of them are ridiculously cute together, both scared of saying something about their feelings changing because it was only supposed to be a nothing serious relationship as Mark began to get some experience as an out gay man.

It’s novella length but there’s still quite a lot of world building and plotting which goes into it and it’s just a really sweet read. The perfect beach or poolside romance.
