My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is as cute as the snowman on its cover. It’s the perfect festive treat without being too sweet and it fixes on one of my favourite tropes done well – the fake boyfriend.
I loved Derek, he was such a study in contrasts, and his bumbling combined with his arrogance together added up into a vulnerable guy just looking for love.
He found it quite by accident with Luke, our other MC. Invalidated out from the fire service and with a weight of memories on his shoulders, Luke is perfect at pulling Derek out of his shell and into dealing with the world on his own terms.
The New York setting is subtle, only really making itself known in Luke’s bar, which sits between a fire station and a precinct and honours those who gave their all on 9/11.
There’s a lovely feel good factor to this and I loved it. The epilogue is sweet and just provides the Wensleydale cheese to my slice of fruit cake (I’m a Yorkshire girl and I don’t like glacier cherries so sue me 😉 )
