This is a delightful historical Christmas romance featuring a bookshop in the heart of London and evoking a real sense of England shortly after the Napoleonic Wars.
Both Christy and Lawrence are wonderfully drawn characters, fitting perfectly into the roles assigned them as clerk and bookshop owner respectively.
The stews of London’s less pleasant areas are brought to life as Christy struggles to support his mother, now stuck in a miserable second marriage to a drunken brute.
He finds comforts in the bookshop and its owner, a kind but fairly stoic man but as Christmas approaches, a mistletoe kiss has unforseen consequences, and their lives take an unexpected turn.
I’ve not read Ruby Moone before but this historical was a real treat.
